Chapter 2: I am different (2)

Where should I start, the day was okay for the first day. I had no class thanks to my tour. I got to meet a few students and how am in classes 1-B. I also got to meet the grumpy Miss Eloise, she was a tall old woman, with a mean face and a black mole that was close to her long pointy nose, she had coffee brown large eyes the right one was normal the other was plastic (and I don't want to know how she lost that eye). Miss Eloise was my class teacher and my assigned mentor, that's how unlucky I was. She is a member of the disciplinary committee.

Three hours ago, she gave me a full lecture on how she knows that am a troubled kid and that if she caught me breaking a single rule, she would take the honor of expelling me herself and she doesn't care whether my parents are ministers. She was the horrifying part of my entire day.

I was now standing out waiting for the car to pick me up, the orange light of the sun was streaming down and giving an orange pigment to everything surrounding me. It was stunning to look at, this might be my second best moment of the day. I wonder if I will see Sandra once again, if I do I want to know why she talked to me about that.

I checked my watch and it was six-thirty. "I guess I better start walking home," I told myself after noticing that the driver might have thought I had left and missed me. That's the only possible consolation, I could give myself at that point.

I started to walk.

"Ralph." Sandra's voice was so recognizable.

She ran to me and stopped, "I didn't know that the rich kids walk themselves home." she said still with a smile on her face.

"I think they forgot me," I said, "and today looks good for a walk." I waved my hand dramatically to show her the sunset.

She giggled. "Well, this is the view every evening," she said,

We walked for hours till we finally reached her front gate. Beyond the gate was a luxury. All I could get were small glimpses of the mansion.

"Thanks for walking me home," she said while bowing. "Do you mind if we shared contacts," she held out her phone. The one thing I wanted was going to happen right about now.

I reached for my phone in my trouser pockets, and that's when I realized, I didn't have my phone. I must have left it back at the school. My face turned red from anger and pain, pain that I couldn't get her number right now. I checked my wristwatch and there was still time it was just seven.

I smacked my hand onto my forehead. "Dang it! I must a have left my phone back at the school," I said, "Let me run back, maybe the janitor is still there,"

I was about to go when Sandra stopped me by grabbing my arm, "Let me come with you, it is kinda my fault this all happened," she said, " so I can't let you go there by yourself." she sounded serious and a look of determination shone from her blue eyes.

"Okay," I chuckled. Then we both ran back towards the direction we had just come from, in other words back to school.

I was about to use the entrance, but the doors were locked. Sandra touched the glass and the whole thing disappeared like it wasn't there. She hadn't even wasted time by making a magic circle. Magic circles were a few requirements that allowed one to balance his or her magical power.

We slowly sneaked into the school hallway and I cast a spell that made us invisible to all the cameras that were installed across the school walls.

We had just passed the lockers and Sandra suddenly pulled me aside when she heard someone approaching. She had pulled me behind and we both hid under the staircase.

I then heard what sounded like a heel of a shoe tapping fast on the ground, followed by a click of maybe a switch because the lights were automatically turned on after that.

"Eloise," a deep masculine voice called her name,

Yes," she answered,

"What is wrong?" the man asked

"I thought I had heard something," she answered. I and Sandra were under the staircase. Miss Eloise stepped forward into the hallway, lifted her chin, and then started to sniff the air. The same way a dog would.

"Eloise I have no time," the man in the background complained and she stopped sniffing in the air, then walked back to where she had just come from.

Once she went, we both moved from the staircase.

"Hey, you, what are you doing here?" we were immediately spotted by the janitor. He was still in his uniform and was holding a mop in his hands, meaning he was still working.

Sandra's face changed to dead-on serious as she turned to face the janitor. He was standing right behind us on the staircase.

--Sandra was giving him a harsh stare like they knew each other.

She put up her hand, then shot a green blast of energy at the janitor. The blast hit him through the staircase and onto the ground.

I was surprised by what she had just done, "What the hell was that for?"

She didn't answer my question, "This isn't going as I planned," she muttered, "we need to go now."

"Planned? What do you mean by…"

I didn't even have time to complete my sentence when a Minotaur jumped from where the janitor had just fallen and landed on the staircase. It snarled at us with its brown eyes deeply fixed more on Sandra, it's body was both muscular and hairy, with a giant bull head topped with a pair of sharply pointed horns.

I thought these things were myths like they don't even exist anymore.

The monster advanced toward us and Sandra pushed me out of the way. It punched her and sent her flying straight into the lockers. It turned to me and was about to punch me if Sandra didn't blast it with a green ball of energy that made it fall off its feet and crashed to the floor.

I quickly stood up and was about to run, but the bull grabbed onto my jacket and tossed me backward like some piece of paper. I hit back on the hard concrete and felt my back break at the exact time. The pain was excruciating just after the impact.

And that's when I lost my consciousness….

The next time I opened my eyes, I was next to a life support machine. Everything was so blurry in my eyes. A doctor walked in.

"It's okay, you're going to be alright." that was the first thing I heard him say and my eyes closed again.

The second time I woke up, my mom was standing right next to me, her makeup was all ruined from all the tears that had now dried up on her face.

My head hurt, I think from the fall I had back at school. My sister was also around and she had fallen asleep on my chest.

"Mom," I called, "What happened? Why am I in a hospital?"

She smiled after hearing my voice, then faced me. She was still sniffing and I could tell that whatever happened must have been serious because wary was dead written on her face.

She bent a bit and gently caressed my chick with her warm fingers.

"Doctor said it was a car accident, your spine was damaged, but miraculously healed thanks to your abilities," she explained.

"A car accident?" I was in shock because I remember nothing about a car accident, "It wasn't a car accident, mom, we were attacked by our school janitor,"

"We?" She narrowed her eyes in the confusion about what I was trying to explain.

"Yes, me and Sandra…Sandra Drake, she's another student at the school, we were attacked by a Minotaur,"

My mom chuckled after hearing that. She must have thought I was crazy for mentioning a mythological creature.

"You had a heavy head injury, Ralph," she said

"Are you saying I imagined all that?"

"Yes," she answered while running her fingers through my white hair. With her blue eyes fixed on me. It felt like she knew what I was talking about, but mom never lied to me once and I don't think it would be now.

I said nothing more and just stared at the ceiling, wondering if I was hallucinating.

"You were not hallucinating." I heard Sandra's voice once again, but this time, it seemed I was the only one who could hear her speak.

The time around had stopped and it was only me who could move.

She appeared, on the left side of the hospital bed.

I faced her and noticed that she looked different. She was dressed in a short white tunic. With golden bracelets around her wrists. Her entire skin was glowing bright yellow.

"Sandra. What is going on?"

"What is going on is that am dead and you're in grave danger,"

"Dead? What do you mean dead?"

"You didn't survive the attack from the Minotaur, you died Ralph."

"Then how come your the one who's dead."

"Because I placed a curse on you, I made you one of my kind."

I swallowed some saliva, "Your kind?"

"The only I could save your life is if I made you a fey," she answered calmly.

"Fey…as in mystical creature," I laughed. "You're kidding, right, that's impossible fey are not real."

"At the cost of saving your life I died in your place, Ralph," she sounded serious. Was this happening? "I sensed how different you are Ralph, that's why I saved this curse for you." she continued,
