Chapter 17: Results

"He did it again! That means he failed!" Captain Li celebrated. He checked the tablet and all the valves glowed red, indicating that he was not able to overcome adversity.

He looked to Amus and could see a serious look finally disperse over his face.

He chuckled at his dumb expression with the only thing stopping him from continuing was Murray. He ultimately had the final say in disposing of Junya, but he had no doubt he would kill him.

Mockingly, Captain Li sighed, "Well it truly pains me to know that he failed but for the protection of the Nation we have to do what's right. This only shows that he is not willing to fight for us and his beliefs lie elsewhere.

It's sad to say that he will not be a part of our nation."

The room remained silent until Murray walked over to Troy. "Hand me the scenarios that you chose to put him through".

Troy handed him books that detailed how to create the scenario.

"This is odd, I thought it was going to be one of the civilian scenarios. I found it weird that he could feel that much sorrow and anger based on his valve readings from something so simple.

Who chose these?" Murray demanded.

Troy reacted by pointing to Captain Li.

He pushed his glasses up his nose to get a better look at him, "Captain Li why did you feel it necessary to use these high-level scenarios. Do you know it can have a lasting effect on his psyche if he cannot decipher that it was just a fabricated reality?"

"We- yes but I just thought- I was sure he was a traitor," Captain Li spoke the first excuse that came to his mind. His previous superior ego crumbled under Murray's intensity.

"I find this quite annoying because he actually passed one of your scenarios. Even though it was meant to make him fail" Murray said inquisitively. "Where does that leave him?"

"Well..I.. uh" Captain Li was at a loss for words.

"Never let this happen again. It will destroy your credibility, I will definitely notify the B.M.A of this situation and let them deal with you" Murray looked to Amus.

"In light of his mother's heroism and this blatant sabotage, I will give him citizenship. You will get his ID and papers in 5 minutes. As for accommodation, he will be boarding at GCMAU as per request, however, it's required that you find someone who can properly train him to keep those intense emotions of his at bay. If he's blinded with emotion and lets this blessing of his control him, death will come faster and those around him will suffer, when that time comes we can't honour your wishes anymore"

"Fair enough," Amus nodded.

"Have a nice day," Murray said with a quick smile before leaving the area.

The room was silent as his footsteps faded away, but Captain Li was fuming with rage at his blunder. He hated to see that Amus could seem to predict the outcome of everything. This only balled the deep-rooted hatred he had for Amus tighter.

Amus ignored him and instead spoke to Troy, "Send him to Alice for me then we can catch up later, tell her I'll owe her one."

Troy simply shrugged because Amus was already gone before he could hear his reply. He immediately brought in some medics to check if Junya was fine. Before calling a contact on his phone and a woman picked up.

During Junya's testing. The City of Guram - one of the 4 Major cities within the nation – had a hot headline take over the scene.

[Amus returns to Guram]

This was the headline for most Major new outlets. People were interested in Amus not because of his heroic deeds but because he was the first noted person to live after killing not one but 3 Military officials.

His story was covered in great detail, despite it being 2 years ago, the population remembered it as if it was yesterday.

Though Amus was a criminal in the eyes of some, the majority glorified him some even looked up to him in admiration and his strength. His mysterious appearance and his stoic expression melted the hearts of women and envy in the eyes of men.

As Captain Li glossed over the articles his old wounds ached from the lack of professionalism.

"How could those idiots praise someone like him, It absolutely preposterous!"

He wasn't a Christian but he prayed and hoped for danger to befall him. Worse yet, the Captain had been having good luck recently and believed that Amus must have died during his mysterious disappearance.

However, his life came crumbling down when he saw Amus in the tunnel.

"Why, why did he have to come back on my boy's birthday" Captain Li gripped the newspaper in seething anger.

"You killed my boy and you dared to come back on his birthday, Are you mocking me!"

Captain Li slammed his fists against his desk, causing the lights to flicker above. 'Years of therapy to overcome my grief all to come undone once I saw your blasted face again'

"All for some woman you know nothing about!"

He emptied some pills from his pockets and poured something strong to drink, in a quick motion he threw them into his mouth and gulped down his alcohol before pouring another glass then took a sip, sitting back in his chair with a sigh.

"It's fine, If you can kill all you want then why can't I"

Captain Li pulled a file from under some notes and smiled menacingly. "Junya Wotanbe, this will be much easier since you aren't from the Apex Family. It will be entertaining, to say the least, but I will take my time with my revenge. Soon I'll have your head on a stake as a peace offering for my son"
