I stood up from the bed as slowly as possible, taking care not to wake my sleeping pregnant wife. She's been through enough. They all have, there was no need to add sleepless nights to it.

I staggered towards the window, it was the fastest way out of the room that was beginning to close in on me.

I tried to slow my heartbeat but it was out of control, so was the loud sound I couldn't get out of my ear.

Not again…please, not again…I shut my eyes tightly briefly, it was the only way I knew to keep her screaming voice to a bare minimum, except this time, it didn't work.

"Daddy!"

Nothing was working.

"Miracle!"

This is not happening! She's safe. She's in her bedroom sleeping and not with the kidnappers!

Elise is dead. The threat is gone.

Everyone I love is safe. Everything is alright now.

But then why can't I breathe?!
