Chapter 38: Gossiping
Dream Galaxy Apartments.
Inside the kitchen, both the maids were working diligently. One of them was cleaning the floor, while the other was making lunch for Chen Ziyue. The maid, An Mei, who was cleaning the floor, peeked at the other maid who was cutting vegetables and other ingredients for the soup from time to time.
"An Mei, do you need something?" Li Yu, the other maid paused when she caught An Mei peeking glances at her.
Startled, An Mei dropped the cloth in her hand. Her face turned red from the embarrassment of being caught, but she shook her head hard. "No, I was just thinking...." she began.
Li Yu raised her brow. "Thinking about what?"
"Thinking about our employer," An Mei said, her eyes sparking with excitement to gossip.
Li Yu sighed. It's been a few days since she was hired to work here. At first, she was completely unaware of the identity of her employer. She only knew that person who hired her belonged to a wealthy family, had a big background, and lived in one of the expensive places. It was only after meeting her employer, that she was shocked.
It was Chen Ziyue, the popular singer, a woman currently surrounded by scandals. When she realized that she was going to work, she wanted to quit. It was not because of the scandal about her employer, but because of her nature. She heard that Chen Ziyue was a hard woman, very difficult to please, a person who often threw tantrums and liked to get into fights.
She didn't want to work for such a person who might abuse her verbally or throw tantrums here and there. She had several experiences working for rich and elite people, and she knew how these rich people often looked down on their servants. She was okay being looked down upon, but not with being treated like a slave or a punchbag.
However, she was in a dire need of money. And, working for Chen Ziyue was equal to getting a lot of money. So, with a hard heart, she decided to give it a try. To her surprise, Chen Ziyue was a lot different from what she heard on the news and the internet. She was nothing like the rumors. Looking at her, she couldn't believe that this was the same person that everyone was talking about.
For her, Chen Ziyue seemed kind and easygoing. She didn't trouble her unnecessarily or threw tantrums at them. She was quite pleasant to work around. This made her realize one thing.
One should never trust on stuff shown on the news or on the internet about someone!
"An Mei, she's our employer." Li Yu stated. "We work for her. What else is there to think about?"
"Aren't you aware of the discussion going on the internet about her?"
"I am aware," Li Yu nodded. "But, so what?"
"Huh? Aren't you curious? Don't you want to know whether she really is a mistress or not? I still remember those dirty pictures about her and -"
"An Mei!!!" Li Yu frowned and gave her a displeased look.
"What?" An Mei was confused. She looked at Li Yu with a puzzled face, wondering why she was glaring at her. "What's wrong with you? Why are you glaring at me?"
Li Yu sighed again. "An Mei, she is our employer. You shouldn't be gossiping about her."
"Gossiping?" An Mei gasped dramatically, her eyes turning wide in shock. "Li Yu, don't say that. I am not gossiping. I am simply discussing things with you."
"Then don't discuss it with me. I am not interested in talking about other people behind their back."
"Oh c'mon, Li Yu, it's just you and me, here." An Mei rolled her eyes. "Aren't you curious? I am really curious. I want to know whether Chen Ziyue really slept with that businessman or not. I want to know whether she is that businessman's mistress or not."
"An Mei, stop it!!!" Li Yu glared at her. "Whether that scandal was true or not, it has nothing to do with us. So, please stop it. I don't want to hear about it anymore. Let me just do my job properly."
Hearing that, An Mei scoffed. "Li Yu, why are you so scared? What are you afraid of? It's not like she is going to hear us or anything. Right now, she is resting in her room. She won't know about it. And, even if she did, then so what? I am not scared of her!!! It's not like she can fire us from the job or anything."
"Like c'mon, who do you think will be willing for a woman with such a stinky reputation?" An Mei laughed.
Li Yu was stunned by her words. From the first day, she started to work here, she knew that An Mei had the heart to gossip about others. But, she never thought that this girl would be so stupid.
How can someone be stupid to gossip about their employer so bravely and with no sense?
By gossiping about Chen Ziyue, An Mei was digging her own grave. Hence, Li Yu quickly decided in her heart to stay as far away from this woman as possible, in order not to get into any trouble because of her. She didn't want to get implicated by staying around a fool.
Ignoring An Mei, Li Yu busied herself with cooking for her employer. When An Mei saw this, anger flashed through her eyes, and the corner of her lips curled into a small mocking sneer. Yet, she didn't stop gossiping about Chen Ziyue. She continued to speak, not caring whether Li Yu was paying attention to her or not.
"Li Yu, to be honest, I don't think you should be so scared of Chen Ziyue. So, what if she is a rich woman with a big background? In the end, didn't she choose to sleep with a businessman to make her career more successful?"
"Unlike my Princess Yunnan, who worked hard for her success, Chen Ziyue is simply a characterless woman who sells her body to reach the top. It's not her doing us a favor by giving us this job, but the other way around. We are doing her a favor by working for her, despite her stinky reputation."
