Chapter 2: Chapter 2

After a weekend of partying, Myles should be exhausted, but he was more confused than tired.

He was certain Rhys had been the one he'd gone to bed with Friday night. When he'd woken up he'd been alone. He'd waited most of the day for a text to explain why he'd been left alone, but nothing came. He'd been invited to a party Saturday night so he'd gone to drown out his woes.

He'd continued thinking about it on Sunday, but Rhys hadn't acknowledged it when they'd met at the gym. In fact, he talked about some girl he'd met at the party. His face had been so exuberant about it. Myles wondered how he could mention someone else when Rhys knew what had happened between them.

He had let it go on Sunday because he didn't want to hurt his best friend's feelings despite his own being trampled. He'd slept all day after the gym so he could actually be functional for class and practice. Once again, he had no messages from Rhys.

He'd gotten up Monday morning ready for the day. He'd had his usual breakfast of oatmeal and berries before he'd packed his lunch and gym bag. He had classes all day followed by a three hour practice. It didn't make sense for him to trek back hom to get everything. He would rather haul everything in one go.

His first class was cancelled, so he sat outside the coffee shop with an iced Americano. He worked on his anatomy project. For his senior project, he was making a model of a torn ligament. He had to make a key so when it was presented the judges could follow along. He already had one model made and he had to make the other three. He had five months to finish them so he was a bit ahead.

Myles got online and ordered the clay he was going to need to finish everything then went back to his sketches. He tried not to think about the weekend so he did his best to work.

His second class was a business class. He'd thought it pertinent to take some business courses in case he went into business for himself. He wanted to make sure he knew what he was getting into and how to handle things. He had to put together a pie chart and other stats for his project. He actually enjoyed this class.

He managed to get through his day without any issues. He'd had a quiet lunch followed by another lecture. His eyes were tired from reading, but he'd forgotten his glasses. He had a headache that he could manage with some aspirin and electrolytes.

Rhys was already at the gym when Myles walked in. He was shooting free throws ahead of practice. It was why his average was the best on the team. He put in the extra effort.

Myles changed and went to practice with him.

They ran drills before the rest of the team came in to start official practice. The gys laughed and chatted as they ran for the first hour. It helped with team building and call outs. Nothing was worse than calling for the ball and your teammate not hearing.

They started talking about parties they went to over the weekend. Myles looked at Rhys as he practiced with someone else. His thoughts went back to that night and his confusion started all over again.

They practiced well into the evening. Myles's legs started aching halfway through, but he managed to make it. When the coach called practice, they collapsed to the floor for a breather and water. Some started bantering about the best place for food while others got up to go shower and study.

Rhys slapped Myles on the shoulder and helped him up. They headed to the locker room for their bags.

"Are you okay?" Rhys asked. They were walking across campus twenty minutes later. "You missed five three-pointers in a row."

"I've just had a lot on my mind," Myles replied. He took a sip of water.

Rhys gave him a sideways glance. "Want to talk about it?"

Taking the opportunity, Myles stopped him. Rhys looked at him, grey eyes wide with questions as he swallowed his water.

"Friday night…" He scratched his face. "Why did you leave?"

His best friend smiled widely. "I told you. Katharine O'Callahan wanted to go somewhere and talk. I left with her around twelve-thirty."

That was about the time he'd been heading upstairs with Rhys. He'd been completely plastered and hanging all over Myles. He knew his best friend well-enough to know what he looked like. They were on the same team so they'd seen each other in various stages of undress. They'd even showered together when they'd been in a hurry.

Rhys watched his face closely. He saw various emotions flash through his eyes quickly. Myles wasn't very talkative, but his face was expressive. He may not say much, but his face told all.

"Myles, what's going on?" he asked.

"I should ask you the same thing," Myles snapped. Rhys frowned. "We spent the night together."

His friend was surprised at his announcement. "When?"

"Friday night, during the party. You were trashed and I carried you up to my room."

Rhys shook his head. "No, I was with Katharine. We walked around the block several times then I took her home." He paused for a moment. "Myles, what exactly did we do?"

Myles's ears turned red. He swallowed hard then licked his lips. Rhys knew what he was going to say, but he wasn't going to say it at the same time. He wanted Myles to admit it. He wanted to hear what he thought they did.

"We fucked," Myles finally admitted.

"How many times did you slap my ass tonight while we played three on three?" Rhys asked. Myles frowned at him, brow furrowed deeply. "If we had done anything, do you think I'd have taken those slaps? Hell, do you think I'd be able to run?"

Myles had slept with plenty of guys to know how the first time went. If it was Rhys, he wouldn't be walking right now. He would be too tender because Myles would have been his first guy. He wasn't sure if they'd flip fuck, but he would gladly let Rhys take him.

But he was certain the person he'd been with was Rhys. he was the same heigh and weight as his friend and had the same face. Anyone would mistake him for Rhys. So who was he?

Myles looked at Rhys closely, closer than he ever had. He was looking for anything that would tell him he wasn't seeing things. But he knew now they weren't the same person. One thing was missing.

"If you keep looking, you may fall," Rhys joked.

Myles stood up straight. "Sorry. I was trying to figure it out. I swore it was you I was sleeping with. He looked exactly like you." He turned away. "But it wasn't you. You don't have a mole by your mouth."

Rhys stopped walking. He lifted a hand to his mouth, right above the left side. A mole by his mouth? Rhys cursed and ran his hand over his head. He knew where the misunderstanding had occurred.

He caught up to Myles and stopped him. He looked him in the eyes for a long time before sighing. He clapped his hand on his shoulder.

"I can explain everything," he said. Myles squinted suspiciously at him. "You have to come to my house for you to understand."

"Why?" Myles asked. "What's at your house?"

"You'll understand when you get there. It's easier than explaining to you now. Besides, it's my turn to make dinner. You'll get free food as well."

"Is it edible?" Rhys scoffed at him. "I have never seen you cook in four years."

"My mom usually cooks but on Mondays and Saturdays she works late. We take turns on Mondays due to school and other schedules. I cook once every five weeks."

Myles didn't have a reason to say no. He was going home to an empty house anyway. If this whole situation could be explained, he'd follow Rhys anywhere. He didn't want to be confused anymore. He wanted to know what was going on.

He followed his friend down the sidewalk, listening to him chatter once again. Rhys did that when he was nervous. Myles wasn't sure who was more nervous; him or Rhys?
