Chapter 2: Porter

"URAGH!" A horribly disfigured undead, with no lower jaw, grayish blue skin, glossed colorless eyes, and green slime oozing from its gaping maw, roared at Connor as it lunged at him.

Connor stared blankly at the creature, not budging even when it was mere inches from him. An arrow flew from the right and pierced the undead, killing it, and saving Connor.

"Tch." Connor clicked. He was a thin lanky 18 year old with medium long light purple hair. His eyes were a cool ice blue and his features were soft yet sharp. He stood a solid 5 foot ten inches at a measly hundred and forty-five pounds.

"Aw man... I missed! I hit the undead instead." Wilson, a well built Hunter Class Seeker, stated as he approached from a pile of debris that he used as cover.

"Hahaha! Near miss!" Carl, a giant of a Guardian, laughed.

"Alright, enough you two! You know damn well... that that would have been a waste of a perfectly good arrow." Minerva stated with a sneer. She was a sexy Mage Class Seeker with curves in all the right places but had the personality of a S Rank bitch.

Connor became an awakened at 14, with no class or skills and a Magic Value of 1. He was the weakest in history to ever awaken. Compared to a normal human, he was only slightly better.

4 years ago after he awakened, he was avoided like a plague. No one wanted him on their teams and he was treated as a ghost. Until Minerva and her small team approached him and asked if he wanted to be their Porter.

Connor, at the time, was naive and ecstatic. He readily agreed, thinking that they were the nicest people in the world, and signed a 4 year contract. But, that quickly became a mistake. Over the course of 4 years, he had been beaten, tormented, tortured, used as live bait, a sacrifice, a distraction, and their chore boy.

His body was covered in bruises, cuts, scars, and his bones were practically on the verge of becoming permanently disabled. With no family or friends to turn to, Connor lived his miserable life. But, his emotions had long been shot, his lifeless eyes spoke of no compassion or sorrow. Only a dull lifelessness.

The only parts of his body relatively untouched, was his face and groin. It was his only redeeming features, as Minerva constantly reminded him.

The group was currently outside of District City 13, Connors birthplace. The team preferred living in District City 9, but their task brought them here, via Portal.

"Uhg! How much longer do we have to wait in this poor people zone?" Carl whined.

"Two more days." Minerva replied swiftly and lowly, shooting glances at Connor. In two days would be the time limit end of the teams current 'Patrol Duty' contract with The Asociation. Every team not with a guild has to Patrol outside of Zone B's District Cities, as very few Guilds are located in Zone B.

In two days, Connors contract with Minerva and her despicable team also coincidentally ends. As per the contracts statements, at the end of Connors 4 years, he would be given a lump sum of all earnings made during his contract. Being 14 at the time, his Magia Coins were placed in an account until the end of his service.

Of course, everything he was promised so far, had been neglected. Instead of being provided food and water, he had to find his own food and water. Which wasn't difficult for water, but food was a pain to scrounge. He also was never offered shelter, he made his own away from the others. He was not protected, he was instead used for dangerous purposes.

"Two days..." Connor muttered lightly. He was carrying most of the groups equipment on his back in a large canvas bag, so he constantly shuffled the weight to sit more comfortably.

That night was the same as every other night. Connor was beaten ruthlessly by Carl and Wilson, used as target practice for Wilson, then sent to Minerva to... pleasure her. Which really just involved her beating him with magic whips and curses cast upon his body. She loved watching the effects her magic had on humans, which was illegal, but Connor was barely even recognized by humanity's standards.

If anyone knew what was going on, they probably had long since turned a blind eye. Of course, after 4 years of this torture, Connor had long since gotten used to it. He rarely cried out genuinely in pain, as his nerves had long been fried beyond repair.

The group hated this and put in far more effort to relieve their pent up aggressions. Minerva resorted to her most extreme curses that she could use, dispelling them before the moment of death. Still, the only emotion that emitted from Connors eyes was a deep, cold hatred.

When they finally gave up and trying to get a cry out of him, they sent him far away into the wilds, just out of eye and earshot. Connor would sit up in a tree, and stare out into the distant Wastelands. Picturing life before 'Phenomenon 8'.

Two days later, the group entered a low D rank gate. It was the last one that needed to be cleared outside 13. The group proceeded quickly to get to the boss room and clear the gate.

"You know what to do." Minerva snapped her fingers at Connor. Connor dropped the giant bag of supplies at the doors of the boss room and opened said doors, like an obedient slave would for his masters.

Though, this time would be different. There was a sudden push from behind and Connor fell into the room. He quickly rollled and lifted his head up to look at the door. Three evil smiles were plastered to the trios faces.

"What are you doing?" Connor shouted.

"Your contract is up, and so is your usefulness. Did you really think we'd let you go after four years? With the amount of Magia Coins you've earned? I had put a little fail safe in place when writing that contract, one you failed to notice. 'In the event of death, all earned Magia will go to the surviving members of the team.' Its basically life insurance." Minerva laughed maliciously.

"Don't worry, we'll make sure to spend it well! Hahaha!" Wilson laughed as they shut the door, permanently entombing Connor in the Boss Room.
