Chapter 38: Emily’s new companion
When they finished their hunt, they all gathered in Max's suite for a quick lunch before getting back to their hunt.
Since it was decided that Aunt Leyla would become the official chef of the team, they spent almost all of their lunches together.
As for dinner, they mostly spent it with their own families. They all lived together on one floor, but it would naturally take a little bit of time to get used to each other and eat meals together.
After they finished eating, Alex stood up from his chair and looked at Emily, "I have a big surprise for you, Emy."
"what is it?" Emily jumped up at the mention of surprise and ran to Alex.
"Just give me your hand."
Emily didn't hesitate and extended her hand toward Alex. Alex took her hand and immediately transferred ten billion INBs to her account.
At first, Emily was a little surprised. Sure, money could be considered a good present, but it wasn't at the level of a surprise for a person of Emily's age. But the next second, something clicked in her mind, and she shouted excitedly, "can I really spend it all? Are you sure it's ok?"
Ever since Emily got her job and the legendary egg with it, she wanted to hatch it so that she could have a pet. But because Alex needed money for more important matters, she didn't have any choice but to wait patiently.
She really wanted a pet, but she knew that she had to wait since Alex wouldn't make him wait for no good reason.
Everybody around the table was curious about Alex's surprise and couldn't wait to know what could get Emily, who practically had anything a little girl her age would want, so excited.
All of them looked at Emily with expectations in their eyes and were waiting for her to reveal the surprise when an egg not much bigger than an ostrich egg appeared out of nowhere in her hands.
Emily carefully put the egg on the table and then looked at it for a few seconds before mumbling under her breath, "please be something really cute…."
Nobody understood what was so special about the egg, so when Alex saw their confusion, he started explaining, "As you all may know, Emily is a healer. But what you don't know is that Emily has another job called "holy hatcher" that allows her to have beast companions," then he pointed to the egg and said, "this right here is a legendary egg that the system gave her when she got her job, but for hatching it we needed ten billion INBs that… you know, we had but couldn't spend it on hatching the egg."
"do you mean a legendary beast is coming out of that egg??" asked Ryan with amazement.
The strongest beast they had encountered till then was a level 25, uncommon beast. But that beast was strong enough to give them a really hard time hunting it even though Alex was on the team too.
So none of them could imagine the strength of a legendary beast. They couldn't even imagine the strength of a rare beast.
After Alex's explanation, all of them looked at the egg like they were looking at a treasure it was.
"ok, are you ready?" asked Emily before looking at everyone.
They all nodded, and Emily grabbed the egg in her hand.
DING
"you have met all the requirements for hatching the legendary egg."
"do you wish to hatch the egg?"
"yes/no."
Emily hesitated for a second and looked at Alex nervously. Alex just looked at her and smiled softly, reassuring her that everything would be alright.
Emily chose yes, and the egg started warming up in her hands. It soon started getting hotter and hotter to the point that she had to drop the egg.
But when she let go of the egg, it floated in the air and started getting red, and soon it got so hot that the air around it was visibly shaking.
Emily looked at the egg, worried that it might get damaged, but the egg started floating toward her as if answering her worries.
Emily was scared of touching the egg but decided to do it anyway and grabbed it with shaky hands.
"what are you doing? It's clearly hot; drop it," shouted Alex.
But what astonished everyone was that Emily didn't have the slightest expression of pain on her face.
Emily, too, looked astonished by the fact that she didn't feel any pain. In fact, not only did she not feel pain, she felt like she was being embraced by the mother, whom she didn't remember.
The feeling lasted for only a second before vanishing and disappeared the next second as if it never existed.
The egg started cracking, and a loud sound like that of a lion's roar came out of it.
Alex had seen many beasts' eggs hatch, but he had never seen one this strange. First the temperature change, then the sound. It clearly wasn't a normal hatching.
After the sound stopped, the cracks started growing on the egg's surface, and a paw broke free from inside of it.
Soon, the paw began to move, and other parts of the egg fell and revealed a cute gray puppy.
Its fur was a mix of gray and black with white straps here and there. It wasn't much bigger than a newly born puppy, and its eyes were closed.
Emily looked at the little puppy in her hand with a worried look, afraid that she might harm it if she wasn't careful.
"it's so CUUUUTEE," screamed Kate and went near Emily to see the puppy better.
The puppy heard Kate's scream and suddenly jumped in its place and abruptly opened its eyes.
The color of its eyes was something between green and gold, and it had a majestic vibe to it. The puppy laid down in Emily's hand again and shut its eyes.
"what are you doing? You scared it," said Emily with a hushed voice.
"Sorry," said Kate with a low voice and then continued, "but it's sooo cute."
Emily looked at her in excitement and said, "I know, right?"
Soon, everybody gathered around Emily to get a better look at the legendary creature.
Sid looked disappointed when he saw the puppy, "that's it? I thought it was supposed to be a formidable creature like a dragon or griffin or something."
Emily was clearly angry at his remark and wanted to bite his head off for insulting her baby, but Alex stepped in and said, "it's still a baby, and we don't know anything about it; it might be even stronger than a dragon." Then he looked at Emily and asked, "can you read me its information?"
Emily calmed down, nodded, and looked at the puppy's information.
