Chapter 3: Chapter 3 - Suffering.(2)

[The forest outside of Floating Cloud City.]

In the depths of the Black Forest, an old woman could be seen frantically running through it with remarkable speed, for her age.

She wasn't a hidden expert cultivator or anything of the sort. She was just running for her life from the men behind her.

Men sent by Xiao Yunhai to silence her before she could mention anything about his 'child. There was nothing to fear if she died.

After all, the dead tell no tales.

"Please, I won't say anything! The patriarch has known me for years! He knows that I'm loyal!"

The woman's pleas fell on deaf ears as the men didn't care about anything she said. Who in their right mind would betray one of the strongest men in the city over an old woman?

Hearing no response from the men, the old woman knew that her fate was sealed.

She just continued running through the forest with her arms around the baby and her eyes closed, hoping that the heavens would send someone to save her.

Unfortunately, her survival was not fated.

WHOOSH!

The woman was so afraid that the sounds of the bushes slightly shifting next to her didn't catch her attention.

Just as she was about to pass by a cluster of trees, a pack of iron back wolves emerged and surrounded her.

Before the event could even register in her brain, two of them clamped down on her legs, stopping her movement.

"Ahhhh! Someone help!!!"

She screamed in terror as she looked toward the men behind her, hoping that they would have it in their hearts to at least save her from being killed by beasts.

To her horror, she saw the three men standing leisurely on the three branches looking at her as if this was a normal occurrence.

Anger and unwillingness swelled up in her heart. How could the family she served for over twenty years treat her like this?

Just as she was about to curse the men, three wolves ran at her simultaneously. Two of them clamped down on her arms, causing the baby to fall, while the other one clamped down on her neck and dragged her to the ground like a piece of meat.

Her screams seemed to only rile them up as they ferociously dragged her into the dark depths of the forest through the clump of trees. One wolf even bit the cloth the baby was wrapped in and dragged it along with them as if he was just some type of dessert.

It was a horrific sight to witness.

The three men scoffed as they saw this.

"We didn't even have to dirty our hands. As the patriarch said, chase her long enough and she'll run to her own death."

The man who said this chuckled after he replayed the scene in his head.

"Heh, the patriarch is going to love this. Come on, let's go."

The rest of the men followed behind him as they quickly left the forest. After all, even though those iron back wolves seemed powerful, they weren't even close to the power of the terrifying beasts this forest held.

As the pack of beasts dragged their prey back to their lair, something strange occurred.

The wolf who had grabbed the baby suddenly started exponentially growing in size as its fur turned from grey to white in seconds. It went from around 7 feet to 13 feet in the time it took the rest of the wolves to notice this change.

Its cultivation even rose across an entire big realm, from the 5th level of the elementary profound realm to the 5th level of the nascent profound realm.

"Awooooooo!!"

The rest of the wolves, including the ones that were holding the old woman all bent down in reverence toward the newly transformed wolf.

Now that the woman had a moment of freedom, she braved the pain and opened her eyes to see why the wolves were in such an uproar.

Maybe she had already arrived at their lair and they were happy about her being their dinner? If she could, she would laugh at her own pitiful situation. After all, she had already resigned herself to death.

When she opened her eyes and saw the newly transformed wolf holding the baby, she gasped in shock...and a bit of familiarity struck her as well.

She had seen this happen before somewhere else.

But her mind was so drained from the current events that she couldn't remember who this happened to right away.

It was only after the transformation had been complete and the wolf released the baby out of its jaws staring at it intensely that it struck her.

'Right! This happened to Madam when she was having that baby! She suddenly became a new person and started talking about the baby in an odd manner...almost as if she worshipped him!'

When the old woman reached this conclusion, she started to tremble as her eyes locked on the seemingly lifeless baby on the ground too.

There was no way this could be true. A miracle baby that could grant such benefits? Even the heavens themselves should be jealous.

But...after she saw the white wolf dropping its head in reverence towards the baby, her thoughts had been confirmed. The body of this child was some type of treasure!

As the woman started struggling to get up, one of the wolves immediately lunged at her arms to restrain her.

"Leave her be! She was the one that brought this odd little creature to us!"

A deep, beastly voice came from the large white wolf.

The wolf who was rushing the woman immediately stopped and bent down again as if it was completely dominated by the voice of the white one.

It was a strange sight.

The woman was flabbergasted as she found a nearby tree to lean her battered body on to.

'Oh my...a wolf with this level of intelligence is unprecedented in this forest! All this from interacting with that child...wait! Wasn't I the first one who touched him? Why wasn't I blessed?'

The woman looked down at her body to see if they were any changes, but alas, she still saw her aged, haggard skin.

She laughed self-deprecatingly as she saw this.

'Maybe I'm just too old and the blessing didn't waste its time on me. I've reached the end of my life anyway...80 years of this life giving to everyone around me and this is how I end up, alone, and surrounded by beasts who would love to eat me up at any moment. I should've left that forsaken family when I had the chance....'

She had lost the will to live and spent the rest of her time looking at the actions of the creatures in front of her. Who knew what this wolf would do now that it had gained this amount of intelligence.

"All of you, touch this child and you will be transformed. Be careful when you do."

The white wolf commanded the rest of the wolves to do this and they immediately listened.

This was an order that they couldn't refuse.

Miss Wei watched in awe as every single wolf transformed into the exact form the white one had. If it weren't for their slightly different facial features, one would think they were clones.

While she speculated that the baby was telling cause, seeing it happen in front of her eyes confirmed it once again.

If only I had the chance, she thought.

As she lay there, hoping that the wolves would let her go, a voice suddenly appeared in her head.

A voice filled with curiosity, and even a bit of pity.

"Another human soul huh...from the shape it seems to be a woman. I'm sure you can hear me...so, state your name."
