Chapter 41: home at last!
A few days passed and tomorrow we would be back behind Serothor's walls a lot had happened but it would be good to be home and I have a few ideas about how to improve serothors defence.
Now that we have some empire soldiers protecting the city we can focus on our selves and building serothors supplies of food and other essential things for the years ahead.
I also plan to organise mandatory weekly training for all of serothors reserve army so that they don't lose their touch and bi-daily training for the permanent force that chose to join the main army.
I also had to figure out ranks and organise construction of several defences and defensive structures to prepare for a myriad of future problems.
In otherwords my schedule was basically full for a very long time but then I remembered something that made my face go pale.
I then spoke to Oz.
"Hey Oz you said that you reversed engineered a summoning spell right? and that guy would of been unharmed by it right?"
Oz hummed in my head and spoke.
"Yeah what about it?"
I thought for a second and asked a question.
"You also said that if more people are involved it doesn't really harm them but you modified it to be a single person casting it right?"
Oz scoffed and replied.
"Yeah why are you asking so many questions?"
I spoke nearly screaming inside my head.
"Because you just invented teleportation!"
It was silent for a moment and that silence was followed by a long lengthy discussion it was decided that Oz would work on refining his spell so that we could teleport as we please.
The carriage stopped and we set up camp for the night and I asked Aaron and Eren a question.
"How would you two like positions as royal assistants? you could have you family live in the servants wing and you wouldn't need to fight when called upon your only jobs would be carriage driving and advising"
Aaron spoke first.
"I would love too! my future children would grow up behind the walls of a castle and be in the safest part of serothor with the strongest individuals constantly around them!"
Eren spoke second.
"Your offer is very generous your highness but unlike my brother I volunteered to join serothors forces to protect our city and my husband died doing that so I want to carry his legacy"
I nodded and spoke.
"Very well, Aaron I hereby give you the title of royal assistant to the second prince and Eren I promise you a rank promotion once I sort out serothors army ranks you two have earned it for my safe return"
The night went fast and now it was time to travel home.
By noon we could see Serothor and for the first time since coming here I cried for a reason other than pain.
It's walls stood tall and imposing after the renovations, the area around it had craters and scattered broken weapons but still the vegetation was slowly coming back.
Further off I could see the taller buildings only just peeking out from behind the walls and eclipsed by the castle with thick towers and large battlements.
From the first moment I realised I wasn't in my own body to last night I thought of it as a place I had to protect because of me or because of new people I care about but now I want to protect it because it's my home.
We approached the gates which were opened by empire troops and many people cheered at my return that's when I made a choice.
Right now I was seen as a general, a prince, the person who made their sons, fathers, brothers, sisters and daughters die.
I needed to- no I want to be more than that so even though we had only just passed the gate I stepped out of the carriage.
everyone was shocked but especially the empires troops I had walked around Serothor so even though it was shocking the natives adapted well and made a clear walkway.
Nut the troops of the empire had probably never even seen an openly minor noble walking on the street.
I walked back toward the gate and put my hand out I felt the smooth thick wooden doors I turned around towards the now gathering crowd of people and walked forward.
I walked so close to the crowed of people Elise jumped out and tried to stop me but then they all kneeled on the ground.
Mothers with baby's in their arms, soldiers who have fought, artisans and tradesmen, farmers and shop owners even the shady street kids they kneeled.
I feel powerful but also a heavy feeling of responsibility I know that the choice i make here will decide my fate.
And so I spoke in my clearest voice.
"I'm home! all rise!"
They all cheered and stood up I had the carriage driving behind me and Elise next to me as we walked to the castle people clearing the way as we went.
As we approached the castle and saw the royal family Oz spoke.
"Hey would you mind if I had this one?"
I let him take over my body and when we got close he spoke
"Mum, Dad, Grandma, Zachary and Clair I'm back"
With that he left back into my mind and our family hugged our body so hard I thought I was going to die and once we parted the Queen of Serothor my new mother queen Corae spoke.
"Welcome back my boy"
