Chapter 23: Cultivating in solitude

Peter spent several days solely focusing on cultivating and comprehending and perfecting the '★ Sense Boost' Spell. In the span of a couple of days he had managed to learn it completely and kept it on as a passive boost. Since it was a 1-star spell, the mana consumption was so minuscule that his cultivation necklace's passive absorption of mana was able to keep the spell active at all times.

His senses doubled in range with this spell active, helping him in battle exponentially. Whilst Noah spent his time going over the memories of Peter trying to learn Braille as soon as possible so that he could start learning the new martial art, Peter also used his time wisely. Both brothers were doing their best to grow in strength as fast as possible.

Even though Peter had been cultivating non-stop he wasn't seeing the same rapid progress he saw with the 2nd stage. He then recalled how each time he would break into the next stage, it would take longer to get to the next; what Peter didn't know was that the Sage Pool he was meditating in was boosting his already rapid cultivation speed, so in one year he would be able to break through several stages.

After a couple more days, when he felt like he had solidified his entry into the 3rd stage of the Novice Rank completely; he decided he would focus on perfecting the Ethereal Arts martial art along with the other spells in his arsenal that Noah knew but he didn't.

"ROOOARRR!" A powerful Tier 1 Lion Beast bellowed, before leaping towards Peter.

'Darkness Entrapment.'

Peter managed to comprehend and execute the spell his brother used often, causing the large 2-meter tall beast to freeze. He then executed the Ethereal Arts's 3rd form, causing a powerful slash to tear down the beast in two.

Peter had started on the Novice difficulty and was working his way up. Each difficulty level had 50 different trials and currently he was on the 13th. Although the beasts were strong and fast, Peter's use of spells covered for his lack in cultivation strength.

His darkness spells were like cheats for the first 20 Levels. After that, the shadow figures from the 9th and 10th trial that Noah completed before began to form.

Peter zigzagged around, using the shadow steps spell efficiently, changing direction and momentum midair before slicing down several dark figures using the 2nd form of the Ethereal Arts martial art.

He had improved by leaps and bounds in the past week and it was all thanks to the expert facilities that the Abyssal Tyrant had left behind. Not only was Peter able to gain experience with fighting magical beasts, but he was also able to fight with humanoid replicas. Using his incredible comprehension speed and perfect memory of the feeling of the way Noah used his body, Peter was able to replicate his brother's swift and confident moves.

It was only when he reached the 23rd trial, he had given up. The numbers of shadow soldiers were too many for Peter, even with his enhanced senses and reflexes, he was unable to go unscathed.

Peter sighed, leaving the combat hall and heading to the library. He took out the 'Shadow teleportation' spell book and began moving his fingers through the dotted lines.

It was simple in concept but was also difficult at the same time. It needed basic knowledge of magic circles, which Peter knew nothing about.

To learn this spell he had to first learn about magic circles.

Luckily, The Abyssal Tyrant's library had all sorts of books, most were to do with his inscription methods, which Peter wasn't planning on learning just yet but others included basic knowledge of beasts, magic circles, magic weapons etc. His library was filled with hundreds of books, which had all been translated to Braille by Ella.

Peter knew learning The Abyssal Tyrant's inscription methods would boost his power by a hundred fold, as he was even able to take down a person who had a whole army of undead. When he recalled his meeting with the Abyssal Tyrant's soul fragment, he remembered how he told him that he managed to kill one of the brothers.

The 5 star spell that was in Peter's possession must have belonged to that powerful individual. To take down someone as powerful as that with an army of undead, it only made Peter more and more interested in how powerful an inscription master was.

Peter knew if he learned the 5 star spell along with the powerful inscription methods the Abyssal Tyrant used he would definitely be able to get strong enough to adhere to his patriarch's will.

As of this moment Peter wanted to increase his battle strength first before studying and focusing on any other tasks like inscription magic runes. As for his cultivation, he mapped out a smart and achievable goal: By the end of the year he would be a Stage 5 Novice Rank Cultivator.

Peter spent several days in the library only coming out to stretch and bathe himself in the sage pool once every few hours to refresh his brain. He had been studying diligently on how to form magic circles and it seemed that he was making some good progress.

Magic circles were as their names suggested: simply circles drawn with ancient symbols inscribed within them. Once someone knew how to draw the magic circle with the purpose it's designed for, all they had to do was bind that circle to an incantation, which could be said mentally to activate it.

Spells that required magic circles were either due to the requirement for high mana consumption of the spell or due to the spell's complexity. In Peter's case, it was both.

The 'shadow teleportation' spell required Peter to place a magic circle on the object's shadow, to which he could teleport. The only disadvantage to this spell was that any being more powerful than Peter could erase the circle, destroying that teleportation spot.

As of this moment, he had encountered another issue. He didn't know how to write the ancient symbols. If he had eyes, it would have been easy to copy the diagrams; in the end, he decided Ella would guide him and show him how each symbol felt whilst Ella guided his hand in drawing the symbols.

2 weeks passed and Peter was finally able to draw his first magic circle. He had learned the basic ancient symbols through practice and felt proud as he was almost done comprehending the shadow teleportation spell.

He bound the magic circle to the incantation 'Teleport' and placed a circle in each facility of the dungeon. One in the combat facility, another in the library, and so on.

Since Peter was blind, he had no image of which facility to teleport to so he had to add another word to his incantations.

'Teleport: Combat Hall.'

A dense dark smoke wrapped his body from under his feet until he was shrouded in the dark smoke. He had disappeared from the library with a puff and appeared in the combat hall right above where he had placed the magic circle.

Peter couldn't help but rejoice at his success in comprehending his 3rd spell! Not only was it the hardest to learn due to the constant difficulties but he had also managed to overcome the limitations his blindness brought.

Things were going well but this was only the start…
