Chapter 6: (VI) The First Day Pt. 1/2
Ava was slightly disturbed from her sleep as Isaac carefully lifted her off his lap and placed her next to him, standing up and stretching once more. He pulled up the daily quests screen and tried to do a push-up.
His initial attempt was sloppy and his form fell apart halfway through and nothing happened. He checked the quest once again and still reflected no change in the progress: [0/100].
He attempted a few more times before his form was good enough and he was able to increase the progress by one.
He performed a few more tests and was able to plank for 30 seconds and was able to confirm that walking or jogging did not progress toward the running quest.
Breathing heavily, Isaac sat down with one of his legs crossed under him with his other knee raised, resting his elbow against it and staring at the quest screen.
'I did five push-ups, but only one was good enough... This might be harder than I thought...' He pondered popping another berry into his mouth. Ava had stirred and eaten one of the pellets and a berry before approaching her trainer.
Isaac inspected Ava, looking at her currently known moves. "Tackle, Growl, Tail Whip... Those are probably her level-up moves." He said to himself and before he knew it, he was having a full-blown animated conversation with himself, moving his arms around and shifting his weight occasionally.
"Double Kick, does Eevee learn that normally?"
"No... I don't think so, maybe it's an egg move?"
"It could be, Wish certainly is one, but it's not the only way for Eevee to learn Wish is it?"
"Actually, I think it is! So innate should be egg moves..."
Isaac shook his head and leaned forward, resting against his knees as he smiled at the small fox, "Ava, let's test out your moves!" He said cheerfully and smiled as the small pokemon began to excitedly jump up and down quickly.
"Great!" He exclaimed and threw his finger out, pointing towards a nearby tree, "Use Tackle!"
"Vee!" Ava responded understanding the command, as a faint white light surrounded her as she charged forward and rammed the trunk with her shoulder and leaped off the tree, and landed near her starting position by Isaac.
"Again!" Isaac shouted as he crossed his arm across his body and covered his mouth with his other hand and observed Ava. He watched as she repeated the process nine more times and noticed a small window appear on his visor.
『Tackle [U] (10/???)』
He noticed that the skill would not immediately activate as it did during the games or anime, 'This is really important!' He thought to himself, 'I wonder what will happen once it improves...'
After testing each skill a few times and using them so they all increased to (25/???) and he had half completed training with a partnered pokemon for 1 hour.
He nodded feeling more confident and grabbed the rest of the berries and pokéfood and stored them in his bag before nodding his head away from the cave as Ava came prancing forward following alongside him.
The two traversed the forest as they made their way to the lake from the night before. Both drank some of the refreshing water and Isaac collected some more berries while Ava gluttonously ate as much low-lying fruit as she could find.
"It's strange..." Isaac said aloud as Ava turned and looked at him as if to reply 'What's strange?'
"I haven't seen a single pokémon besides you since I arrived... I wonder where they all are? I thought there would be a lot more pokémon roaming around!" The man complained as they continued to walk around the lake.
He began running, prompting Ava to chase after him as he pushed himself to run as fast as he could. As he reached the other edge of the lake, he noticed some small pokemon drinking from the lakeside.
He quickly ducked behind a berry bush and looked out and noticed the group of small, quadrupedal, mammalian pokémon. Some were pinkish-purple with darker patches. They had large, spiny ears with teal insides, oversized front teeth, and red eyes. Their backs were covered with three lines of large spines and the center line of spines was taller than the other two. Finally, they had a long, pointed horn on their forehead. There was another variant of the pokémon with a smaller frontal horn and they were light blue with several darker blue spots, rather than pinkish-purple.
"Oooh, common be good, be good! I'd love to add you to the team!" He whispered, pulling down his visor, and began examining all of the wild Nidoran. He saw plenty of different potentials amongst the male and female Nidoran: [Cooper], [Bronze], and [Iron] but not a single [Silver] that matched his Eevee's potential.
'Hmm... It seems that a pokémon's potential follows a rather straightforward ranking process, I wonder what impact it has on the growth of a pokemon...' He thought.
He looked through their abilities but he wasn't too interested in either [Poison Point] or [Rivalry]. Both had their pros and cons, but Isaac knew that the less-than-optimal [Hustle] would evolve into the overwhelming [Sheer Force], and both Nidoking and Nidoqueen both were more than capable of taking advantage of it.

Not a single one of the pokémon had anything other than normal moves. When comparing them against Ava Isaac couldn't help but be elated by how good his starter was.
Through the brush behind the group of Nidoran, two came forth that were slightly larger than the rest came out and the group separated, making room for what he assumed to be the 'King' and 'Queen' of the small herd to approach the lake. Isaac inspected both and smiled happily at the information he saw on his visor.

'What?!? They're both [Hustle] and both have one innate move and the male Nidoran has a hidden move!' Isaac thought to himself, 'Their natures aren't optimal and their stats seem a little lackluster compared to Ava but they're the best I've seen of the bunch!'
The Steel potential was just below Ava's Silver potential and a pokémon's potential could increase when evolving… Not that Isaac knew this information.
"They're both level seven… I'll need to train Ava and raise her levels a few times before I attempt to add these guys to my team…" Isaac muttered to himself before backing away quietly, "I'll train nearby, and once I'm ready I can challenge them both and catch them!"
"Vee!! Vee!!" Ava exclaimed bouncing after her trainer. Isaac turned and put his finger to his lips and shushed her to stay quiet so they aren't discovered by the herd of Nidoran.
She chimed once more and Isaac bent over, scooping her into his arms and quickly rushing away so they weren't discovered.
Isaac and Ava roamed the forest trying to complete his Daily Quests as he discovered a Caterpie with a Copper potential at level 3.
Excited to try his first pokémon battle, he jumped from behind the bush he was hiding in and pointed his hand at the Caterpie, and yelled, "Go, Ava! Use Tackle!"
Ava jumped from the bush, landed in front of Isaac struck a triumphant pose, and began gathering white energy.
The Caterpie, dumbstruck by the obnoxious duo was too stunned to make an action and sat there until Ava charged forward hitting Caterpie and knocking it back into a tree.
"Great job Ava! Quick, follow up with another Tackle to finish it off!" Isaac yelled, too enthralled by the battle to do anything more than 'Hitting A to win!'
Caterpie struggled to raise its body from the ground and began charging a [String Shot]. Ava finished her move first and began running toward the Caterpie.
Before Ava was able to reach her foe; it unleashed a torrent of silk from its mouth, covering the Eevee in dozens of small strands that clung to the ground slowing her attack down.
She continued her charge as she slammed against Caterpie once more knocking it out. Ava picked up Caterpie by the tail in her mouth and drug it to Isaac.
Unlike in the anime and cartoons which gloss over knocking a pokémon out, the reality was that they were living creatures.
Isaac quickly came to this realization when Ava brought him her prey, excitedly wagging her tail back and forth and yipping happily as she bounced around him.
