Chapter 2: The Voyage of Despair: Chess Game
(Welcome to chapter 1 [second if one counts the prologue] of NDR2:GD! This is part one of the daily life section; the deadly life section will happen after the first murder.)

That night, Kaito (dressed in mulberry pajamas decorated with tiny gold stars) was checking his E Hand Book when it buzzed.
"Rules have been added. Check them." A notification read.
And Kaito did.

Rule #1: Students can't leave the island.
Rule #2: "Nighttime" is from 10 pm to 7 am. Some areas are off-limits at night, so please exercise caution.
Rule #3: Sleeping anywhere other than your hotel room will be punished accordingly.
Rule #4: With minimal restrictions, you are free to explore this island at your discretion.
Rule #5: Violence against Monokuma is strictly prohibited, as is destruction of surveillance cameras.
Rule #6: Anyone who kills a fellow student and becomes "blackened" will graduate, unless they are discovered.
Rule #7: If the blackened is exposed during a class trial, then only they will be executed.
Rule #8: If the students fail to expose the blackened, then everyone else will be executed.
Rule #9: There will be an investigation for every murder.
Rule #10: There will be a special announcement if two or more students discover a body.
Rule #11: Complete destruction of property is forbidden, but tampering with it and/or damaging it is allowed in the case of fueling creative murders. This rule is not applicable to any of the aforementioned mechanics of Rule #5.
Rule #12: Additional school regulations may be added if necessary.

"That's a lot of rules," said Kaito.
His room was rather plain, and his bedsheets were purple and decorated with sparkly gold stars.
Kaito got into his bed, and fell asleep.

"Ding ding!" said the intercom at 7 am the next morning. "Welcome to your first morning in the Killing School Trip!"
Kaito got up and got dressed. He went down to the restaurant, and Kokichi was sitting at a table.
"Hey, Kaito." said Kokichi.
"Care if we take the time to get to know each other?"

Kaito: Kokichi, I got a gift! Would you like it?
Kokichi: Yes, I would.
[Kaito gives Kokichi the E Hand Book]
Kokichi: This is your E Hand Book?
Kaito: Yes. Usami gave it to me.
Kokichi: But Monokuma gave her a makeover into Monomi! I witnessed it first hand!
Kaito: I should call Usami "Monomi" then! Kokichi, do you like meat?
Kokichi: Yuck! I hate meat and tomatoes! I was only eating pancakes!
Kaito: Hey Kokichi, do you like pancakes?
Kokichi: Not really… But I do love cupcakes! I was just giving pancakes a try!
Kaito: It's always good to try new things, Kokichi!
Kokichi: I understand, and a lousy whore like you should know their place, especially in front of the Ultimate Supreme Leader. How disgusting.
Kaito: Whore? Would you want to make friends Kokichi? If you don't, you will be going in the dumpster!
Kokichi: Ew! Not in the dumpster! I hate dumpsters! They cover you in trash, and a supreme leader should not be covered in disgusting trash!
Kaito: Good Kokichi.

"Kaito, would you like to play Chess?" asked Kokichi. "It's in my room."
"Charmed, I'm sure." said Kaito.
"I'll take that as a yes," said Kokichi.
He snapped his fingers.
A slide appeared.
Kaito slid down the slide.
It was a tube one, and it was, black and white, like a checker board, and after a few seconds, Kaito was dropped into a strange room.
This was Kokichi's Room, which frankly looked like an interdimensional bedroom.
It was black and white checkered on the floor, black and white checkered on the ceiling, black and white checkered on the walls… and it seemed to be upside down. The stairs were upside down. Kokichi's bed was in a slide. It was long and black and ended with a loop at the end that looked so improbable that Kaito had to wonder if Kokichi's Room ran on a pact with the devil because it certainly didn't have anything to do with the laws of physics.
"Let's play dice in here," said Kokichi pressing a button.
One of the walls turned purple and a table and two chairs appeared.
There was a checkerboard on the board.
There were pieces of chess.
There were two garbage cans hanging above the chairs.
Kaito and Kokichi sat down.
"This is Chess. If you fail, the garbage can will tip and trash will fall on you." said Kokichi.
Kaito and Kokichi got to work playing chess. After a few minutes, Kaito won.
"I won!" said Kaito.
Just then, the trash can above Kokichi ripped and all its contents fell down.
Kaito looked away.
When he looked again, he saw Kokichi.
The supreme leader was covered in mud. A squashed tomato was on his scarf. A banana peel and a fish bone hung from his head.
"YUCK!!!" screamed Kokichi.
Kaito had to put his hand over his mouth to stifle his laughter and then left.
"I need a bath…" moaned Kokichi.
