Chapter 2: Reincarnation

The year 1945, Earth.

This was the age of chaos. Planet Earth was plunged into a global war, fought between the Allied Nations and their rival, the Axis powers. So far more than thirty nations across the world were involved in this war. More than a hundred million personnel participated directly or indirectly in this war.

Major Nations invested their entire economic, industrial, and scientific resources behind the war. The deadliest of the conflicts in human history. People were dying as days passed, and the death toll had long exceeded seventy million, with the majority of them being civilians. Cities were plundered, women were raped, and people were killed due to starvation. Tens of millions of people died due to genocides and the Holocaust.

One such nation was India. Great Britain controlled more than six hundred autonomous princely states in India, although opinions regarding war were divided as Viceroy Linlithgow declared India at war with Germany despite the lack of consultation with Indian political parties.

One of the most influential political parties, the Indian National Congress, demanded independence before it would help Britain, but London refused and instead imprisoned thousands of the nation's leaders.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of leader Subhash Chandra Bose, Japan had set up an army of Indian POWs called the Indian National Army to fight against the British. Although Indian participation in the Allied campaign remained strong, the industrial and military assistance of India proved to be a major assistance against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

In fact, more than two hundred and fifty million Indian troops were now deployed all over the globe fighting the Axis forces.

The State of Burma had just been captured by Imperial Japan with the help of the Indian National Army. But now the Allies were about to launch another attack in an attempt to recapture it. The Second Division of the INA was tasked with the defense of Irrawaddy, which was the lowest-lying region, and the adjoining areas around Nangyu. It was tasked with opposing the 7th Indian Division led by General Messervy.

But alas things did not go as planned, when the battle began the division was almost obliterated fighting the tanks with hand grenades and bottles of petrol. Many INA soldiers realized that they were in a hopeless situation, some of them even fled.

One of these fleeing soldiers was soon lost, without any food or water, he traveled and soon stumbled across an ancient valley.

The valley was a bit different.

As he traveled further in the valley, at some point he seemed to have entered into a different aspect of space. The valley had developed its own ecosystem. There were flocks of birds flying, one could even see animals like deer and rabbits. The further he went the more surprised he was. He had never seen anything like this. Walking ahead his gaze landed on the pond in the front.

His thirst which had somewhat subsided due to the scenery came rushing back. Foregoing all precautions he ran towards the pond, gulping a chunk of water from the pond. Feeling satisfied he washed his face and lay down on the grass.

And then he was taken aback. Beside the pond at a certain distance was a huge statue of a human with long hair seated in a lotus position. Rays of sunlight passed through the valley descending on the statue.

He immediately started kowtowing and shouting.

"Mahadev."

According to Hindu mythology, the statue seemed to be that of the God Shiva; the Destroyer. The stray soldier was full of vigor and confidence after this discovery. Turning around he found another statue at a distance. But this time he could only identify the head of the bull. The bull was considered the mount of the God Shiva. Surprisingly there were many trees that bore fruits for him to eat. He spent his days here feeling peaceful and calm.

Days went past, and on one fine day, he found an opening in this statue. As the saying went, ignorance is bliss. He ventured into the opening chanting the name of God Shiva.

Inside he stumbled upon a purple-colored pearl. Somehow he was attracted to the pearl. Without any thought, he pocketed the pearl and returned back.

After a certain amount of time, he started craving human interaction. This solitude started eating him from the inside. Thus he decided to retrace his way back.

Tracing his way back he stumbled upon a regiment of British soldiers, who saw him. Without any prior warning, he was shot down. It was then---

Suddenly.

Time stopped.

Everything went stationary.

The violet pearl was still inside his pocket. Surprisingly at this moment, it floated on its own as it neared his forehead. By this time, he was on his last breath.

Leaving behind a rippling trail, the pearl entered his body and latched itself to his hindbrain.

The last of the man's life seemed to be sucked by the pearl and he was dead.

Inside the body of the dead man which now lay on the ground.

Microscopic tendrils detached themselves from the pearl, attaching themselves to the brain, these tendrils then further divided into smaller ones that connected to the neurons present in the brain. Considering the vast number of neurons present in the brain, the process took some time.

When the last of these tendrils connected--

A blast of current ran through the body. The source of this current was the pearl. It started pumping unknown signals through the brain, which were later sent to the different parts of the brain.

Along with short bursts of thumping sound that seemed like someone beating the drum, the dead heart started beating.

{Haaah}

With the heart now beating, the dead body took another breath of air, filling up its lungs.

Blood started flowing, the cells were getting rejuvenated, and organs were starting to function.

The bullets inside the body were gently being pushed out. The wounds started to heal rapidly.

A faint sizzling could be heard followed by a brief smoke as sweat and other unknown materials were being released by the body.

Then it happened--

As if someone had cracked open the sky, the eyes of the body opened.
