Chapter 31: The war to gamble it all

An apostle of a god is nothing but a mortal given power far greater than what they could handle. For that reason corruption is a common thing among their ranks. When a god starts to loose grip upon a world whatever power they leave behind is left without guidance. This action usually leads to chaos as their servants seek to snatch whatever residual power left behind.

The god of fire is one such being, to willingly leave the playing board is uncommon for a god but due to this strange arcs of flames have been seen atop the highest peaks of the land. Most scholars attributed this to solar flares but they could not be more wrong. Soon after hulking behemoths thought long dead descended with fury and flame.

They carved a bloody path through the consecrated snow fields as many forts put in place precisely to hold them back fell one by one. Morgott and mogh watched in abject horror. Two incredibly powerful armies marched towards their location shattering everything in their path akin to hammer on glass. Mogh's mind began to calculate hoping to find some way to-ah so simple. He smiled as he turned to Morgott who had his back to him.

A bloody sword manifested within his palm before inserting itself in the back of his own brother. "AHGGH- w-why brother?" Morgott said as he stumbled back barely managing to avoid the heart piercing attack from the last person he ever trusted. "Oh it is quite simple, for me to become lord I need two shards and an audience with mother, you hold one shard and i the other, should you die to me then I shall lead this city to victory" mogh said.

A golden glow covered the wound of Morgott yet it did not close as his brows scrunched up in anger. "In the end all where traitors, all traitors must be extinguished lest they poison the roots of the great tree" he said as his cane cracked and revealed a beautiful blade. "I trusted traitors, never again" he said before he leaped towards his brother.

Outside of the city another great clash was underway. Golden warriors clashed with royal blue and silver warriors. In the skies spectral legions harassed those below but ballistas and archers kept them at bay. Golden armored trolls swept their great swords across the battlefield cleaving many into pieces. Glint stone dragons flew high in the sky raining down their deadly breaths leaving nothing but scorching cerulean flames where they went.

The only reason they had not yet breached the walls where the golden knights and the ballistas. The knights themselves wielded lightning like none other as they sent bolt after bolt to never miss their mark. On the port side of the city knights clashed fiercely against a legion of warriors. These warriors where different as their colors resembled a scarlet silver. "FOR HOSLOW" they yelled in unison and at the forefront a woman clad in Hoslow silver armor with red accents led the charge as she sent bloody armaments towards her foes.

Within the city sewers another battle took place as mages teleported in and began their slaughter. Glintstone magics and mana enhanced weaponry cut into overgrown flesh and too much blood. Their foes resembled grotesque beings attuned to blood and leading said monsters where tarnished alongside apostles who yet still claimed to their sanity. The battles underground where fierce but none fiercer than the one at the grand lift of rold as golden warriors fought back the flaming giants and their minions.

Many a golem who survived the fall of the floating city fought alongside the warriors of leyndell as they held the giants at bay. The citizens within the walls felt the ground shake, each building creaked uncomfortably with the constant battle going on. Every now and then a stray attack would enter the city and take lives, that Leonel knew of very well but if his forces made it in first then evacuation could begin.

If the giants made it then the erdtree would burn alongside the city and without the elden ring and its power no peace shall be achieved. He floated gently atop the city overlooking the chaos unfold with a pained look. Once again war had to waged for peace to be achieved. "Once this war ends I will eradicate all worship of any and all gods, their insanity will never again plague this land" he swore to himself before he shot down towards the throne room at blinding speeds.

Morgott and Mogh continued to clash fiercely as ignited blood met conjured golden armaments. Around them a fiery ring burned strongly slowly but surely limiting the area for their clash. A strong slam alerted the two to another presence as a small glint stone wave came crashing towards the two of which they defended their own way.

"Leonel" the two brothers said as they sized up the demigod before them. His old armor now replaced with a silver set gifted to him by Iris. This set now far stronger than before and enchanted by Luna. It's design curtesy of Ana as she took up the craft just to aid him of which he was grateful for. It had enough space for his wings to easily unfold and show they cerulean splendor. He summoned his new halberd and slammed it down.

Made entirely of the scales and bones of a long dead elder glint stone dragon the weapon was a thing of beauty. The old designs now showed that of a triumphant dragon mixed with a lion roaring atop a pile of corpses with the moon at its back and violet roses around it. "Doesn't surprise me really but to think this sorry excuse of a demigod actually wounded you? Pathetic, either way both of you will die and the elden ring will be used to remove the gods entirely from the chess board, I will give you one last chance Morgott, fight with me and I will spare the city and whatever remains of your golden order, refuse and I will wipe out whatever influence gold has over this land" Leonel said as the halberd twirled at his side.

Morgott did not speak but instead chose to summon more weapons and launch them at them. Mogh stopped them with fiery blood and Leonel simply swatted them to the side with a swipe of his halberd before rushing forwards. Mogh met him at the middle exchanging blows with his sword cane yet the strength behind the blows only sent him skidding back to which he took advantage of and sent a row of spears towards leonel.

Mogh took this chance to summon more blood around the arena and alight it before launching it towards leonel and Morgott. Leonel tapped his foot upon the floor erecting a glint stone wall stopping the spears and watched as the flaming blood approached yet something seemed to cut the wave of blood in half slightly revealing it to be a glint stone like sword floating in the air before distorting and disappearing. 'Thanks sis' he thought to himself glad to be able to wield a moonlight great sword as the weapon was immensely powerful. Mogh scowled before rushing forward poking with his trident yet only meeting glint stone which exploded into sharp pieces that cut into him.

Leonel rushed forward again slamming his halberd onto the sword cane of Morgott but instead of a strong slam like what Morgott was expecting the halberd turned illusory halfway and went through the blade before pivoting and slamming into a hastily made piece of armor right into the ribs of Morgott sending him flying towards a pillar of stone.

A swift kick met a trident tip and a glint stone pillar cut flesh as Mogh was once again wounded. Morgott got off the rubble clutching his side knowing full well that the blow shattered his ribs and popped a lung. He infused energy into his hands as he hastily tried to mend the wound happy to find it not cursed like the wound upon his back. Mogh summoned more and more blood as he tried to keep Leonel at a distance but he knew it, he was being toyed with.

Leonel sighed before slamming his foot down causing dozens of glint stone spikes to form before him. He raised his hand and shot them forward towards Mogh who summoned a wall of blood and stopped them. Unfortunately for him they where heavily infused with mana as a deafening explosion sent the omen slamming onto a wall.

Leonel raised the halberd above his head narrowly stopping a descending cane sword. He looked up and made eye contact with Morgott through his slitted helm. Morgott could almost swear he saw his eyes convey regret in his last moments as a blue great sword cut through his chest revealing its splendor to the world. A strong blast of mana sent Morgott once again crashing into a pillar driving the sword deeper and fully shredding his heart as blood flowed freely.

Leonel walked towards the omen, the only one to ever earn the respect of the bigoted order who hated them. Morgott looked up through labored breaths as he felt his life slowly slip away. "You where a good king, a good man even yet, you chose the wrong thing to believe in" Leonel said as he looked up to the starless sky before him.

"Such a man deserves a star blessed burial, funny, your order and my kingdom has quite the similarities yet neither wished to see it, know that you died honorably last king of the golden order" Leonel said before the last vestiges of life left Morgott. A golden glow tried to approach Leonel but as it got closer it grew more and more cerulean. "No" he said as it simply stopped mid air. " I already cleansed the rune of the unborn from the taint of the gods, you too will be cleansed" he said as he grasped it.

Within his hand the rune began to glow more and more intensely as it slowly shifted towards a silver like glow. He looked towards where Mogh was last before shaking his head to see nothing but a small puddle of blood knowing full well that the rat escaped. "No matter, his rune is not useful to me, Iris" he said before biting his thumb and allowing a bit of blood to drop onto the ruined marble floor.

From that single drop Iris formed before him before removing his helmet and snatching a quick kiss. " you seem to be in a good mood, tell me love what of the city?" He asked as he held onto the glowing rune. "Well Luna is leading the final charge to clear the walls and mount the defense in wait of the giants, Ana is leading the evacuation alongside her knights and the port is clear and already receiving much needed weaponry to aid in the defense against the giants" she said.

"Good, Mogh escaped, there are many entrances and exits leading to the underground but unfortunately for him I know exactly which corner he likes to hide in, when you and your forces are done aiding here, take a week to re stock and head for the siofra portal, his little dynasty is hidden within the river perched at a high altitude, ask Luna to create a portal and bring me his head" he said.

She smiled widely at the thought of it. "Of course exercise the utmost caution, he is no stronger than any other demigod and he will be much weaker against you but what he lacks in strength he makes up for in mind, be wary of any and all traps and remember" he said as he pulled her hand up exposing a shining blue ring upon her ring finger. "Should you require my aid or simply wish me by your side all you have to do is pour mana into it" he said.

"I know, I know dear, have a little faith in me please? Now then go and meet her, I'll handle things here" she said as she gave him a strong hug and turned into blood. He smiled slightly before looking towards the glowing rune in his hand. Now silver in color he absorbed the anchor rune swiftly. A rush of intense power filled him once again yet this time he knew it was his own with no interference.

The rune served to unlock his potential further all while serving as a well spring of unlimited energy he could tap into whenever needed. He looked towards the double doors that would lead deeper into the erd tree, to where his father/ mother awaited. Would she/he even be sane? He wondered yet the answer was but a bit away and he resolved himself to find it. He stepped forward and pushed the doors open with ease.
