Chapter 39: Which group to join?

*YAWN*

Clarence woke up from his bed and went to the bathroom to freshen up. It has almost been two days since the entrance exams finished. During that time, the only thing he did was sleep.

He wasn't joking when he told Bernard yesterday that he might need two days of sleep just to keep his mental health in check.

He completed his workout and put on his clothes after coming out from the bathroom. Today he finally felt a little good, so he decided to look around the academy campus.

The first building he came across was something he assumed to be a library, which he entered after showing his cadet pass to the guard.

Just after the entrance exam, everyone was allocated their own rooms where a cadet pass was sent a few hours later.

When he entered the library, he was a little amazed by the sheer size of it. Even the royal library of the demonic empire wasn't this big. He roamed around on the ground floor and found that the books here were mostly about introduction to various topics.

But even if it were just an introduction, he could still see various people holding the book and reading. One could take only one book home given that the person has no privilege, so most of the people go through the contents of the book under the stipulated time of three minutes to know if they really wanted it as you can only issue one time in a week.

He took a look around the section he was walking in and noticed that it was the general information about this world.

The planet they were living on was called earth and there existed seven more planets of various sizes distributed in space. All of these eight planets revolved around a huge ball of fire called the sun.

The Earth they were living on was the richest planet out of the eight but only Demons and Humans had inhabited it. There were trade points situated of different races across the planet, but that's about it. The real hegemonies of the planet were still Demons and Humans.

Apart from Earth, humans had complete control over Venus whereas demons had complete control over Mars.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune were ruled by Dragons, Elves, Werewolves and Vampires respectively. The front most Mercury was inhabited by dwarves.

There was also a reclusive planet named Pluto which wasn't counted in the total number of planets where several types of soul type creatures resided.

This time every race had participated in the making of the allied academy and sending their young ones there.

Clarence moved on from the areas as he already knew about all of this.

When he attempted to go to the first floor, there was another guard standing in front of the staircase leading to the second floor.

Same with the ground floor, Clarence showed the guard his cadet pass. This time the guard took the pass and scanned it with some box-like artifact which beeped then turned green.

Access to the first floor of the library was in the rewards which he got as the winner of entrance exams.

He entered the first floor and saw that there were already some people present here. Clarence could only assume that they were his seniors which transferred from the main academy of their races.

Of course, not all the students from main academies transferred. For example the imperial academy of demons. Out of the ten batches from all their years. Only the top two batches of all the years were transferred over to the allied academy.

Clarence approached the bookshelves and noticed that these books were about the most basic meditation scriptures. By now he was getting confused, the ones being admitted here would obviously all be geniuses.

So why would they need such basic stuff? Although he didn't see much to deduce from, he guessed that the second floor would either be filled with a little higher level of meditation scriptures or with basic level techniques and spells like his feather step leg technique and illusory arms arm technique.

"Clarence? Winner of the entrance exams?"

Clarence turned around as he saw a buff young man coming his way. He had a handsome face and an afro styled black hair.

Not knowing who he was nor what he wanted, Clarence just nodded and kept quiet.

The guy extended his hand for handshake and introduced himself,

"Akhlan drezy, a fourth tier cadet."

Thinking that it wouldn't be any harm to just introduce himself, he accepted the handshake and replied,

"Clarence Verity, a second tier cadet."

Rather than cadets being judged by years here, they are judged by their rank. The rank two cadets come under tier one, rank three under tier two, rank four under tier three and so forth.

Of course, if one's prowess is above their rank, their tier will be raised too, after an appropriate examination is conducted. It was also the very reason Clarence was a tier two cadet as he had already proved himself by defeating Maxillan and Bernard who were at rank three.

Clarence didn't introduce himself by his outside status as an heir of the Royal family of the demonic empire as it was the rule of the academy. Here in the academy, everyone will be treated equally.

Hence, even Akhlan only introduced himself as a fourth tier cadet and stopped at that. He never spoke a word about his outside status.

Of course, you were free to use your status to bully, but it was only if the person being bullied lets himself get bullied as the academy had already stipulated everyone was equal, which meant they would also protect you if anyone used their status to trouble you on the missions outside.

Although there were no precedents yet as the academy was newly formed. It had already warned the consequences would be dire if any cadet dared to use their outside world status while being outside the academy for any task.

"Are you interested in joining our group? It's the Scavengers."

Clarence's eyebrows raised when he heard the word, he was clearly surprised by this. Seeing his reaction, Akhlan thought for a moment and said,

"Seeing your reaction, you might have heard of us, right?"

Clarence nodded at his words but provided no further explanation. So Akhlan continued,

"Well, it makes things easier. There are already a lot of groups forming in the academy. Like me, they are mainly formed by people who have connections to the major powers outside.

We look for talents and provide them with help. In return, we ask for just two years of job at the powers who are backing these groups."

Of course, since the allied academy was completely cut off from the outside world, the powers won't be able to spread their influence.

So instead, like Akhlan, who was chosen to be a spokesperson of those powers before entering the allied academy, was told to gather talents. Incentive? They'd get to work for these powers without going through the rigorous screening process of jobs.

What's in it for the major powers? Talents. Every person admitted into the allied academy was destined to be an elite if they don't die. The powers had nothing to lose here.

If you see it that way, why would the cadets even join the powers? Resources. The allied academy would take care of resources for six years, what happens after that? They would have to go around searching for resources. So, the major powers would give them the resources they need.

Sure, any power out there would take them in if they successfully graduate from the allied academy. But wouldn't it be better to already have connections and rapport from a major power since their time in the academy itself.

This whole thing was a win-win situation for both the parties. It wasn't just at this academy. Nearly every main academy had this kind of thing going on within their ranks.

And in the allied academy, where there would only be top talents from all the races gathering, there couldn't be a better opportunity for these major powers.

After listening to Akhlan's explanation, Clarence just told him that he needed time to think and would definitely consider his offer.

Akhlan seemed as if he expected this reaction, so he just nodded and gave him a card to contact him with. He then went back to reading the books he was previously busy with.

There were artifacts and talismans in this world where they had a specific number on them. If another artifact or talisman with a similar feature had this number put into them, it will connect the two artifacts or talismans.

Clarence kept the book he was reading and exited the library as he felt like researching about the various groups.

He didn't think that only the major powers could make one, there should be ones made by students too, which would be purely for the time they were in academy.

He had probably missed out on some information since he was asleep for two days, so he intended to look for his friends and ask them about it.
