Chapter 17: Storm

[Nea Alba. Hotel.

Dawn. Kifestein.]

Splash~

What's with the damn water?! I woke up with a start, only to find my hands and feet tied. A pistol was placed point-blank between my eyebrows. It's difficult for any mage to sense others when asleep, so I had been changing hotels after each job. This was the first time I had to wake up to guests.

Hmm, the cuffs seem to be quite good. Shit, there is a grade 6 magic absorption on it? Magic absorption spells keep sucking out your magic, making it impossible to cast any spell. I calmly looked around the room. 7 people idiots, Thug A to Thug F it seems.

"Not a squeak from you, or your brains will be plastered all over the wall, understand?" How generic of you C, try out some new lines, maybe? I slowly nodded and pursed my lips together.

"We know you went into the vault yesterday. Since you are planning to get in our way, we have little choice in dealing with you."

"This bitch would fetch a hefty price, hahaha," said Thug F, the only woman in this gang of fools. So this is about the vault? Anarchists? How did they find out? Is Ivan caught too? Well, I'll deal with this and then worry about it.

"You fool! Boss will use her to make his art! Why would he sell such a good ingredient?" What art? Thug E lashed back at F's remark while pointing at Thug B. What's this?! Thug B is evolving! Thug B has evolved into a 'mob leader'! Yay!

Well, enough bullshit. I now knew who they were, so it was time to finish this. With my hands still bound, I wrapped the chain of the cuffs over Thug C's hand and knocked off the gun. I pumped my legs back. My knees fell on his jaw. I used the momentum and rolled over to my feet.

A table stood next to me with a tea set on it. I kicked the table towards the mob and threw a tray at Thug D, who was the farthest from me. The tray found its target right on Thug D's neck and he keeled over. Without bothering to look at him, I ran with restricted steps towards the table and jumped on it.

Thug E and F were behind a table, closet next to them. I kicked Thug F. She plummeted on Thug E and pushed him to the side. Right then, I dropped the closet with all my belongings on them.

Mob leader tried to charge a spell and Thug A... Thug A's running away. There's always that one guy, eh? I braced myself for the Mob leader's attack when a loud bang reverberated in the room. From the wall of the next room, a bullet came cleaving through. The bullet phased through the air and blew up Mob leader's fucking face! It's super effective!

This is the bullet that pushed back the Dolon! I turned my head towards the wall...

Crash~

...Which too, came down.

A beautiful purple pair of eyes met my gaze. Lying around were three brutalized corpses. The face of the man in front of me was extremely cold, his gaze unflinching. With blood splashed on his face. He looked like a demon. I was too scared to keep looking in those eyes but was frozen stiff.

The emotionless face eventually broke into a faint smile, as if the sight just now was all my imagination. A terribly gentle voice reached my ears. "Rough morning, Nea?"

**

Seeing Nea through the broken walls, I greeted her. Somehow, the fact that Nea Alba and 'Ivan' were at the vault yesterday reached the anarchists' ears and they visited this morning to silence us.

I walked through the broken walls towards Nea, who looked rather scared. Looking around, she had not killed a single one of these bastards. I walked right towards the freezer kept in her room, removed a bottle of ale, and handed it to Nea. "You don't look so good, you OK?" I asked.

"Y...yes, I am fine."

"Is that so..." Her voice seemed weak, but I ignored it. She took the ale and gulped it down.

I walked towards the window in Nea's room. The hotel staff would come here anytime now. The sun was rising, but the dark, ragged clouds kept all its light at bay. I glanced at the Quartz clock on the wall.

The steady second hand kept jerking over the clock, clicking each second, constantly moving forward. The hand inched closer towards the 'XII' engraved on the clock. Just as the clock hit 6 AM. The city, covered in a veil of darkness, lit up.

BOOM!

A series of explosions. Pillars of flame flew up in the sky and illuminated the cityscape with smoke rose that joined the dark clouds.

Soon, screams, bullets, blood, despair, and death will spread through this city hidden from the heavens.

A storm had surged in Kifestein.
