Chapter 50: Living up to her reputation

BANG!

The deafening shot, followed by the man's grunting, snapped Luca out of her character. Seeing the blood spurt out of the fabric of his clothes, her pupils slowly dilated. 

What did she just do?

"Mad…" her breath hitched when Adam's amused voice caressed her ears. "... living up to your reputation, I see."

Luca slowly looked back at Adam, only to see the lopsided curl on the corner of his lips. He wasn't fazed with what had just happened, while she could barely keep her knees from falling. The shock for her was too grave. Her expression stayed blank. 

"I heard the maddest in the Fourth is the chief herself." Adam brushed her cheek with the back of his fingers, studying her blank expression. "I doubted that for a second, but… I guess you are just full of surprises."

"He's… he's not dead." She looked away and breathed out carefully. "I got carried away."
