Chapter 242: The Power Of Gravity #242

Beast Boy couldn't help but sigh in relief as the insectoid machines took care of the mercenaries and freed him from the strange net that inhibited his powers.

He didn't know where the machines came from or who they belonged to, but it didn't matter. Beast Boy was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially if it happened to be there to help him out of a sticky situation.

However, Beast Boy's relieved expression instantly soured as he heard Gizmo laughing at the top of his lungs. "You won't get away that easily," The mad scientist said as he retrieved what seemed to be a remote control device from his pocket. deafening

Gizmo pressed several buttons, and the unmistakable sound of the rocket thrusters echoed in the area as a gigantic figure appeared on the horizon before anyone could react.

The figure rapidly approached, slowly revealing its form. It was a giant robot that seemed to be made entirely of junk, with various mismatched, rusty metallic parts protruding all over its body.

Still, despite the machine's less-than-aesthetic appearance, it flew at an incredible speed and fluidly moved as it landed behind Gizmo's back, stirring the dust.

"It's just one thing after the other with this guy..." Beast Boy indignantly said as he scratched his head in exasperation. "I don't suppose you got a big brother you could call somewhere?" He added, bitterly chuckling as he turned to the closest insectoid machine.

Much to his surprise, the machine made a strange screeching noise and moved toward Gizmo's giant robot, followed by the other insectoid automatons.

The plates covering the insectoid machines began rapidly changing as they climbed on top of each other, emitting electrical arks as they joined together, forming a giant robot that didn't pale when Beast Boy compared it to Gizmo's automaton.

The Sentry Titan immediately acted as its armor plates opened, revealing countless weapons of all calibers, and opened fire, releasing bullets, rockets, and energy projectiles at the junk robot.

However, the junk robot was deceptively agile. It immediately flew into the air, dodging all projectiles. "That's an impressive machine, but we have ariel superiority!" Gizmo said with a loud laugh, only to freeze as the Sentry Titan emitted a purple light and jumped high into the air.

Even Beast Boy, who was a fair distance away from the Sentry Titan, froze as he felt the gravity shift, causing him to float briefly in the air and almost lose his balance when it returned to normal.

His expression grew even more shocked as the Sentry Titan tackled the Junk Robot in the air and slammed him into the ground. It remained afloat for a second before emitting another purple light and dove feet first toward the grounded automaton.

The Junk Robot's metallic body screeched as it tried to get up, but the gravity seemed to shift around, pinning it in place. Ultimately it couldn't escape and took the brunt of the Sentry Titan's considerable weight before exploding into countless pieces.

"That's so cool, dude!" Beast Boy said, his eyes glinting in enthusiasm as he fist-pumped the air. His expression grew even more excited as he watched the Sentry Titan turn back into many small insectoid machines that promptly lunged at Gizmo and subdued him.

"Cyborg would be so jealous," Beast Boy said, chuckling as one of the insectoid machines approached him, causing him to stop laughing as he gave it a confused look.

"Follow the machines. They'll take you to your friends," The machines said in a shrill robotic voice, causing Beast Boy's eyes to widen as he gave it a once over.

"Somehow, this is even more cool..."

...

"I found the Society's base," I said, opening my eyes as I turned to Nightwing to get his attention as he was chatting with Troia and Virgil while they rested.

"What are we waiting for, then? Let's move," Deathstroke interjected before Nightwing could speak, to which the latter gave me a weird look, but said nothing.

"We're waiting for Beast Boy," I replied with a shrug as I turned to the mercenary. "I found him fighting a bunch of the Society's goons. He's on his way right now," I added, gesturing to the side.

"There's no need to wait for the brat. We've wasted enough time already," Deathstroke said as he firmly shook his head and frowned in disapproval at my words.

"There's plenty of reason..." I replied as I met the mercenary's gaze. "The way I see it, none of you is in any condition to take on Jericho," I added, shrugging my shoulders.

"Ultimately, I'll have to take him down myself, and if things go south, I need one or two people to be able to watch my back," I concluded in a matter-of-fact tone, crossing my arms.

"Fair enough..." Deathstroke said after a brief pause as he tried to stare me down and failed. "We'll do things your way, kid," He added, promptly turning around and walking away without waiting for a reply.

"That's the first time I've seen Deathstroke back off. I'm impressed..." Nightwing said as he approached me, alternating his gaze between the mercenary and myself.

"He's not scared of me, if that's what you mean," I said, smiling as I shook my head. "He was testing me to see if I could handle being in charge," I added, giving him a meaningful look.

"He'd probably like to lead the charge, but he knows you and Troia won't listen to him, even when you should," I said with a chuckle, to which Nightwing could only frown.

"Following you're lead brought him here, and Troia doesn't strike me as a leader, so that only leaves Static and me," I concluded with a sigh as I gestured towards Static (Virgil), who was leaning on a rock with a dumb look on his face as he tried to hit on Troia.

"Kind of rude, but fair, I guess," Nightwing said with a sigh as he shook his head. "I'm more used to working in Gotham and Bludhaven. Whacky magic dimensions aren't exactly my cup of tea," he added, bitterly chuckling as he did.

"Be that as it may, get ready to move soon. It wouldn't take long before my machines bring Beast Boy here," I said with a nod, dropping the subject, to which Nightwing nodded and headed straight towards Troia and Static.

...

It didn't take long for Beast Boy to show up, accompanied by an army of Sentry Spiders and Drones, and he immediately ran towards Nightwing and the other heroes to greet them.

I wasn't in a hurry since I found out Jericho and the Society's goons still needed time to prepare before going with whatever ritual they wanted to perform, so I gave them their space.

Still, Beast Boy was brief, and his upbeat mood at meeting his friends instantly shifted into caution as he noticed Deathstroke and me. Though, he seemed wary of the mercenary.

Nightwing noticed Beast Boy's reaction and immediately filled him in on the details. Although he didn't seem too pleased at the prospect of working with Deathstroke, he didn't object.

"Hey, those robots are yours, am I right? Thanks for the help," Beast Boy said as he approached me with a smile, pointing at one of the Sentry Spiders clumsily dragging its weight around as it walked in circles.

I nodded and returned the smile.

"My name is Garfield Logan, by the way. I go by Changling or Beast Boy, but my friends call me Gar," He added as he extended his hand toward me, asking for a handshake.

"Grayson Whitlock, but Gray is fine," I replied as I shook Beast Boy's hand, and he merely nodded. "Is everyone ready to move?" I asked as I let go of his hand and inspected everyone's faces.

No one said anything, and they merely nodded. "Good, then let's get a move on," I said as I turned away from everyone and started walking north, where I knew Jericho and the Society's goons had their base.

...

"You... you have to stop this madness..." Said a pale woman with a white hood covering her face, her expression bitter as she lay on the ground, defeated and utterly helpless.

"This isn't who you are! You were all once good people! It's Trigon's demonic influence that's corrupting your hearts!" She pleaded, her expression desperate as she looked Jericho in the eyes, speaking to the countless Azarathain spirits possessing his body.

"Silence, harlot!" Jericho replied with a sneer, his voice sounding inhuman, almost as if countless people spoke at the time. "Had it not been for you and your demonic daughter, Trigon would have never brought us so low," He added, his expression twisting into a rage.

"Soon, we will have new bodies. Then you, your daughter, and Trigon shall feel the righteous wrath of Azarath!"
