Chapter 15: Chapter 13 Shock

It didn't take Chen Jin long to reach his destination. The Seven Treasures was, like the owner of the stall said, noticeable.

It took after the name of the sect, the only difference being that it only had four stories. Still higher than the vast majority of the surrounding buildings though.

Chen Jin walked inside, the interior was a bit different of what he expected, while tasteful, the decoration was minimalistic, it was simple in its beauty instead of screaming wealth.

"Good morning little one, do you need something?" the question came from a young woman, around her twenties.

"Hi! I'm looking for my aunt, she's named Bai Huo!" Chen Jin smiled at her, he thought a lot more likely that she would pass the message if he called her by name without saying her position.

"Of course little dust! The manager talked a lot about her 'cute little nephew before, we thought she was exaggerating before though".

Chen Jin took a step back, he knew the look on her face, better safe than sorry.

"She talked about me?" he asked, a bit of his newfound apprehension bleeding through besides the curiosity.

She seemed a bit amused now "When as she Not talked about you would be the better question" she said.

"She spends the day, before and after going to visit talking about you" she looked at him with a bit of pity now "She seems to especially like your cheeks, apparently they are the only certain way to embarrass and annoy her 'way too mature little dust' she continued.

He just knew she did it on purpose.

"I'm going to call her now. You can wait on the couch" she motioned to the corner as she spoke.

As he sat he couldn't help but wonder if coming here was actually a good idea. A question that was unfortunately answered barely two minutes later.

"Chen'er!" was the first and last thing he heard before his young(er) aunt did her best impression of a guided missile.

It was a bit more than half an hour later that he (finally) managed to find himself in a room.

Talking with Bai Huo (or just existing in her general vicinity), was... tiring, to say the least.

She was way too excitable, and cuddly. And touchy. And generally just way too extroverted, in is new life he found himself, by choice, alone most of the time, he enjoyed the peace and tranquility that it brought. His motor mouth of an aunt tired him out quickly as a result, he wasn't used to interaction with other people.

He had a smile as he rubbed his face and sat down on the bed though.

He took his grand uncles letter out and stared at it. He was going to open it now, before going on a walk through the city, this way he would have a way to unwind later if something bothered him, who knows what it said after all.

"Hello" it simply started

"As you already know, I am Chen Xin, your mother's uncle, and a member of the Seven Treasured Glazed Tile Pagoda sect.

You might not have met me before, but I have met you.

You're the last of my family, and as such, I originally wanted to bring you to the sect, where I can be certain of your safety, and raise you myself.

When we got word of your survival I immediately set off to bring you back, but when I saw you I also saw two problems that made me decide otherwise.

Firstly you took after my niece, you obviously like freedom. The sect has a rule, if i brought you, you would be considered part of it, forever. With my position I could keep your freedom, so that was not too big of a problem. That brings us to the second one.

You already had your spirit. That was and still is not normal. Bringing you to the sect would have announced your talent to the world.

So I decided not to. And wait until your older to formally meet you, that would keep you safer.

Now that you are reading this letter, I advise you to not bring attention to yourself for a few years. Do not visit me until you're at least ten.

With how soon you awakened I'd wager that your spirit power will be similarly a lot higher than normal for your age.

Stay hidden until you grow enough that you can easily fake your age.

Mine might be a member of the top three sects, but the Spirit Hall is not above underhanded dealings.

Stay safe and I hope to meet you soon

Sword Douluo, your grand uncle."

...

Chen Jin was not expecting that. It never crossed his mind that his grand uncle would just leave the sect and come and see him. Though looking back it should have been obvious. His niece was dead and he'd gotten news that some family still lived.

Chen Jin was also not expecting him to have seen that his spirit was already awakened, if he knew Ning Fengzi and Gu Rong also knew.

Was his knowledge limited to that? Did he visit again?

They probably did not send anyone to keep an eye on him, it might have gotten out, but if his granduncle came once whose to say he didn't come twice. Thrice?

He let himself fall backwards into the bed.

This was not what he was expecting, nor was it anywhere near what he wanted.

It would surely leave expectations for him to join the sect, when he got around to visit they would surely try their best.

Becoming part of the sect, even if he kept his freedom to travel would still bind him, things that he could not do, things that would be expected of him. He did not want that.

It was a small silver lining that it appeared that Chen Xin already knew that.

He got up and headed for the door. It seemed that his musings about maybe needing to unwind later were prophetic in nature, he thought with some dark amusement as he opened the door.
