Chapter 12: Chapter 12

I ran with all my might as it seemed to be the only sensible thing to do.

"Hey, stop! You don't know where you are going." He bellowed in the distance as the wind blew past me.

I can't stop, I won't stop. Let's see how he catches me now, I thought.

As I ran, I came to some kind of structure. It looked like ruins but made out of bones or a material like bones. I turned around and saw that the stranger was still some distance away which was weird. He is older than me so I would expect him to have caught up to me by now or at least closer to me.

"He looks to be a mile away. Is that possible?" I asked no one in particular as I looked around.

"Must be space distortion." I decided not finding any sensible answers to explain what was going on. Forgetting about the stranger that was my travel partner until a while ago, I turned to face the strange structure.

There seemed to be some ancient runes on the walls. But then again it could have just been cartilage if bones were really used when building this thing. I moved from what seemed to be an entrance and went through an arch, walking right through it.

I felt strange, almost like I had entered a pocket dimension the moment I went through the arch and it scared to me no end as I was right about the dimension part. One can only feel or be aware of dimensional spaces if they are familiar with space distortion theories like myself so I could tell that I had entered a dangerous and ancient space.

"Who made this dimension?" I asked myself as I studied the walls of the place that I had intruded.

The runes or writings on the walls became even more prominent the more I explored and I felt something creepy right behind me. Turning around, I saw no one and I immediately started comparing the place to any other that I had read of.

I felt like a million eyes were watching me right now. Shrugging off the feeling, I followed my gut towards the center of the structure. Now that I look around, the space seemed to have been built with a style of an ancient pagoda in mind. These few small things kept on pointing towards a scary answer that I didn't want to believe or even consider.

"Maybe it's the soul collecting pagoda." I thought with a chuckle. It couldn't be that pagoda as I didn't think that I was that unlucky. My chuckle echoed into the distance and all of a sudden it turned eerie. What if it is the soul collecting pagoda? I would be screwed!! So screwed!!

I turned at a fountain that was over flowing with blood and decided to leave the place. It was the soul collecting pagoda!!

"Did I not say a prayer as I was leaving the house today or was it when I woke up? Maybe those witches have hexed me or something." I thought as I start to hyper ventilate.

As I tried to escape with panic in my mind, I found that I was miserably lost!

"Why did enter in here?!" I shouted to myself as I found it very ridiculous that I did something like this! I should have listened to that guy. The soul collecting pagoda was impossible to escape so I had really thrown myself into some crap.

"No medicine for regret now. I can only swallow and endure. Sigh, why I am so stubborn?" I added on slightly while looking around when a certain question hit me, what was the soul collecting pagoda doing in such a place?

There were only a few options I had now. One was to sit and cry and wait for my death. Two, I could walk around aimlessly and three, I could sit and understand what exactly was going on.

All the options that I had I found useless so I decided to do two things; look for a way out while understanding what was going on. As a witch, the one thing I was sure of was my ability to read the runes around me. my memories were telling me that the answer that I was looking for, the clue to getting out, was hidden on the walls and I was going to find it even if it killed me.

"Yeah, this should be easy." I told myself as I walked towards the weird looking fountain. As it was filled with blood, it reeked and I couldn't get too close to it. Digging through my pockets, I realized a little too late that I was actually wearing a night gown. I needed something to cover me nose so I just ripped the silky material and covered my nose with it.

"I should start with here." I thought to myself as I crouched low and started my work.

The feeling of being watched didn't go away and I tried as hard as I could to block away the creepy feeling that someone was going to creep on me but it was impossible.

'Read carefully. Don't mess it up.' Muttered someone or something and I had to pretend that I hadn't heard a word.

It is common knowledge not to pay a ghost any mind as it only bugs you even more if it realizes that you can see it or hear it.

After reading for a few minutes I was frustrated.

"It doesn't make any sense! Why won't it make any sense?!" I asked no one in particular as I threw my hands up in defeat. Where was I getting it wrong?

"Read it backwards. Read it backwards."

Whatever was watching me seemed to know what to do as I personally was stuck but as I can't pay it any mind I had to be smart about it.

"Hmm, how should I do this?" I said out loud as I watch for any movement.

Almost immediately, I saw something move on the walls of the weird tomb and it confirmed my thoughts of the presence of ghosts. They seemed to come closer as their whispers and mutterings became even louder.

"Let me just re-read everything. Who knows? An answer might come up." I said as I started to re-read.

The creepy creatures on the walls immediately backed away and their mutterings started to sound like a scene from a play where the on lookers are sad that there won't be an execution. I mentally pat myself on the back for surviving death yet again and focused on the runes.

After re-reading everything, I realized that there was more than just a line missing.

'Great1 not only do I have to deal with a missing line but jumbled words as well.' I thought as I tugged at my hair.

"A fool, a fool, she is a fool like the ones before her and after us. She knows nothing."

The mumbles don't cease as the keep on providing me with information.

"I wish there was a journal that I could use. Clearly I am not the first person here. Sigh even if so who would give it to me? I am all alone here." I said and the I heard a rustling from somewhere.

Looking up, I realized that a book was falling from wherever. Falling to either offer me help or damn my soul to hell.

"Strange! Where did this come from? What is it?" I asked, playing the part of a clueless adventurer. I was constantly reminding myself of the dangers of being found out and I couldn't be even more scared.

I opened the book and I realized that it was a journal and it as written in Latin! Latin! Why!?

"Am I not supposed to go out of here?" I asked no one in particular as I sighed.

As I thought of my next move, stomping interrupted my line of thought as the ghost scurried far away from the fountain, running off and leaving me to face my fate alone.

"What could be making those weird stomping sounds? I had better hide." I said to myself and I struggled to find where to hide. Noticing a tiny hole in the whole, I ran to it just as the monster made it to the fountain and I squeezed myself into the small space thanking my weird family for keeping me under fed.

"She is here! She is here! We must eat her!" I heard a voice behind me and I almost face palmed.

This was the true embodiment of the saying 'from the frying pan, into the fire.' What are the odds that the place I decide to hide in actually had ghosts in it?!

"I hope I am safe from whatever is outside there." I said, not minding their presence. After all, that is the only way to survive anything to do with ghosts.

"Send her out! Send her out! He will catch us! Send her out!" the ghosts say before I feel something pushing my behind.

Huh?
