Chapter 29: Black Katana

Nakami sat down at the dinner table with everyone except for the two girls he hadn't met yet. The boys from the mining trip were there too, and the atmosphere was lively and fun. Nakami felt a warmth in his heart that he hadn't felt in a long time.

"Damn, never knew it could be this fun." thought Nakami as Wenwen and Alice playfully fought over sitting next to him.

He used to avoid going out and partying with his colleagues, always finding an excuse not to join in. The only times he would attend were the mandatory Christmas and New Year's parties. But now, he realized the joy of sharing a meal with others..

Some new people have expressed interest in joining the class that Nakami is teaching for Sarah and Alice. To accommodate the new students, Nakami has decided to teach something new that is relevant to everyone in the class. The topic will be general in nature to ensure that all students can follow along.

It seems like after Nakami had finished teaching the class, he decided to record a video with Sarah and Alice, so the other students were asked to leave the classroom. However, Wenwen expressed her interest in joining the skit, which Nakami allowed.

At this point, Alice appeared unhappy for some reason, while Sarah was playing with her Legos, indicating that it wasn't time to start recording yet. When Nakami inquired about Alice's unhappiness, she refused to say anything and acted as usual.

Nakami and the girls finished the recording an hour later and headed home. After uploading the video, Nakami glanced at the clock in his room, which read 10:30 PM. It was still early enough for him to consider going on a wolf raid.

Feeling a sense of restlessness, he rummaged through his explosives stash, using the materials he had mined earlier to craft more grenades and cannon balls.

He upgraded some of the cannon and mortar to make them easier to use by others.

As Nakami gazed skyward, he sensed the wind gaining strength and noticed the clouds moving quickly. A rainstorm seemed imminent. He reached out his hand to feel the wind's force and made a decision to secure most of the recently made explosives in the vault for safety.

Nakami pondered aloud.

"Maybe I shouldn't go out hunting for the wolves today." He was still mulling over whether or not to attack the wolves tonight, considering the impact of the weather.

"I guess I should wait until 12 first.."

As Nakami was pondering whether to go out hunting the wolves, the ground suddenly began to shake, and the distant sounds of wolves howling could be heard.

The sounds grew louder and the shaking grew stronger until most of the alarms outside were triggered, indicating that the werewolves were on the move towards the base.

Rushing to the walls, Nakami was met with a sight that made his blood run cold. Hundreds of werewolves were marching towards the base, their eyes glowing in the darkness. The front gate was disconnected by the drawbridge and a trench, but would it be enough to keep them out?

Alice and Sarah eagerly greeted Nakami as they climbed up the walls. The others were on their way, but Nakami wasted no time in delegating tasks. He ordered Alice to retrieve explosives from the vault using his truck, and called for Wenwen and the boys to assist her.

Sarah expressed her desire to join the defense, armed with her trusty crossbow and slingshot. Nakami couldn't resist her plea, despite his reservations.

As the werewolf army drew closer, anxiety spread throughout the base. But Nakami remained calm, especially when he saw Abe's truck full of explosives approaching. Alice, who didn't know how to drive, was seated next to him.

Nakami quickly loaded the cannon and began firing. Soon, Abe, Robert, and Adam joined in the fight, bolstering Nakami's defense.

"Boommmm kaboooooom.." the sounds of explosive echoing through the night.

The werewolf army kept pushing forward, undeterred by the bombardment. The towering alpha werewolf led the charge, with claws longer and sharper than any of the others. Every so often, it let out a bone-chilling howl to rally its troops. They marched in a straight line towards the front gate, heedless of the disconnected drawbridge and treacherous trenches.

The explosives did some damage, taking out hundreds of werewolves, but it was a drop in the bucket. The relentless army kept coming, some even sacrificing themselves to make crude bridges out of their fallen comrades. Nakami and his allies knew they had to come up with a new strategy, or they would be overrun by the ferocious horde.

"Boss, we're running low on explosives and they're getting closer. What's the plan?" Abe asked as he refilled the cannon.

He noticed the wolves were filling the trenches, creating makeshift bridges for their comrades to cross.

Alice and Wenwen's hearts raced as they watched the wolves inch closer to the gate. Nakami knew the explosives he had on hand wouldn't be enough to fully annihilate the army, so he hastily crafted more with his skill. With the truck now filled to the brim with explosive defenses, they could hold their own against the marching army.

The barrage of bombs continued relentlessly, preventing the army from entering the gate. Finally, less than 200 wolves remained, and they were pounding at the front gate with their bare hands. A few tried to climb the wall but failed miserably since it had been designed to be unclimbable.

Nakami instructed the others to stop using explosives, warning that they might inadvertently damage the gate and give the wolves an advantage. Instead, they should switch to bows and slingshots to keep the remaining wolves at bay.

Nakami told them he would be going to lure them away from the gate. He wore his typical combat suits and slowly use the rope going down the walls on the others side were wolves didnt attack. The girls were worried about his safety as they watched him slowly going down.

Nakami simply say that in calm tone to Wenwen and Alice.

"Its fine, if I could win. I would just ran back. Use this rope later to grab me later, okay?"

As Nakami lured the werewolves away from the gate, their numbers began to lessening. Suddenly, the werewolf leader appeared and commanded the army to chase him. Nakami's vision showed a wall of wolves moving toward him, and the ground shook with their footsteps. Despite feeling a little bit nervous Nakami took a deep breath and calmly threw more grenades at them while running.

"Come on doggos! *woof woof* Bark so much, but can't even get any of us!" he taunted as he ran, trying to provoke the wolves to keep following him.

His heart racing, Nakami knew that he had to keep going if he wanted to lead the werewolves far enough away from the gate while reducing their number.

After a while, only nine werewolves were left, including their leader. Nakami had led them toward the direction of the forest and now they were at the river site where he had saved the remaining survivors before. He stopped running because he had run out of grenades, and his body was aching for some swordplay.

The werewolves slowly surrounded him and stood there because their leader seemed to want to say something to Nakami.

"Pathetic little invader. Do you think your kind could survive on this island? Ah, I remember the taste of your kind. Disgustingly weak..." The werewolf leader spoke with his mouth, but his speech wasn't very clear. However, Nakami could anticipate what the werewolf was trying to say.

"Woof woof woof? You forgot how to bark now? Just stop talking. It's much better for you to keep on barking woof woof," Nakami taunted the werewolves to their faces.

The moment he had attacked them last night, there was no room for talking. There would only be one winner, and that would be the one who stayed alive after this.

Nakami upgraded his sword by combining some of the strongest metals with his transmutation skills, after learning through trial and error that the strongest metal didn't necessarily make the best sword.

He used to use a one-handed sword, but now he has created a black katana, a double-handed sword with a black blade and gray handle, due to the unique metals he used. The 80 cm sword would always been kept in a polished wood scabbard that he wears at his waist.
