Chapter 4: The Cheat

Nevada unconsciously raised his head when he noticed the bright sun rays passing through the gaps of his closed windows.

He also heard his stomach growl which made him glance at the table near the sofa.

On top of it were the food that Miranda had brought.

It took a lot of determination and willpower to finally pick himself up.

Nevada was weak and would sometimes get confused and dizzy due to his heat, but he managed to get up because of hunger.

He found out that there was no cure to his heat other than having his mate permanently mark him, or make someone satisfy or temporarily mark him.

Thus, because he still hasn't found his mate yet, the best he can do is eat, gain energy, and be strong so he can endure.

The system continued to admire and praise him because of this mindset.

This Nevada from the human system was really great!

Nevada felt a shiver down his spine. It felt like somebody was watching him and talking shit behind his back.

The system: …

Nevada brushed the thought aside since it must be the female wolves again. He didn't want them to occupy even a tiny space in his head.

[The host must not be so pessimistic. Thinking positive is the key to completing the task!]

Nevada was a bit startled when the system spoke without warning.

He instantly retorted, "What are you blabbering about? Besides, if thinking positively can help, then I wouldn't even be here to clean up someone else's mess."

The system was offended and still wanted to answer, but it could only shut up and endure its host's sharp tongue because Miranda was about to wake up.

Miranda's hand twitched.

Nevada saw the slight movement from the corner of his eyes, making him forget the little banter he had with the system.

Not long after, Miranda dazedly sat up and stretched her hands to ease her numb arms. She asked, "Were you talking to someone?"

Nevada coldly replied, "No, I wasn't."

Beep!

[OOC detected! First warning!]

Nevada's left brow raised in question. How was he out of character?

He was just simply answering a question!

This system is really ridiculous. No wonder it had errors in it.

The system grew quiet for a moment before elaborating the given warning.

A window popped up in Nevada's sight, and in it, some of the original Nevada's qualities were clearly written in all caps.

Because he was sent to the time when it had already been years since the original Nevada had been with them, he had a character record. That means acting unnaturally will make him suspicious.

Nevada did not react to the system, but he quickly smiled cutely at his mother and greeted her sweetly, "I was greeting you a good morning."

Although there were traces of difficulties in Nevada's expression, Miranda was thankful that she could still see her son smile this happily.

Her worries were pushed back, and her courage was reignited.

"Mother, have you eaten?" Nevada asked, eyes curving from happiness. Before he took a sip of the soup from his bowl, he added, "Your soup is really the best! I suddenly feel so much better!"

Miranda laughed as she stood up to walk up to the table.

It was impossible to feel well this fast, but she was glad that her son could cope with his heat.

This won't be the last, so this optimism was a good thing.

On the other hand, the system was rendered speechless at the sudden change of its host.

Who was this cute and loveable teenager! So scary!

"It's good that you like it. If you want seconds, give me your bowl and I'll go get more for you," Miranda told him, patting his back gently.

"Yes, please!" Nevada handed her the bowl without a drop left in it.

Miranda had a smile on her face as she left the room to get him another helping.

Once the door clicked close, Nevada was back to looking like an adult who had the world resting on his shoulders.

Well, he was technically an adult, and the original Nevada's story was indeed on him now.

The system was perplexed.

According to the data, he wasn't close to his original family. There was a significant distance between him and his parents, so it was expecting him to feel slightly awkward, or if not, maybe at least embarrassed.

That was why the system initially wanted to send him to the very beginning of the story, so he can learn how to properly interact with his parents. Or develop his own character and attitude toward his parents.

"System, aren't you like a god of this world or something?" Nevada asked as he chewed on a grape.

[To answer the host, yes, the system can be compared to a god. However, systems are only in charge of running the world, while worlds also have their own systems which make sure that everything is happening naturally without the influence of outsiders.]

"Hence, the OOC warning?" Nevada nodded in understanding.

He was in deep thought for a moment.

Afterwards, he went straight to the point, "Then you're, like, super overpowered, right? Are you able to see or feel the other characters aside from me?"

[The host is correct. I am your system and I am connected to you, but as I am a part of this dimension, I can reach anywhere as long as I use the host's energy.]

Nevada's eyes lit up. A cheat!

He excitedly asked, "Then how do I get energy?"

[When an original character of this world is inside the host's parameters, the system can absorb their data through you. It is like installing their resources to the system so that the system can access them anytime.]

"Cool!" Nevada exclaimed like a kid. "Miranda was here all this time. Did you install hers? How wide are my parameters?"

To demonstrate, the system flashed a video to Nevada.

His eyes flickered and he appeared to be in a daze outside, but no one else could see that in his eyes, there were green lines and moving colors displayed on the surface.

[As long as a character has physical contact with the host, the system automatically installs their data.]

First, it showed Miranda who had the corner of her lips slightly lifted upwards as she poured soup onto a bowl.

Nevada's expression did not change as he watched her.

No warmth, no piety, just nonchalance, like watching a show acted out by people unrelated to him.

The system was quiet.

Next, the video faded out, then a new scene appeared.

This time, it was Cheyenne. She was laying on bed beside a man who should be her mate and sleeping.

Even a slap is counted as physical contact. Nevada was speechless.

Moments later, Miranda brought him the bowl of soup he requested. She was in a hurry.

She kissed his forehead before striding out again, a frown drawn on her face.

Nevada curiously "checked" on her and watched her trudge the hallways of their home with heavy steps.

The system really had its perks. It was acting like a CCTV and a total creep.

The system was more aggrieved than ever when it heard its host's thoughts. How come he was the creep?

He was obviously the one happily taking advantage of such a powerful cheat!

"Huh, who's that?" Nevada unconsciously blurted out as he sat properly on his seat.

His round, innocent eyes were wide with interest.

A dignified looking young man was waiting in their conference room.

His hair was gelled up in spikes, a complete contrast to his gentle features. It made him look charming.

Yes, Nevada was gay, and his type was indeed younger guys who were eye candies.

The system could practically see hearts in his eyes.

"Lucas," Miranda greeted.

The man stood up and also greeted her.

A servant went inside the room to serve them drinks, but both of them ignored it.

They were just looking and sizing each other up until Miranda spoke without a filter.

"Beta Lucas, I don't appreciate this visit while our alpha is away. More so when your warriors are with you, sniffing and camping at our borders."

There was acid in the way Miranda spoke, very different from how she usually talks to Nevada.

She was a luna after all. She had to protect the pack while their alpha was away, and she needed to protect their son.

Lucas smiled and raised both his hands in an attempt to show that he wasn't here for any ill intentions.

"We are not here for anything else other than the errand my alpha ordered me to do."

Miranda was even more alert and became hostile, but Lucas maintained his smile and continued, "Blue Crescent's Luna, no need to be so hostile. I think it's quite impossible that you don't know our alpha. After all, Shiloh's mother was your friend."

Miranda heaved a deep breath, then exhaled as her shoulders slightly relaxed. But she was still on guard.

"She was more than a good friend. She was the sister I never had."

Upon hearing Miranda's reply, the smile on Lucas's face grew even wider.

"Shiloh wanted me to relay his message to you and to get your response as soon as possible," Lucas said. "Submit to Shiloh. The pack will be unharmed as long as you peacefully submit to him."

"That…" Miranda was unable to answer.

It would indeed be ideal.

White Moon Pack has the strongest wolves and they don't lack resources. If there were to be a fight, they wouldn't last long against them.

"Theo is away at the moment. I need to wait for him," she replied instead.

Lucas leaned towards her a bit and tapped a finger on the table. He whispered menacingly, "That's what Shiloh had wanted me to do, but I'm afraid that won't guarantee our pack's security."

Miranda's earlier hostility came back. She growled low and asked, "What do you mean?"

Smiling, Lucas leaned back to his chair and looked directly into Miranda's death glares as he carelessly said, "I heard you have an omega?"

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
MIESHA MIESHA

I'm gonna be honest. This was only supposed to be werewolf, but a/b/o tempted me. Just think of this as, like, when the other genders were still a mystery and rarity. I always wanted to write abo bed scenes and also try werewolf, so I took this chance. (。ŏ﹏ŏ) Please don't be confused.
