Guidance's Lore Notes: The Vermes and the Eldritch

Guidance woke up with a groan and a massive headache. She could only be thankful that it was a Sunday, which meant that she didn't have to go to work that day as she sluggishly pushed herself out of her bed.

"Fuu...."

Blearily opening her eyes, the dev didn't bother opening up the shutters on her apartment windows. Instead, she used the guiding light of her PC's monitor screen as she navigated her room. She supposed that leaving her PC on at all times was letting her do this despite her rising electricity bill, but whatever... She could pay for it anyway.

"Ughh...."

Rubbing her eyes, Guidance weakly sat on her computer chair as she stared at her monitor's blinding glow. It was apparently four in the morning, but she knew for a fact that she wasn't going back to sleep anytime soon. So instead, she might as well be productive and work on her lore.

"Let's see.... I wrote about the Deep last night... and I accidentally... Oh right..."

Guidance clicked her tongue as she remembered the blunder that she had the night before. She had added a scrapped idea back into her game, something that really should've stayed scrapped if she didn't want her game balance to get harder than it already was.

"I really should work on that, huh..."

Lazily hovering her hands over her keyboard, the dev let out a deep sigh as she began writing.

The Vermes.

catch-all term for the various super-organisms that inhabit the Shallow Deep They are known for their massive size, incoherent shapes and appendages, and their general disposition to attack anything that seems to be man-made that crosses their waters. A general menace for any sailor of the Deep, [Rigs] are usually lined with a wood just for a way to minimize the tendency of these creatures to attack passing merchant ships. Unfortunately, Vermes meat is inedible, thus they are only considered pests to be eradicated.

It's good to note though that the Vermes have an aversion to light and fire, the latter of which is ironic as they are usually found in the hot waters of the Shallow Deep.

Guidance raised an eyebrow as she stared at what she just wrote. Was she being stupid again? Then again, did it all really have to make sense in the first place?

"Forget about logic... This is a fantasy world..."

At her own reminder, the dev continued on writing...

The Eldritch

A class of Vermes reserved only for the most power and destructive of these creatures. While their origin is relatively unknown, it is widely accepted that Eldritch class Vermes are those that have lived for far beyond their usual life cycle to the point that they gain a rudimentary power of their own. Some of the more known Eldritch are those that stalk the only pathway out of the Shallow Deep, barring any [Rig] from entering the cold deep waters of the Grand Abyss.

Wait... She just wrote herself into a corner again...

"Why do I keep doing this to myself?!"

Her splitting headache returning, Guidance groaned as she read out her own work. She just wrote in the concept of the Grand Abyss, which meant that she had to see to adding in all of the other stuff she was planning on scrapping before she went ahead and wrote it into the game.

"I really should just revise this while it's still early..."

Letting out a sigh, she raised her hand over the delete button, her finger hovering over the one thing that could fix her lore. But then, the hesitation in her heart kept her from completely going through with it.

"Can't I just work around it?"

She had just told that to herself last night after she wrote in the Vermes. If she was confident enough in her writing abilities, then maybe she could make it so that it would all wrap around seamlessly. It wouldn't even look that bad.

"Yeah... Let's try that... I think I can do that..."

Psyching herself up, Guidance went back to work, her confidence going up the more she wrote in her story.
