Chapter 2: Chapter 2:

Maybe he could take advantage of their low intellect.

If he didn't eat, he would not be able to withstand the pain of being undead. He shuddered at that. It was the kind of torture that was better left unsaid.

He raised the gun. 'Where are the others?'

...

{ You have levelled up. }

Level: 4 (experience bar)

{ Your agility level is inactive }

'Hmm'

The man with his guts out and the woman with a displaced neck hobbled deeper into the forest.

Frank stepped forward assessing the open canopy, he admired how the crowns of the fully stocked trees did not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps.

Under the lights seeping in, Frank saw a few corpses in a fetal position against the walls.

'Greetings uh, underling.'

He mentally slapped himself for that. But on the outside, he steeled himself.

A girl with long inky black hair mid-parted came along, her eyes still had pupils, giving her a terrifying hollow look like she had not slept in years. She had greyish-white skin and a slender build.

She wore a pink shirt with a white jacket, she assessed him closely and balanced her weight on her knock knees.

'Who are you supposed to be?' She asked.

Frank grimaced at the poor girl. 'I am Frank. Danielson. And your name is?'

She looked like she did not remember... Maybe because no one had asked. She raised a half-eaten bony finger to scratch her head. The top was bare bone and the one under was her flesh.

'Zee...Zipporah.' She called.

'Well, Zeepporah, I have come to rescue all of you.'

'How so?' She sniffed hobbling closer tilting her head. 'You are not from here.'

Frank almost broke into a sweat, he could tell that she had experience. She was quick-witted.

He felt irritated by that. He needed to establish dominance. 'How dare you question me? And where are the other zombies?'

The couple had forgotten entirely why they were here. Counting on him.

He struggled to keep up the conversation. His heart was pulsing.

As long as they were dim-witted then he would be fine. He had to put the group at bay especially her...

Zipporah hushed and pointed an arm, her bony pale fingers outstretched too to the deeper darker forest.

His mouth opened at the dragonflies swarming the place. A lizard emerged from the black mud and crawled by.

'West' Said

'Good' He scoffed at the bats flapping around.

'Well, I need a place to stay. We need meat'

'Plan?' Her eyes widened.

'Yes, dear numbskull, flesh. In time'

She moved uneasily. 'Too afraid to step outside. Monsters will kill me.'

Frank laughed at that but he knew what she meant by monsters.

The Stalios colonists were patrolling the borders now. He smiled when he entertained an idea.

'Why don't you show me to your nest and then we talk food.'

........

He held the gun limping with Zipporah Tate the girl with dark circles around her eyes and the old couple moving along.

'Stay upfront.' He motioned his gun.

He could keep watch on them.

The older couple mumbled something about him giving them flesh.

He knew that they only came out on special occasions and the fact that they were eating off other cadavers meant that they were very low on stock.

He tapped his gun and they journeyed around the forest to the graveyard.

Frank stiffened when he overlooked the deep giant crater telescoped, naked tree roots around the planes.

Old tents and trucks were in the lowermost part of the crater, fog spiralled around the atmosphere.

The heap of dead bodies attracted a whole lot of condors, raccoons and mutant cheese flies.

Frank looked at Zipporah, he motioned his gun to the crater.

'Are they alive?'

Zipporah slid down and screeched.

SHRIEK!!!

He covered his ears at the unnatural sound. It was a sound mix between a velociraptor and a banshee.

The uncouth tangle of the undead aroused underground from under the truck. Sand and grime poured down.

The otherworldly outcries from them terrified him. His knees wobbled. He held his ground gazing at the three zombies rising.

Stepping up.

Frank gulped. 'That's it?' He dictated moving around upset.

The older couple nodded in agreement. 'Mmm'

The zombies picked up curiosity at the word food.

Zipporah frowned. 'Scattered.'

Frank plonked his gun down. He heard rustling in the bushes, some zombies crawled down tree trunks like animals to the ground.

Others emerged from the shadows.

He stepped back when others climbed up the crater.

He showed no fear. He needed some kind of bait. One that would attract both races for sure.

...

[ Daily Quest: Turn 5 men into zombies. ]

Reward: 15 EXPs

Frank roved with prowess in the muck, dragging one foot after the other, they heard people chopping down wood, the horde was moving unsteadily behind him.

'Quiet!' He roared.

However he spoke, they could not handle their hunger as much as he did.

ZZZZZZZZ!

A chainsaw grated against the side of a tree, and chips of wood flew everywhere.

They were harvesting timber from woodlands regardless of the risks. Others were on the lookout.

Frank felt shakier, his vision was going out.

[ Harvesting remaining stat points to 'Vitality' ]

+5 points

Vitality: 12

He felt a surge of energy.

Zipporah looked at him.

'Go around them' Frank whispered.

The group followed instructions without question.

'They're no smarter than a zooplankton'

They laughed heartily as the locals felled trees.

CRACK*

The leaves bounced when they fell.

He took up an orange tube from his pocket, Zipporah shrieked staying out of the way.

'What are you going to do with that?'

'Watch me'

The lumberjack saw an orange flare blazing in the woods. He pulled up his helmet and plodded back at the flare .'Someone in there?'

The forklift picked up stacks of wood.

'I don't know. We should probably go check it out. Someone could be in trouble.'

Two guards left their position.

Two walkers emerged. They were coming in slow, choppy steps_ and concave motion.

The lights reflected on the men's terrified faces. They backed off and the man in the fork lifter started the vehicle. 'Get in the vehicle'

VROOM!!

The zombies hissed hobbling after them.

Ahhhh!!!

The guards shot at them.

They fell back fleeing and another group of zombies arrived in front of them until they were surrounded.

Frank could not believe his eyes. The zombies had followed suit and circled them like lions.

Dust exploded everywhere with bullets. Blinding them.

ZIP!

Some of the traps went off and Frank cursed at the few zombies who were snagged together into nets. Some fell into holes.
