Chapter 3: The First Assignment

I stopped exactly at the address I saw on the card. I walked into the building and a young beautiful lady called my attention. "Good day sir! How can I help you?", she asked smiling. "I've got an appointment with Von Ruiz", I replied her. "Von Ruiz you say?", she asked again surprised. I showed her the card Von Ruiz gave me, and she smiled. "Come with me!". I followed her, and we walked into an elevator. "So, are you his cousin or what?", she asked me"No, I'm just a new client of his. He offered me a job", I replied her"So, are you happy you're going to work with him?""I don't know. I don't really know him, but I do go to his club though.""I'm Wendy by the way", she said stretching forth her hand."Henry!", I replied her with a handshake. The elevator stopped, and the door opened. "Von Ruiz's office is over there", Wendy said while pointing towards a direction. I walked to the office door. I looked through the window and saw Von Ruiz with two of his boys. He looked angry from the way he was addressing them. They walked out after a few minutes and I entered. "Come in son", Von Ruiz ordered as soon as he saw me. "I've been expecting you". "Look Henry, I'm in a mess right now. I told my boys to take care of a trade for me and they screwed it up", Von Ruiz explained. "The thing right now is, I've got a deal coming up in the next few hours at a warehouse at the docks. The name of this dealer is Bronxx. Now be careful because this man's dangerous and nobody wants to mess with him". "What am I supposed to do and what sort of deal are we talking about?", I asked. "It's a drug deal. We deal on cocaine in this city. I need you to go with Jack and Eddie to the warehouse and make sure this deal goes well", Von Ruiz explained. Von Ruiz made a quick call with his telephone and shortly, two of his guys entered his office. "This is Jack and over there is Eddie", he said indicating each of them. "I'm very sure they've met you. Boys, this is Henry right here. He's one of us now. Respect him like you would respect me. He's going with you guys to see Bronxx. This is his first job because he has never done this before. Now give him the necessary tools". Jack asked me to follow him and I did but Von Ruiz called us back. "If anything goes wrong there, you know what to do", he said while giving a sign which means "kill". Jack escorted me to a room. He gave a packaged suit and told me to wear it. "Meet me outside when you're done", he said and left the room. I changed to the suit and matched it with a black shoe. I met him outside like he said, and he was talking with Eddie and two other of Ruiz's boys. Eddie opened the trunk of a Chevrolet SUV and brought out an assault rifle gun. "Do you know how to use of this?", he asked while handing me the gun. "Yes, why ask?", I replied. "You will find out when we get to the warehouse", Eddie said and closed the trunk. "Alright guys, hop in. The deal's in few hours. We've got no time to waste here", Jack said, and everybody began to get into their respective cars. Jack, Eddie and I used one while the others used the second SUV. Eddie drove us to the warehouse while the second SUV accompanied us behind. We drove silently until we got to the warehouse. It was an isolated area, quiet and calm. We all got down and I observed the place very well. There was a river at one side of the warehouse. Inside was all sorts of tools and machines packed at a corner. I spotted a black limousine from afar coming towards us. It got close enough and parked. Some men in black suit and sun shade glasses stepped out followed lastly by a tall old man whom I probably guessed is Bronxx. All Bronxx boys were armed with rifles. Of course, I wasn't prepared for anything, but I held my gun tightly with my two hands. Eddie and Jack walked up to them with a black briefcase while Bronxx and his boys approached him with a big bag. "Have you got my money?", Bronxx asked. "Have you got my package?", Jack asked. Bronxx gave a signal and one of his boys came up and opened the big bag. Bronxx brought a small bag of packaged cocaine and dropped it on the table. "This is the best you can find in the whole city. Check it out yourself and you'll understand what I'm talking about", Bronxx said folding both arms. Eddie took out his small pocket knife, opened the package, took a small quantity with the knife and sniffed it through his nostrils. "It's not as strong as the last one or should I say, the last one we bought is the best so far", Eddie said putting his knife away. "What are you talking about?", Bronxx asked feeling scared. "This is the best cocaine in this city. I don't sell this type to other dealers except to Von Ruiz". "Yes, we know that", Jack shouted. "And that's the more reason we're not interested in this deal. Von Ruiz won't be happy with us if we bring this kind of stuff to him. So, until you have a better deal, don't call us". "I want that money right now and you guys are going to hand it over or things will get ugly", Bronxx said. Neither Jack nor Eddie listened to Bronxx as they picked up the briefcase of money and started walking back. Everything seemed alright until we heard a loud sound from a gun. I looked, and I saw Eddie on the floor bleeding from his left leg. I looked over and I saw Bronxx holding a revolver pointed at us. Immediately we saw what happened, we opened fire on them. Bronxx ran back to take cover while his boys returned the fire. The gun war wasn't exciting as some of Bronxx's boys were skilled with their rifles. I ran to a pillar beside our SUV and took cover. Two of Bronxx boys were shooting at Eddie and Jack who were taking cover behind a container. I aimed at one and then the other to get a clear aim. "Bang! Bang!!" and the two fell dead. Bronxx began to run back to his limousine. One of his boys tried carrying the bag of cocaine but it was too heavy for him. Jack shot him at that spot and he fell and died. The remaining two retreated back to their limousine and drove away quickly.
