Chapter 12: Mercenary Group (1)
I opened my eyes, to the sound of my alarm, I turned it off and checked the time. It was currently 5 in the morning, and as usual, I got up took a shower, and headed to the cafeteria.
Yesterday as I was too focused on reading, I forgot to go to the cafeteria and grab a meal, as it was already past 8, and the cafeteria was already closed.
So after arriving I ordered 4 sets of meals as I was extremely hungry.
I was waiting for my meals to be prepared, I noticed 3 familiar faces staring at me, Ciel, Noel, and Arthur.
Without even waving at them I grabbed two of my trays and brought them to the table in the corner, then I returned to the counter and grabbed the other two and returned to my table.
While eating I started to recount what I had learned after using telekinesis. I learned that the amount of mana used is dependent on the size of the item, meaning that after covering something with mana I don't have to spend any more of it to move the item around or anything like that.
Unlike spells such as fireballs that the longer you keep out the more you have to spend to keep their effects, telekinesis seems to work quite differently. While a fireball would consume small portions of mana overtime to keep its effects, telekinesis uses a large portion of your mana depending on the size of the object and you are able to control it for however long you want, but since this takes concentration and a high level of mana control it is still quite hard for me to keep items floating for long periods of time.
After finishing my meals I decided to head to the library, it was then that I saw a girl with black hair waiting in front of the door.
Approaching slowly, Angelica must have heard my steps as she suddenly snapped her head and looked in my direction.
"Did you wait for long?"
"No, I just got here", She seem quite adept at lying.
Then with no further wait, I unlocked the doors to the library and went on to search for any books relating to telekinesis, but unfortunately, I couldn't find one. I was also not about to ask Monica for help as it would mean hell training and my body is not ready for such a thing.
I saw angelica sit down at one of the tables and open a book, I decided it would be best to leave her alone as I also hated being interrupted when reading a book.
I also set some alarms on my watch for 7:55 am for Monday to Friday and one at 6 pm for every day of the week so I don't miss another meal.
While I was thinking of what book to read, the doors to the library suddenly opened and a tall girl with mesmerizing golden hair entered the room.
"Ah, Keith, how is it going?", She asked as she came running to me and gave me a hug.
I was confused at the sudden events as I don't ever remember being so close to Alicia for us to have physical contact.
Noticing my face of confusion, Alicia began to blush.
"Ah, sorry, it's just that I like little kids a lot and with your height and face, you look exactly like a young kid"
I kind of understood but decided to take a step back.
But I didn't hate this development and later on, it would be easier to make her join me if we build a close relationship.
After that whole ordeal, I grabbed a book relating to fire spells and began to read in the reception.
Then at 7:55 am I said goodbye to Alicia and Angelica as we all headed to our respective classrooms.
Just like every day the schedule was the same and none of the information that was presented by Monica really mattered as it was mostly explaining how magic works, why alchemy is important, and all of that stuff in the academic classes, and like yesterday, I skipped training class thanks to being part of the library committee. Then I headed to the library and spent all the day inside reading books but I did take a break to go get something to eat.
This same process repeated itself for the next 3 days, and it was finally Saturday. I was happy that it was the weekend but I really didn't have anything to do apart from going outside the school.
And that is exactly what I did, it was finally time to start making some money, as of right now I have a total of [Balance: 1523 RP], and that was all I got even after selling the herbs I got from the Elixir of Growth dungeon but it was enough for now.
After leaving the school I headed into the marketplace, which was a dumb idea as this was the first district and nothing was affordable for a poor kid like me.
But the reason I headed into the marketplace was not to shop for items but to head into one of the Round Table small branches that was located in the marketplace of district 1.
Of course, I had to use a GPS on my watch because my sense of direction was completely horrible and while I do remember everything I wrote about the novel, the only issue is that the locations given by the author were always vague and left much to wonder.
Soon enough I arrived at a somewhat luxurious-looking building with black walls but after walking inside, it almost felt like taking a portal as the inside was made of wood and it looked like a medieval kind of scenery.
I would have immediately headed for the receptionist and asked to create a mercenary group but I actually knew a characteristic of the owner of this place, he liked people that could look past his disguised. The owner of this branch was someone that had a skill that allowed him to disguise himself however he wants and if you were to find him, you could obtain not only a relationship with him but even some items.
Using [Truth Eyes], I looked around the room until my eyes landed on someone, [Ray Jacob], that was the name of the branch owner and also his S- rank easily revealed he was the strongest in the room and due to that, I headed in his direction.
Arriving in front of him, I said, "I would like to have a private meeting if you don't mind".
Ray soon made a big smile and stood up.
"Follow me, kid", after saying those words he guided me to the second floor and then onto his office.
He sat down on his big chair and started to smoke.
"So what can I do for you, kid?"
"I would like to create a mercenary group"
"That's it?"
"Yes"
Letting out a sigh the man looked quite disappointed.
But before he could say anything else I stated.
"The mercenary group will be under my name or should I say an alias, and we will probably be doing some things amongst the rats so I would hope that the branch owner, can give us his utmost support"
After hearing this, the disappointment in Ray soon disappeared and an intrigued smile flashed across his face. You see Ray is a character that was neutral, meaning he helped neither side but still belonged to both, and only at moments like this would Ray show some excitement and help the requesting party.
"Oh, what kind of support are you talking about?"
"Intrigued aren't you, but there is nothing much, we will probably sometimes leave some traces behind and I hope you will take care of such mishaps may I say"
Bursting into laughter, Ray then suddenly gave me a serious look, "So what is there for me, kid?", Ray was also someone pragmatic in a sense.
Putting my hands behind my back to look like someone intimidating and wise, I started to walk around the room.
Then in a provocative voice, I began to speak.
"While you may be one of the strongest amongst humanity, why do you hide behind a mask? It is because you are scared of others being able to see what you hate the most, the scar on your eye, or I'm I wrong?", Ray soon glared at my words.
"You see, I know you have been trying to search for the man that has injured you and I would be willing to share such information with the kind gentleman sitting on that chair, but you see, as you have said everything has a price".
Ray then crossed his legs and put his hand on his chin, after a solid 2 minutes of waiting Ray finally opened his mouth.
"So what are the conditions?"
Letting out a smug face, I began to speak.
"Create a mercenary group named, Luminous Shadow, under the name of the leader, Blackout, and I would also like it if you were to give me a large sum of money if you could"
"The mercenary group is something easily done with my power but for the money, I can only offer you 50 million"
"That would be enough"
"Ok pass me your watch I will create the mercenary group right now and implement it into your watch so you have access to all its information"
I handed him the watch and waited for a while until Ray spoke once again.
"Done and I already transferred you the money"
"Thank you"
After receiving the watch I instantly checked my balance.

As I was about to check the mercenary group app, Ray spoke in an oppressive voice, while looking at me straight in the eyes.
"Now speak"
