Chapter 14: 14: Quirk Apprehension Test

"If you're here to socialize, then get out. This is..." said the man in a sleeping bag, sucking on a juice. He then continued, "the Hero Course. Now, get it. I'm going to start the class."
Yusuke, hearing this, thought silently, 'But, if you think about it, socializing is important to build some relations and connections between future Heroes...'
The caterpillar man got out of his bag and walked in front of the murmuring students. The homeless-looking man was silent, just staring at the students intensely.
...
"It took ten seconds for you to quiet down. Time is a precious resource. You lot aren't rational, are you?" the man told them.
Yusuke sighed acceptingly when he saw the seats all filled up. That meant that Mina is not in Class 1-A. It seems like Sero, Sugar guy, and the ball-haired perv were all replaced by green mohawk, Sen Kaibara, and him. Mina and Hagakure on the other hand were replaced by Yui Kodai and the vine-haired girl.
[A/N: This was taken from Yusuke's perspective. I know their names... Totally! ( •̀ - •́ )]
"I'm Shota Aizawa, your homeroom teacher. Pleased to meet you all." the man introduced in a monotone voice. He then continued, "Before anything else, put on your gym clothes and head to the grounds."
...
After changing into their gym clothes...
"Good. You all got here quickly. Now, the reason I called you here is to... conduct a Quirk Apprehension Test." Aizawa informed them.
"Eh? But sensei, what about the entrance ceremony or the guidance sessions?!" someone asked.
"No need to waste time on that if you all want to become Heroes," he responded.
"A-alright..."
"The test will contain eight exercises; Softball Throwing, Standing Long Jump, 50-meter Dash, Endurance Running, Grip Strength, Repeated Side Steps, Upper Body Training, and lastly, Seated Toe Touch."
After informing them, he called out Bakugo.
"How far could you throw in Middle School?"
"Fifty-seven meters..." the student answered.
"Great. Now try it with your quirk. You can do anything as long as you don't leave the circle. Give it all you've got."
The teen grinned and got ready to throw the ball.
"DIEE!!!" he shouted, and just as it was about to leave his hand, he activated his quirk and an explosion made it reach a far distance.
"It's important for you all to know your limits. That's the first rational step to figuring out what kind of Heroes you're going to be." Aizawa told them, holding out a device that showed, 705.2 meters.
"Awesome!"
"Seriously?! 705 meters?!"
"This is going to be fun!"
Aizawa gave a little scoff and told them in an intense tone, "Awesome?... Fun, you say? You're hoping to become Heroes after Three Years, and you think it'll be all fun and games?"
'Nope. It's also about getting stronger!... Right?' Yusuke thought proudly.
"Alright then. The one with the lowest total score will be judged potential-less and will be expelled."
"Whattt?!!" the whole class shouted.
"Welcome to... U.A. High!" Aizawa exclaimed with a shit-eating grin, raising his hair.
"If you all think that's unfair... Natural Disasters, Rampaging Villains, and Calamities are right around the corner. I say Japan is full of unfairness. Heroes are the ones who correct that unfairness. That's why you must use your strength to overcome this. Give it your all. Plus Ultra."
Even though their teacher told them that his three years in U.A. wouldn't be all fun and games, Yusuke just couldn't help but give a slight smile.
"Good luck, everyone!" he shouted.
"May the Lord bless everyone here." said a vine-haired student, with her hands together.
{First Test: 50-meter Dash}
Yusuke stretched his body, getting ready to do some strenuous activity.
He looked to the side and said, "Good luck, Kaibacchi!"
"Good luck too." Sen (Quirk: Gyrate) replied, but in his mind, 'Kaibacchi?'
<Go!> said a robotic voice, and the two activated their quirks.
The wind enveloped Yusuke's body, lifting him up, before rushing forward. Sen's legs started gyrating, making him slide rapidly.
<Yusuke Yoarashi: 4.01 seconds> the device beeped when the blonde teen passed it.
<Sen Kaibara: 5.20 seconds> it beeped for the other student.
Speaking of other students, Togaru Kamakiri, [Quirk: Razor Sharp] passed the test by summoning a blade under his feet and using them as makeshift ice skates.
Ibara Shiozaki, [Quirk: Vines], was carried by a bundle of vines.
Yui Kodai, [Quirk: Size:], just ran all the way.
{Second Test: Grip Strength}
Yusuke cracked his knuckles and gripped the machine with his quirk deactivated. It showed 61 kg.
He chuckled nervously and asked Aizawa, "Sensei, hehe, can I try again? I can do it better."
Aizawa, fortunately, agreed, "Yes. But, as I said, give it your all if you don't want to be expelled.", but hearing that last part made the students tense.
After thanking his teacher, the teen then used his quirk, wrapping the handle with air, and compressing wind on the machine.
It went past 61 kg, stopping at 254 kg.
He smiled in satisfaction before moving on to the next test.
{Third Test: Standing Long Jump}
Yusuke completed it very effortlessly, by simply flying over the sandbox.
{Fourth Test: Repeated Side Steps}
Again, he passed quite easily, having the wind speed him up.
{Fifth Test: Ball Throw}
As Midoriya anxiously walked towards the circle, the blonde teen looked on with excitement.
Throwing the ball, his eyes widened in horror, when it didn't go that far.
"46 meters..."
"H-huh? I-I was trying to use it..!" the green-haired student stammered.
"I "erased" your quirk. Sigh, that entrance exam was irrational if someone like you got in."
"T-those goggles! Erasure Hero: Eraserhead!" Midoriya whispered loudly.
When Aizawa was "lecturing" Midoriya, Yusuke had other things in his mind.
'Wow... There's just one question that I'd really like to be answered... How does Aizawa-sensei's hair stand up when he uses his quirk?...' he thought in wonderment.
'Is he using some sort of product? But his hair is always unkempt, so I doubt it... Support Item? But why would he want his hair to rise when it's better if Villains don't know if he's activating his quirk...'
'Does that happen to people with eye-related quirks, or is it just him? Well, considering 'she' has an eye-related quirk and her hair doesn't rise, it must be limited to only Aizawa-sensei...'
[A/N: Mei Hatsume has an eye-related quirk, but Yusuke isn't talking about her at this moment.]
The teen was broken out of his thoughts when he saw that Aizawa stepped back, and Midoriya was given another chance to throw the ball.
Contrary to his first attempt, this one produced a gust of wind as it flew further.
"705.3 meters."
"Sensei! I... I can still move!" Midoriya exclaimed with a pained smile.
"Hah! This kid..." Aizawa voiced out with an amused grin of his own.
