Chapter 7: Dick

It was an intense silence....

Dick Grayson and his supposed team of sidekicks stood there prepared to defend themselves. Though the one who was most conflicted was Superboy.

The reason for this was because the clone had been told several days ago something important by Thor.

"If you can feel pain, then you're not weapon..."

Those words hung with Superboy, ringing in his mind as he gazed upon Thor. His conflicting mindset wouldn't end, even when Thor appears to be about ready to demolished them all.

With Thor or rather Blake, he rolled his eyes at Dick Grayson. Then he looked back to their ginger headed team mate who was gazing up at him even more nervous now.

'M'gann, try to calm him down.' Thought Kid Flash, Wally West.

Dick's eyes widened knowing that was a bad idea. "Wait no!"

It was too late, the moment that M'gann attempted to enter his mind. The Thunderer fully turned to her recognizing an incursion. Unlike the alien telepath that he fought earlier that day, M'gann's telepathy wasn't trained. Meaning one thing....she had just given him a reason to hurt them.

Thor backhanded M'gann away, causing a cry of pain to leave her as she was flung backwards and into the wooden fence surrounding the backyard. Wally sped at Thor and tried to punch him in his face, only for himself to be hurt. He had just forgotten that to punch Thor is like punching steel.

"So you come over to my house, say my name in front of people that I don't know nor trust, ask me to join your team of puppets...THEN TRY TO USE TELEPATHY ON ME!?"

Thor's voice volume grew louder as thunder roared above them. Clouds were beginning to come together as lightning cackled around the Thunderer. He was enraged, and a god who was enraged should not be your opponent. Dick gulped feeling like he knew Thor's answer now. Then heard the Batwing roar overhead, that was when the caped crusader himself came down descending like a bat.

Thor however didn't lose his anger, actually that made him grit his teeth once he saw Batman standing between him and the sidekicks. "Stand down Thor."

"Give me a reason to, otherwise I'm going to find out if you can lift Mjölnir up." Thor threatened, his words coming out in a sort of echo now.

"Stop!" Cried a woman, causing the assembled heroes to seeing Wonder Woman descending towards them now. She was not in her armor but in her civilian clothes. The Amazon gave the Bat a glare before turning her attention back towards Thor. "It's alright, I'm not here to fight you."

Thor's anger slightly subsided, remembering the good times that he had with Diana. Then his brows furrowed before pointing Mjölnir at her now. "What are you doing here?"

His question was met with a slight smile by Diana who slowly approached him. "I came here to check up on you, especially after what happened on the News", she reassured, "Am I not afforded the time to visit my friend?"

Thor then set his eyes on Batman and his little team behind him. "Alright, then that means this was your idea...Dick would have been way more considering than you."

Batman's only reply was his glare, though he understood that such a thing wouldn't work on Blake. Dick and his team stayed where they were, feeling that the tensions were rising. Diana was the only true voice of reason here since she knew Blake better than everyone else present currently. Batman was there because he foresaw that this encounter would go...poorly.

It wouldn't be until the sound of a door opening that got everyone's attention did the tensions begin to go down. When Thor turned around, his eyes widened. The lightning that radiated around his body and Mjölnir dissipating as well as the dark clouds overhead leaving. "...Mom?"

Susan Blake sat in her wheelchair looking on at the assembled group of heroes with a raised brow. Her reddish orange hair tired into a ponytail as she locked eyes with her son. She gave him a warm smile, reassuring him that she was alright. "I was wondering why I heard so much ruckus...I hadn't even gotten dinner started."

Immediately Thor rushed up the stairs to the back porch towards his mother. Showing how much he cared for her with just that action. "Don't worry about it mom, I've got it under control."

Susan gave him a raised brow as she looked up at her son. "What about your friends?"

"They were just leaving."

Thor's words were final, he didn't care about the Justice League right now nor their puppet team. Right now, his mother was more important than them. Diana strode forward slowly, approaching the mother son duo. "You too." Blake added, showing that he didn't even want his old mentor's company either. She frowned then looked at Susan who gave Diana a sad smile.

Of course, the team and Batman took that as their cue to leave. They had just survived an encounter with an enraged Thor. That said, this would sour relations between Thor and the Justice League quite a bit. He kept his mother safe from encountering any other superheroes besides Diana for three years. He had already deduced that the person who possibly told them where he lived was his mentor...

"Come on, let's get inside before it gets cold." Thor offered, then got behind her wheelchair and started to push her inside slowly. He allowed himself to return into his mortal self as he closed the backyard door. He even locked it, as if that would stop anyone from entering. Thor pushed his mother towards the dinner table then moved to the kitchen turning the lights on. "What do you have a taste for, mom?"

Susan watched her son with a small smile, finding his care for her adorable. Even though he was two seconds away from smiting unwelcomed guests. "How about the usual?"

"Alright, Spaghetti it is!"

Susan watched with her hands clasped on her lap as her son began to cook dinner for them. She was in her mid thirties now, and was no longer able to walk due to an accident. Said accident wasn't a normal one, though she would never tell Blake. Such a thing was better kept a secret...for now.

"Donald", Susan called, "Why were you so hostile to you friends?"

That question made Blake pause for a moment, he had been preparing the sauce at that moment. Even so it was a momentary pause before he continued. "Because they didn't call."

Susan frowned, finding that not true, then again she was out of the loop. Considering that she was put to sleep while she had watched her son get beaten up on TV. She wanted to make sure that he was alright, but obviously he was not mentally fine. "There's more to that isn't there?"

"Mom let's just forget about that, dinner will be ready soon." Blake replied, with a bland tone. It was obvious now that what happened a few minutes ago had gotten to him.

"Donald Perseus Blake!"

That caused the teen to turn towards his mother who was giving him a stern glare.

"I may be crippled but that doesn't mean that I'm stupid! Have you any idea how worried I was? I had to watch you get thrown around on TV, you still have dried blood under your nose!"

Blake moved a hand up to his nose and noticed it. He had a nervous expression now, still feeling little even though he had the powers of a god now. That was when he noticed her stern exterior soften as an exhale left her lips. "I don't know what happened to make you act like that...so as your mother I want to know."

Blake frowned, feeling that he was a little guilty since he was pretty much trying to hide that from her. When he turned his attention back to the spaghetti, he let out a long sigh. "I quit being Diana's sidekick."

Susan's brows furrowed and tilted her head to the side. "That's it?"

Blake shook his head then went onto more details as to what happened with Cadmus, Avril, and now before she came to the backyard. "Oh I see..."

Susan mused over this, then gave her son a slight smile. "So you've got a girlfriend now?"

That made Blake pause once again, though this time he had almost spilled the sauce while trying to pour it into the steaming noodles. "No!" He stuttered

"I mean...I don't know mom."

"You got her number?"

"No..."

"Met her guardian?"

"Kind of?"

"Then you're shit out of luck if you think that she'll date you."

"Mom!"

Susan chuckled lightly, finding her tease hilarious and her son's red beat face even more so. Then she took up a more serious tone after she had gotten done with the teasing. "Still, you shouldn't have lost control like that."

"I had it under control mom, I wasn't going to do anything stupid."

"I woke up to the sound of thunder on a day with no weather forecast for rain..."

"Okay I got a little mad so what?"

Susan gave her son a sad smile now, knowing that he was only mad for her safety. "I'm not going to be here all the time, you know?"

Blake turned around with breakneck speed. He gave his mother a serious look as he locked eyes with her. "Don't say anything like that."

Susan raised a brow at her son, before leaning forward in her wheelchair. "Donald, there's gonna be a time when I...might fall asleep and not wake up."

Those words made Blake want to argue with her, try to get her to be quiet about that. Even so, he was more worried about that. His mother had been in his life ever since he was born. There was never a man in his upbringing, if there were then they would always leave when they needed them.

Instead of arguing with her, Blake just simply looked away with a saddened expression. "I don't wanna talk about that mom...can we just have a nice dinner talking about what happened today like normal?"

Susan gave her son a warm smile now, knowing that he was sensitive on that sort of topic. "Of course, you can tell me all about the girl who friend zoned you."

"Mom!"

With this, Blake and his mother prepared for dinner and began to eat. Unbeknownst to them, a certain caped crusader was meeting with someone in Northbridge.

Batman watched as Diana floated down to him. She was giving him a stern glare of the ages. "Bruce..."

How she said his name came out with Venom now. Showing that she was mighty angry.

"I had it under control."

"No you didn't, Donald could end up destroying that entire suburban area if he got even a little angrier."

"He wouldn't have done that."

"What makes you so sure about that?"

"His mother."

Diana's anger subsided a little but still remained there. "Susan should not have been brought into this, you promised to keep your his personal life out of this."

Batman didn't respond to her words now, he simply stared at her.

"I've watched that bot grow up in my three years of mentoring him. Never have I seen him that angry before, and it's rare for him to get that angry. He doesn't want to be part of the League or the Team Bruce, just leave it be..."

Batman didn't say a word still, he simply turned then jumped off the building much to Diana's annoyance. Although, she frowned as she remembered how Blake didn't want her around. She had never had a child before and most likely didn't plan to. The boy was like the son that she never had, and now she may lose her relationship with him as friends. With a deep sigh leaving her, she slowly floated upwards the took off into the sky.

High above the clouds, through the Nine Realms of Yggdrasil, sat a blonde headed man. He had a beard for the ages, long blonde hair, and blue eyes.

This was Allfather Thor, King of the Nine Realms and the original owner of Mjölnir. Through the hammer, he was watching the actions of Donald Blake. He enjoyed the young man's adventures and battles. However, he was aware of the Kree threat and was not sure if the boy could handle it. This was not simply because of this Ronan fellow, but because the alien could call forth the entire might of the Kree Imperium. Knowing this, he wished to send a warrior to aid Donald Blake.

Allfather Thor looked upon all of the Asgardians within the throne room. His eyes landed on his two sons, Magni and Modi. They moved onto his wife, Lady Sif. Then finally his eyes locked onto the one person who would be up to the task. A slight smirk appeared on his lips before leaning forward in his throne.

"Brunhilde, does thy skills need sharpening?"

That questioned caused an armored lon blonde braided haired woman to stand up. She had a smirk of her own appearing on her lips as she popped her neck. "Yes, my king."

That response caused Thor to rise from his throne, and let out a hearty chuckle. "Then thou must prepare for thoust adventure!"

Brunhilde bowed her head then turned to leave. Allfather Thor watched as the commander of the mighty Valkryies marched out of his throne room. He wished to see how far Donald Blake would go before he stumbles upon the truth. Not the truth of the hammer no, that was something that he will realize soon.

The truth of something that he had never wished to know. A truth so secret that even other gods who watched the events of Earth wouldn't know of.

The identity of Donald Blake's father...
