Chapter 25: Lamba
I did some maths and found that the best time to challenge Sunbell would be 3 days after my 18th birthday.
We had slightly more than 2 years and a few months from today.
I chose the 18th birthday because, with the system, it will give me an added advantage.
As for why 3 days extra after my birthday, it is to figure out my system and also because that is a special day.
I also had to get Lamba to join the crew.
During these 3 months in the Torino Kingdom, we had grown closer to the natives and also Lamba. They still don't trust us completely, but it is still greater than no trust.
We had a talk with Lamba and came to know that he has a sick mother and they were unable to cure her with anything. So, we decided to help
Jai: "So Lamba, how about Law's help. He might be able to cure her"
Lamba: "Thanks, I would not reject, but I would not hold much hope. Nothing worked on her. It is an incurable disease. All we could do is ease her pain"
Law: "I would say you can hope for more but under one condition. You will never mention the way that I cure her"
We had no reason to expose Law's devil fruit.
Lamba said, "Of course, I would never disclose it. You are my benefactor"
We went to her room and Lamba's mom said
"Oh, who do we have here? Are they your friends Lamba dear?"
Given her condition, she had some serious issues. Her eyesight and hearing were poor due to old age and her heart and lungs had issues. Surprisingly, she did not have much issues with joints.
Lamba shouted and said, "Yes they are my friends and they are also here to cure you"
He had to shout so that she could hear. That reminded me of my grandma from my previous life.
She started laughing and said "My time has come son, no need to work so hard on my health"
Lamba said "Don't say anything like that mom. Look you will be back to full health in no time. Just let him have a look at you"
She agreed nonetheless
Law: "Room, Amputate"
He cut Lamba's mother's body into several pieces as per his need. Lamba was shocked and shouted with rage
"What the hell did you do? Why did you have to kill her? WHY???"
He tried to attack Law, but Bepo stopped his hand
I said "Trust us, she is not harmed. He is using his fruit powers to check from within"
It did not work. He was going crazy and Sachi had to restrain him from behind
But his mother said "I am not hurt son, look I am alive"
This time he was shocked for real and saw his mother's head talking and he made the classic Enel face.
Soon he came to know about this power and was relieved. He apologized to us wholeheartedly. We of course let it go since any sane person would react the same way he did.
Law analyzed her parts from lungs to heart and also all the other internal organs. He finally came to a conclusion and did the operation.
Her operation took a few hours and Law rested in between since he could not use his room at a stretch for hours. Concluding the operation, he assembled her back.
He said with a sad tone "She was infected with a disease that targets the heart and lungs. That caused her vitality huge damage and as a result of that, her eyesight and hearing were also got affected, due to which she looks much older. I have removed the virus completely but there is a piece of bad news"
Even we got curious. If Law's skills could not cure her completely then it must be a very dangerous disease
Law continued, "You see if I had operated on the earlier stages, there would be no problems, but since the virus infected her body for too long, her heart and lungs are not in good condition at all. What I did would only delay her death"
Lamba was happy at first but he soon was crying again. He got some hope and it was broken again
I thought,
'I did not expect that her overall healing was beyond Law. But even in the Punk Hazard he never restored the limbs of Ceaser's lackeys instead he switched them with animal parts. Wait, switched it with animal parts. That's it'
"Oi Law, you did some experiments on merging animals into chimeras right? How about replacing her heart and lungs with someone else's "
Law: "I can do that, but if we replace her parts with animal parts, her body will not be able to take it. A person more or less needs to have a superhuman physique to handle animal parts"
Jai: "I did not mean animal parts, I meant replacing them with human parts. How will the compatibility be then?"
Law: "It is possible, in fact, it will have good compatibility"
Lamba was happy again and said,
"Take my parts Law. My mother will be healthy again"
I bonked him with a fist of love and said
"Do you think she will be happy to live by killing you?"
Lamba: "But who will give her their heart and lungs willingly?"
Jai: "Who do you think we are? We are pirates. Do you think I will go around and ask someone for donation? And just to be clear, our target will be outlaws, not innocent civilians"
Lamba had tears and snot flowing out of his eyes and nose respectively.
"Thank you. Thank you so much. I don't know how to repay the favor. If there is anything that I can do for you please tell me"
I held back from saying 'join my crew', but I said
"Law, get a list of compatibility requirements, and guys, let's get the best of parts for our friend"
Sachi: "Oi oi Jai, you are saying as if we are going for some grocery items"
Hodur: "Now I wonder if you wanted to be some organ dealer instead of a pirate"
I looked at Hodur with a tick mark on my head and a grin on my face
"Looks like our dear Hodur wanted to be a punching bag instead of an explorer"
Both of us got into a brawl.

We roamed around the sea and set our routes to the islands that were outlaw friendly. If we find the proper "donor" on our way, it will be the best. If not we will have to cause some commotion to capture a "donor"
Fortunately, it was not difficult for us to find one on our way. We saw a pirate ship and started chasing them. Once we caught up to them, we boarded the ship.
I felt like I saw the captain somewhere, and I asked him
"Do I know you? I felt like I saw you somewhere"
That captain said, "I am the infamous yellow teeth, with a bounty of 20 M."
I remembered now. He made it into the newspapers a few weeks ago for looting, raping, and finally burning down a small island with a small populace recently. I must say that his epithet suits him well. This guy certainly did not take his dental hygiene seriously.
I asked, "Law, scan them and check if the sizes match"
Law did a scan and came across a female pirate who was very short. Meanwhile, a fodder of yellow teeth spoke to his captain
"Captain, they are the Lionheart pirates. They raided a navy base and regularly raids pirates. And the captain is ``Red Rain`` Jai. When he fights, the enemy's blood starts raining. Moreover, everyone who has a bounty on their crew has a higher bounty than you captain"
Yello Teeth did not like this and shot the fodder
He shouted to his crew "Grow some balls, you bastards. We have the number advantage. Surround and kill them all"
I did not need to give any proper plan and said
"Leave that woman and kill the rest"
As if it was a competition between Hercules and Thor, they started killing everyone. I just started shooting them all together Izo style. Arjun made bullets for me and since in this world gunpowder was very efficient and cheap, I used guns a lot.
Once we finished everyone, I knocked out the "donor" with my king's haki and we went back to the island.
On the island, we met Lamba's mom and Lamba told her
"Mother, we found your cure. We can do the operation"
She said, "Oh... You kids are so doing so much for me. Thank you"
We decided on our way not to tell her of the cure. She most likely would not accept it.
She was not a medic and therefore she did not ask about the cure.
She was put into anesthesia. We did not put the pirate under any drug since once the parts get replaced, there might be some problem with the difference in anesthesia dosage. I just used my haki to knock her out again and again when she is about to wake up.
After a few hours, the operation was successful. The pirate died during the operation. I quickly picked her body up and dropped it into the ocean without letting any islanders see me.
Law too rested post the operation. After 12 hours, Lamba's mother gained consciousness.
"I am feeling a lot better, even better than before my disease"
Lamba was in tears and he was really glad that his mother survived. They bowed down to us and thanked us. We had a feast after that and celebrated. When asked what we did to cure we simply stated that we found some cure on some island.
A day later, I saw Lamba sitting on a cliff looking at the ocean. I joined him and sat down near him
"Oi Lamba, what are you looking out there? Want to go out to the seas?"
"Yes Jai, I always wanted to go out there, but my mother's condition always held me back"
"How about now? Why don't you join my crew?"
He looked at me surprised and he looked down and said
"Jai, you have done a lot for me. I can't express it in my words. But I want to monitor my mother's health for 6 months. If she is alright after that, I will surely join you"
"I understand. We are here for 2 years and a few months. You can make the decision till that time"
"Thank you thank you so much"
If he joined, I wanted him to join wholeheartedly. If said yes right now indecisively, I would have rejected him.
He had something that is not very common on the seas, that is loyalty. This trait is the most important to me, more important than strength or powers.
I planned to stay here either way so why not give him his time.

< 1-month timeskip>
During this one month, I burdened Law and Lamba with a few tasks. Law's tasks were to polish two skills.
One was reviving someone from death with a countershock, kinda like Enel's skill. That only applied for a small margin of time after death.
The second was joining body parts perfectly after they are cut, that is, if I cut off a person's arm, Law should be able to join it back as if I never cut it.
Lamba was tasked with making medicines. One medicine was to amplify the emotions a lot temporarily, other medicines were cures for poisons. What I planned to do was increase the poison resistance general of the crew.
The medicines must not have any permanent side effects of course.
Both of them completed their tasks today.
'If this works, I can awaken their haki much faster', I thought.
We traveled to Sunbell's island and picked up Sunbell, Bella, and Sunny. We were into the open seas.
"Ok guys let's do this. Bepo, freeze the sea and make a platform"
Bepo froze the sea, which spans 9 acres. We did this to train so that no island gets destroyed unnecessarily. We walked to the middle of the island.
"Lamba, inject these into Arjun, Hercules, Bella, and Sunny's bodies"
What I gave them is the emotion amplifier drug. Like it is said that Haki blooms in adversities. If we use such a drug it will increase every emotion, which should increase their danger sense by a lot. I had discussed it with Sunbell earlier and he gave a thumbs up to my plan. He is here to monitor it.
Right now, Arjun, Hercules, Sunny, and Bella were trained in haki exercises. It would be ideal if they could do the exercises for 1 more year before facing any adversities, but I had to speed things up for the fight against Sunbell.
I upped their training by a lot with continuous fights against everyone on the crew, but they have not awakened haki yet. Thus, this time I prepared something special. Lamba is still not ready for whatever special I am about to introduce. He needs a lot of training before this.
I put my pistols, shirt, and scabbard on the ship and just carried the sword.
"Everyone other than Arjun, Bella, Hercules, and Sunny back off. Now to you guys, I will not kill you, but if you want not to face something that is worse than death, then you better unlock haki"
With Madara's grin on my face, I continued
"because this time, I will not hold back"
They gulped after seeing me like this. Even our battle maniac Hercules seemed slightly scared.
I stabbed the sword into the ice and got ready. First I will go all fist and kicks. If I use my sword now, they will probably bleed out before the required time.
With my grin, I sorued to them. I attacked Arjun first since he is a long-range guy and punched his face without holding back. He flew back. Hercules jumped at me and I kicked him to Sunny, which resulted in both of them flying back again.
I dashed to Bella. She tried to grapple me with her tentacle legs, but I caught one of her legs and repeatedly slammed her into the ice like Hulk and Loki.
This time Sunny got angry and attacked me with fishman karate. I threw Bella at him and she got pushed away by the fishman karate wave. I jumped at Sunny and axe kicked his head and slammed it into the ice.
The fight continued with all of them getting decimated by me. I kept giving them tips in between but nonetheless, I enjoyed it. I now got the reason why some people used to make smurf accounts and bully newbies.
Each of them showed some signs of Haki, but it is not there yet. I went back to my sword which was stabbed into the ice and picked it up.
My entire demeanor changed and I leaked out my killing intent. Someone with good haki can see through my fake killing intent, but not them.
Bepo: "Oi is Jai seriously going to kill them?"
Law: "He probably asked me to practice my countershock for this"
Sunbell gave a thought and said with a smile
"He is a crazy guy, but this push is probably what is needed. Law boy, stay ready"
I dashed to Bella and slashed her with the intent to cut off her legs. She saw the future like Luffy vs Mihawk and dodged it but one of her tentacles got cut off. Sunny could not bear it and punched me. I blocked it but saw his hand was covered in black.
Dodging a bullet from Arjun, I slashed at Sunny this time and he blocked it again with his black hand. With a smile, I kicked him hard towards Hercules and attacked Bella again.
This time she started dodging it again. She failed a few times which resulted in 3 more of her tentacles getting cut off.
I dashed to Hercules and tried to cut off his arm. But a bullet blocked the hit, by deflecting the attack. Arjun too awakened his observation haki since, without it, this shot would have been impossible.
I tried to dash at Arjun, but Hercules caught my leg. I tried to cut off his arm, but he used his armament haki to block the slash.
I was glad that the four of them awakened it now since any further fight would have resulted in more blood loss.
I called off the fight. They had awakened their haki. Now all that is left is to get good control of their haki.
Law immediately started treating Bella, and perfectly joined her tentacles. Lamba used his medicines to first detoxify their earlier drug and later he did bandages on each of them.
I had a few bruises so I punched a hole in the ice and jumped onto the sea to take a bath.
After I came back, I saw them sitting there and looking at me like I am some crazy monster.
Penguin: "Oi Jai, you had us all scared. I thought someone might die when you picked up the sword"
Hodur: "I figured you will not kill them, but you were very serious about dealing very heavy injuries to them"
Thor: "This was reckless even by my standards"
I smiled and replied
"I had to go all out. It is better to face my attacks here and improve haki rather than dying in the seas because of the lack of it"
Sunbell said, "He is right. While I did not like what you did to my daughter, it is very much important that you improved their haki. I would not have approved it if Law lacked skills or the devil fruit"
Sunbell previously tried Law's skills on his pinky finger which I cut off and he was confident of the skills.
Jai: "Anyways, how are you guys feeling?"
Hercules: "Thrilled"
Arjun: "Almost dead"
Sunny: "Angry"
Bella: "Scared"
Arjun: "Bella-chan, you can come to me if you are scared of him"
Sunny: "How about I come"
And he jumped at Arjun
Arjun: "Nobody asked you playing gooseberry"
And they got into a brawl. Did I clearly sensed a spike in their stamina just now?

AN: Yo guys, it's been a long time. I'm afraid I got lost on the path of life.
I won't give any excuse, I relaxed during this time, and also read some Naruto ffs.
One reason why this chap got delayed was because I found it quite boring (Lamba's mom part), which I did not feel like writing, but Lamba is a character that I wanted to write since he won't ever be OP in the crew, unlike the heavy hitters. He is like Nami, very good at his support skills, but bad at combat. But like Nami, he won't be useless either.
I plan to go back to my 1 chap/3 days upload frequency (or 2 chaps a week).
Anyway, I plan to start the system unlock in this volume (saga) itself, rather than the next volume as previously stated, simply because I did not think of Sunbell at that time.
