Chapter 1: Sickly

~Beep~ ~Beep~ ~Beep~

I open my eyes and just stare at the the same white ceiling that I have grown used to by the time I was four. I sigh and with some difficulty I shimmy myself up into a sitting position. I turn to the stand next to my bed and grab the remote. With a click the t.v turns on playing some of classical music.

Setting the remote down I go over to the drawer pulling open the top cubard. I take out some manga my older brother got me. I am a avid reader because looking at the t.v too long makes me uncomfortable. I prefer chapter books but, my brother was able to convince to take up his hobby.

He used the "it has pretty art" excuse and it worked, I always appreciated art. The manga he got me is called fate which interested me. I didn't ask my brother for any explanation so I figured it had something to do with someone going against fate or something similar.

I open the manga and begin reading. I have to admit though it didn't go how I would have liked it's still a good read. "Not bad brother, not bad" I mutter to myself as I appreciate my brothers taste in stories.

I set down the manga in the cubard and take out a book I'm reading. "I'll ask brother for the rest of his collection tomorrow" I told myself as I read Elf's Ascension for the thousandth time. It wouldn't be much of a exaggeration to say that I admire the book.

It's a story about a house elf attempting to free himself from his wizard oppressors. But doing so is obviously difficult because his race is sickly, weak, and many believe inferior. Luckily, he was born with elvish light which protected him from slavery magic.

From there he worked hard to increase his power and knowledge. He then found a piece of magic from his homeland and went through a ritual. This ritual purified his body of its impurities and restrictions. This allowed him to become a full blooded elf and obtain enough power to have an effect on the world. Nature itself bowed to him rectifying him as the King of Elves.

That was the simplification of the first to last volume and now the author is working on a sequel. Even though the story is not for the faint of heart and many would call the main character a villain. I still enjoyed the story because with is a direct parallel to my life and how I wish to change it.

My name is Vela manoth, and I have always been sick. I didn't get infected by a disease or some special circumstance made me this way. I was just born unlucky with a genetic defect that made me incredibly weak. The issue was highly treatable because the issue is quite common. But, I had it sense I was a baby and no one noticed until I was three.

By then though it was too late because the disease has taken root and removing it would cripple and possibly kill me. And now the only reason I'm even suffering through this is so that my family won't have to suffer. They already have lost one child and they don't want to lose another.

My parents are probably either working to prolong my life or find a way to help me. I can only sigh at their desperation and perk up at the thought of my brother. He makes this life bearable by accepting my death is inevitable and just spending as much time with me as he can.

I accepted my death long ago and just tried to have as much fun as possible and I like to think I did. I got to go to amazing places and see many beautiful things. I don't know why but, seeing something and commuting it to memory has always been a fun thing for me. Especially art, every time I looked at a painting it felt like I knew the artist more then themself.

Or that might be my Chūnibyō coming out I giggle at those thought as I lie down. I felt tired all of a sudden, I felt cold and warm at the same time. It was a weird welcoming, but unwelcoming feeling. I liked it and I'd t like it, I accepted it and didn't want to accept it.

"So this is how death feels" I mutter my last breath
