Chapter 3: Endless Possibility

Nakami picked up his phone and opened the Utilities folder, staring at the icons for Voice Memos, Compass, Measure, and Calculator. He mumbled to himself, "I wonder what kind of magic this phone of mine can do."

As he opened the Voice Memos app, he tapped the record button and said, "Hmm, testing," several times. He then played it back to listen to the recording.

Satisfied with his recording, Nakami moved on to the Compass app. The phone vibrated as it detected the magnetic field and the compass needle spun to point north. Apparently, he didn't know how to use the compass, so he decided to learn how to use it as soon as possible.

As Nakami tried to use the Measure app, a notification from YouTube caught his eye. He realized that the measuring apps were not useful for him since he didn't care about specific measurements of the tools as long as they were functional.

"Oh, there's a notification? How did I miss it before? Did it just appear or did I overlook it?"

He opened it and see, "Congratulations! You have unlocked the [First Fire] achievement. Rewarded with 5E."

He wondered what the 'E' could mean.

"Could it be energy?" he thought to himself.

Excited to explore this new feature, he quickly opened the Memos app and started write his thoughts. He guessed that 'E' would be something that he can use later on, it was pointless for him to care too much about it for the time being.

Nakami realised he could scrolled through the achievements page, he was so surprised to see that [First Fire] wasnt his first achievements unlocked.

As he scrolled further down, he came a title. It read "Achievement Unlocked - [Video Junkie]".

Surprised, Nakami thought to himself, "Why didn't I notice there was something like this yesterday, is it just appear out of nowhere?".

Nakami's curiosity led him to explore the achievements page and he discovered another unlocked achievement called [Tool Time]. It showed that he had completed four out of five requirements for that goal. Then, he remembered his previous successes in making basic tools like a stone knife, axe, hand drill, and wooden spear.

With determination and quick reflexes, Nakami set out to craft his fifth survival tool: the bird bola. He went deep into the jungle to find the perfect vine to use as the string for this tool. In mere moments, his hands had woven the vine into a sturdy cord, to which he expertly tied three stones, each one representing a point of the bola.

As he held his new creation in his hands, he was suddenly overtaken by a feeling of excitement as the notification of his [Tool Time] achievement has been unlocked.

"So, everytime I unlock an achievement, I would get 5E huh"

While playing with his newly made bola, Nakami's thumb accidentally pressed the achievements page for a moment. Then, the [Tool Time] achievement popped up, revealing a pleasant surprise. Unlocking the achievement made him a better tool-maker and he now has an easier time mastering the tools he creates.

Nakami was eager to see the perk of his other achievements. Upon checking the list, he was pleasantly surprised to find two key achievements that would greatly enhance his survival skills:

[Video Maniac] - This achievement was a result of Nakami's dedication to learning from videos. With this achievement, he could now absorb information from videos 5 times faster, allowing him to quickly pick up new skills and knowledge.

[First Fire] - Fire was a critical aspect of survival, and this achievement would help Nakami improve his efficiency with fire-related technology by 5%. Whether he was starting a fire for warmth, cooking food, or using it as a tool, this achievement would make his life in the jungle much easier.

Though he was unaware of the exact time, it was still dark outside and venturing outside at this hour would be dangerous. Therefore, he chose to spend the rest of the night improving the quantity and quality of his tools.

Nakami gazed proudly at his collection of tools, now doubled in number. He now had a sturdy stone axe and a set of stone knives. His wooden spear count had risen to three, and he had planted thirty wooden spikes around his hut for use as barricades or traps. All of his tools were of much higher quality than before, thanks to the [Tool Time] achievement he had unlocked.

"Wow, these tools are indeed better than before," he marveled.

"The [Tool Time] achievement has truly been a game-changer. I can now craft tools with ease, and they're sturdier than ever."

Suddenly..

Nakami's stomach rumbled loudly, interrupting his thoughts.

"Urgh, I guess I'm hungrier than I thought," he said to himself.

Recognizing he hadn't eaten since arriving in this unfamiliar place, Nakami decided it was time to search for food.

As dawn arrived and it was safe to go outside, Nakami took his stone knife, wooden spikes, and wooden spear. He planned to use the spikes as markers to help him find his way back to his hut, as he was still learning to use a compass. By leaving markers, he was sure he wouldn't get lost while searching for food.

Nakami discovered from watching videos that the shoreline offered an abundance of food sources. He had taken note that clams, mussels, crabs, and fish were among the most readily available choices.

Nakami's journey to the shoreline took about 30 minutes, and although he felt confident he could find his way back to the hut without markers, he thought it would be best to be cautious and set markers just in case he got lost.

Based on his research, Nakami learned that he shouldn't venture too far from his hut as it may be vulnerable to damage if left unattended. The hut was not sturdy enough, and a heavy rain could easily destroy it.

Today was the first day that Nakami had gone without speaking to anyone, and it made him feel uneasy. Despite his tendency to isolate himself in his previous life, he still engaged in small talk with a select few individuals. It was tolerable.

However, the soreness in his muscles was the only thing bothering him now. He hadn't been physically active in years, ever since he quit shortly after graduating from university.
