F.E.A.S.T

It stood for Food, Emergency Aid, Shelter and Training. It was a New York based non-profit charitable organisation which mainly focused on helping homeless and poor people in need.

It was established by Martin Li, also known as Mr. Negative, as a way to help the people so that no one would suffer abandonment, hunger and homelessness like he did as a child.

I remembered it from the Spider-Man game that came out on Play Station but also from the third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie and some bits from comics (not much mind you but still...)

I didn't know for sure if what I knew of his motivations was also true here but truly, it didn't matter.

I needed food and a safe shelter to plan out my next moves.

I didn't care what Li used F.E.A.S.T for, as long as it helped me I didn't care.

It was simply a means to an end.

...

Also, I was only going to sleep and there for one night, so it wasn't that big of a deal to begin with.

And I had sufficient belief in my meta-knowledge that as far as I knew from the little bits of meta-knowledge about it, Li kept his crime life separate from his charity in comics and in the game.

So that only left finding where it was.

And truthfully? I frankly didn't remember where it was (it had been a few years since I had played that game and it was the useless type of information that you usually forget) but it was relatively simple finding it out.

I just went to a nearby dollar store, bought a $5 backpack to keep my belongings in, a $1 water bottle, a discounted $1.5 thick notebook and pen combo, a cheap 0.5$ soap and some packets of Lays for $2.

Overall, I spent $10 dollars out of my $100 budget.

While it did lighten my wallet I bought some essentials and also thankfully learned the address from the helpful Chinese women sitting at the counter.

"Thanks Mrs. Chen!" I said as I exit the store and the doorbell chimes.

Now, how does one get to Chinatown while he is somewhere near Times Square?

...

Subway.

Subway, was the answer.

NYC had perhaps one of the most spread out and connected Subway tracks in the whole America. So connected in fact, that you could go to any place in NYC with an relative ease (if you were willing to tolerate being put in a very crowded and cramped space that is).

After buying a ticket (it costed $1) and traveling to Chinatown via the Subway, I took the rest of the journey on foot.

And after walking for a few minutes and asking some people for directions, I had finally arrived at my destination.

It was a pretty average two story building all things considered. A cuboid shaped structure with big translucent windows and sand coloured walls. It featured a big F.E.A.S.T symbol on top and was in a relatively open space with a few trees here and there.

I sighed in relief as I finally saw it, I was beginning to think I wouldn't find it on time and would have to sleep in a park or something as I was really tired by now due to all the crying.

I mean sure, I could've gone to the Sanctum of the Master Of The Mystic Arts that was located here in New York, but truthfully? I didn't want to, not yet.

I wanted to atleast get a basic idea and skill in using my abilities before I go off and confronted the Ancient One.

And that was another headache for the future me...

Should tell her of my meta-knowledge and of her reality being just a movie franchise in my universe?

Or should I tell her mix of truths and lies?

Or should I tell her nothing?

Maybe come up with a fake backstory?

...but all lies eventually come out. And she was atleast a millennia old, so would I even be able to successfully lie to her?

...I could tell that it was going to take me some time to come a decision.

So for now, it was better to focus on the present rather than the future.

It reminded me of a great quote I had read somewhere:-

'Remember the Past, Live in the Present, and Prepare for the Future.'

...

Right now, I needed some food, rest and most of all, sleep.

So I dragged my tired feet to the doors and opened them halfway through. Inside I was greeted by a crowded hall and an ongoing dinner session.

I asked a man, that presumably worked for F.E.A.S.T, for help in understanding the 'hows'.

He thankfully helped me and set me up with a bowl of soup, a piece of bread and a sleeping bag for the night.

He also thankfully didn't ask many questions, probably thinking of myself as a runaway or homeless teen and taking pity.

And he wouldn't be half wrong if he was thinking about it.

Because my ass was broke as fuck right now.

Good things I had a few ideas going about in my brain, but some of them required me to atleast get a basic gist of my powers. Specifically Kaleidoscope.

But leaving that aside, I took the soup bowl and sat with a bunch of other guys that seemed relatively close to my age.

I didn't mingle much with any of them, only providing a little word here and there, but because of this I did manage to gain some information that may prove valuable in the future.

"Hey man! Did you hear that rumor? About where Daredevil ambushed and beat up Kingpin when he was being transported to prison?" Interjects a bearded middle aged man in the middle of some baseball talk.

Everyone at our table, including myself, perks up at that and start giving out various responses.

"What! No way dude!"

"Do you really believe in that bullshit Carl?"

"That's old news Carl. Like two months old."

"Yeah dude! No way!"

"Really?! That's amazing man."

Hearing the scepticism from majority of the people, the aforementioned Carl defends himself "I'm just saying the truth man. My friend swore that he saw the whole thing with his own two eyes!"

The person sitting next to Carl spoke up in defence of his presumable friend and said "He's saying the truth guys I was there too-"

While they started talking, I had already tuned them out and was thinking mentally.

It was good to hear the confirmation that the Netflix shows, or maybe just Daredevil, was canon here.

But it wasn't anything that I already didn't know. The CYOA had basically confirmed that the Kingpin would exist here so it stood to reason that his arch-nemesis, Daredevil would also exist here.

But this also threw a slight wrench in my plans. Cause' Kingpin had been already defeated by Daredevil, so I had to wait until he eventually broke out and defeat him then.

If I remember correctly he breaks out in Season... 3, maybe?

Sigh... A small quest just turned into a long one...

But to be honest it was also better this way, I didn't know much about the Netflix shows, only a few tidbits here and there. Like Jessica Jones's origin story, Iron Fist's origin story, Punisher's origin story and also Luke Cage's origin story.

...Okay maybe I only knew their origin stories (and a few insignificant things after that), but that's not the point!

...

Ahem! As I was saying, I don't know much about the Netflix shows part of the MCU, so this gave me ample time to find out and prepare for the threats and allies in that part of the world.

I knew that Daredevil was part of the MCU after the shitty show that was She-Hulk. But I didn't know if any of the others were.

I do remember hearing some rumours that Punisher was going to join too but nothing about the others.

Hmm... If my memory was right, then it should've been a few days since the attack on Frank Castle where his family was killed.

Not gonna lie, I pitied him alot. Only God knew how it felt to loose your whole family in the blink of an eye.

And maybe, I also related a bit to him too.

Our situation was very different yet very similar.

Both of us had lost our families. For him, his family was taken from him. And for me, I was taken from my family.

...At least, I had the reprieve of knowing that I would someday be able to reunite with them again.

But to him? They were gone. Forever.

'Hmm... Maybe I could do something for him in the future...' There were multitude of ways to meet the dead in a world like this afterall.

I could not, and would not, resurrect them even if I wanted to, there was just too much chance of it turning out like Pet Sematary, but atleast I could give him some closure...

Alas, I wasn't strong enough, or even versatile enough to bring forth the souls of the dead...

Yet.

...

Leaving those heavy and sad topics aside, the talk didn't go anywhere interesting after that, only a few mentions of Stark and the Avengers.

So I didn't bother sitting there any longer, and quickly finished my bowl of soup and piece of bread and stood up to return the bowl.

Afterwards, I was pointed to an area where many people were already sleeping. I set up my sleeping bag in a relatively free space, made sure no one could steal my bag and wallet by putting them inside the sleeping bag with me too and just lied there for a few moments before I slowly went to sleep.

And thus, my first day in this world of superheroes and supervillains came to an end.

With many more to come...

Some good, and some bad.

But...

Such is Life.
