Chapter 5: Chapter: Gone as quick as you came

Mathias couldn't help but grin at the

Irony, of all the things she chose to be

called… she chose the Spanish rendition of

black. Also! The women had such a celestial

beauty that calling her anything remotely close

to the abyssal darkness that surrounded them,

was the pinnacle of hubris.

"Pleasure to meet you, Noir.." he snickered

"Mathias, do you know where you are?" She asked once more.

A part of Mathis compelled him to give a

silly answer while the rest of him didn't want

to know one way or the other; he would

have to say something, lest he be rude.

"I… don't." He chose to answer concisely.

Noir didnt expect a strait answer, from

the memories she took, she saw mathias to

be mischievous, sarcastic and witty… of

course those memories were from his

middle/ late adolescent years.

"~hehe~ Would you believe me if I told you: You're dead?" She giggled.

"I suppose I'd have to believe you, I'm not

sure what you'd gain from lying." Mathias replied.

Noir's other question began weighing on his

mind.

'Where am I?' Shifting his eyes from Noir, mathias scanned the void-like darkness.

The harder he looked, the more the

darkness seemed to played tricks on him. A

few times Mathias thought he could make

out something within the void… but there

was nothing to be found, not here.

Perhaps that was an amiable skill the abyss

had on the mind: the more you longed to

see something, the more the abyss swayed

the mind too see.

* If that was the case, what would that make Noir?

* what tricks did the abyss play on her?

Mathias placed his hands on the sides of his

head, like to keep it from bursting apart

As the abyss exerted it's daunting grasp

over him

"It's true you know!…"

Said Noir, her voice piercing the void's

psychological hold on Mathias

"… that saying from where you come from: if

you gaze into the abyss, so too does the

abyss gaze into you. That's what I was

referring to."

Mathias turned his attention to Noir and the

straining pain dissipated. Suspicious

thoughts sprouted within Mathias,

'How could someone survive in this place?who is Nior?'

An intrinsic absence became apparent

within Mathias; leaving him with a numb,

hollow feeling.

'Something isn't right…'

He tried to speculate what ailed him, only to

feel the hollowing absence grow.

"Noir, may I ask you something?"

"Of course!"

"Who… no, …what are you?" Mathias narrowed his brow, giving off an air of seriousness.

"That's not easy too explain, but I suppose

you could say…I'm what's left." Noir paused.

"…?"

Mathias waited for Noir to continue,

expecting some grand explanation that

would tie everything that happened, Together.

"You know what, It's not important!-"

She steered the conversation in a different

direction as she turned away from mathias

"-what's important is: you can't be here."

Noir's soft, warm tone turned harsh and cold.

"Excuse me? I DIDNT CHOSE TO BE HERE"

A conflicted feeling of confusion arose in

Mathias followed by anger. Noir thought that acting harsh would spur Mathias into wanting to leave. Because in the memories she took when Mathias was confronted with hostility, he left the aggressor.

"I can help you out of this place… if you want…"

Her harsh tone melting, offering a sliver of

compassion.

"I don't understand you, one moment your

kind, the next your harsh! What's your

deal?!"

Noir took a moment before answering, she

already decided on what she was going to

say, but by taking a moment, it would at

least appear that she put effort into her

reply.

She decided to come clean and explain the

magnitude of Mathias' situation

"This place does nothing but take…. It takes

away everything,your memories… your

sanity… your body… and even your soul. It's

a place that resides outside the realm of life

and death, its a place that both does and

doesn't exist. For something to exist it has

to be observed yes? Something to validate

its existence… but everything that comes to

this place… BECOMES apart of this place."

Noir paused. some of Mathias' stolen memories melt away, Fuel for Noir's passionate explanation.

"You asked me what I am… I am what's

leftover and I'm what awaits to be further

taken by this place. Before you arrived, I

was formless, a withering husk waiting to

fade. So when I found you, I did the only

thing I knew how to do: TAKE. By taking a

part of you, I was able to take form. And

with form I could speak. I've regained a little

of who I was and along with some of my

power… the part I took from you, was the

decaying portion of your soul. The portion

that robbed you of joy, the same portion

that stopped you from enjoying your

stagnant life…."

Mathias was left speechless, there was TOO

much for him to unpack… however He didn't

get the feeling she was being dishonest. On

the contrary, Noir was quite sincere.

"… I also stole some of your memories, an

unfortunate result from what I took. For that

I'm sorry…" She continued to explain.

'Is that what I'm feeling? The emptiness

from what I lost?' Mathias thought, openly accepting Noir's explanation.

"And by taking away a piece of who you

were, I was able to learn a great deal about

you . an' I know this isn't a fate you deserve.

After all those symbols… er uh, I mean

tattoos… they cover you even in your purist

form. You've imprinted them onto your soul,

in a way they are you. So because I know

what those symbols mean to you, and

because you have my gratitude… I'll help

you out of this place."

Noir finished turning back to Mathias

offering him her hand, along with a sweet

smile.

Mathias accepted her words as truth… and

contemplated her offer.

"So I get to go back home?" He asked unsure of if he should be happy or sad. By his responce Noir realized mathias had the wrong idea.

"Well… actually, I can't send you into the

cycle you fell out of… I don't have the power

for that. Sorry."

Noir guiltily admitted.

'Oh… so I CANT go back home'

A disheartening thought flashed in Mathias' mind.

"Well if I can't go home, and I can't stay

here… I'll put my faith in you… send me

where you can!"

Mathias replied taking Noir's hand, and offer.

With a kind smile Noir tightened her grip,

channeling some of her regained power she initiated the process to send Mathias to another

world.

{$&/:&/!;&@@$!-&)!!!}

The reverberating static coursed through

Mathias once more! Through the static

Mathias felt an almost divine surge within

the static.

With a booming voice noir divulged some

information as Mathias was engulfed in

spire of grey light.

"Mathias, you are going to the land of

Teyvat! A land of gods and magic!

HOWEVER! I do not have the authority to

grant you the magic of Teyvat… instead I'll

impart you with the magic I do have the

authority to grant. You'll understand when

you arrive! I wish you luck! Goodbye…

Mathias."
