Chapter 16: The Rematch

I woke up to a pounding on my door. I begrudgingly got up and answered. There stood Vicky with fire in her eyes.

"Are you ready for that rematch Jason?" She asked as she bounced up and down shadow boxing.

"Are you having an aneurysm? A stroke maybe? It's 4:30 in the morning, what the hell Vicky.?" I asked frustrated that my sleep had been interrupted.

She grabbed my wrist and pulled me down the hallway. Molly was sitting at her desk avoiding all eye contact with me.

"Thanks, a lot Molly!" I yelled back at her.

She just smiled and waved as Vicky tugged at my arm. She was extremely persistent as she chattered away about how she couldn't believe someone might be able to fight her on equal ground. After several moments of grumpy protest by me, we reached the arena. She stood in the dirt circle with excitement on her face.

"Whenever you're ready Jason!" She called out getting ready.

I yawned and looked at her.

"You'll have to pay for waking me up so early, after not sleeping for two days," I replied as I jumped into action.

My speed caught her off guard, barely blocking an overhead kick. She tried to punch me, but I caught her wrist and threw her across the ring. She hit the concrete wall of the arena. After the dust settled, she stood there cracking her neck.

"Looks like I can let loose now." She smiled wickedly as she charged me.

What occurred next would have had the whole school buzzing with gossip. Each blow was matched, and any footing gained was lost in an instant for both sides. We both had given it our all. The arena shows the signs of a personal battle. After fifteen minutes of fighting, we stood there, huffing and trying to catch our breath.

"Jason, you have impressed me. This is the first time in a long time anyone's been able to survive this long in a fight against me, let alone be on equal ground with me. Let's finish this!" " Vicky said.

I nodded, launching my final attack. She went to the roundhouse to kick me. I caught her leg and swept the other one out from under her pushing her to the dirt. I then punched her hard in the gut. She gasped in pain as the second punch connected with her diaphragm. She landed a nasty elbow that connected with my face, forcing herself on top of me. She began raining down punches, laughing manically with each hit. I wrapped an arm around her neck and wrapped my legs around her midsection. I pulled upwards on her neck as she struggled to remove me. A minute or so went by, her struggle growing more frantic as more and more pressure was applied from the hold. She hit me In the ribs a few times with what little strength she could muster before she passed out. She went limp and I released the hold. She fought till she couldn't, that was the mentality of a fighting junkie such as her. I picked her up and carried her back to the dorms. Molly greeted me with the most shocked face as I entered the dorms.

"You, you won?" She stammered as I went to my room.

I laid Vicky on the bed and decided I needed to shower. I covered Vicky up and went to the communal bathroom. After I was done, I went back to my room to be greeted by a very shocked Vicky. She was sitting under the covers with them pulled up to just under her eyes.

"You're not going to force yourself on me, are you?" She quietly whispered as she visually trembled.

"You know, I could have left you unconscious in the dirt for a real scumbag to hurt you," I replied as I dried my hair.

She looked taken back for a second before she nodded in agreement.

"I can't believe I lost." She said in utter disbelief.

"It was very neck and neck," I replied with a small smile.

She seemed comforted by that. She got up and walked to the door.

"They will expect more from you now. Please be ready, I know I wasn't." She said before running out.

I sighed and went to lay on my bed and noticed something strange.

"Where the hell is my pillowcase?" I scratched my head at the sight of my caseless pillow.

A knocking interrupted my thoughts.

"Well, aren't I Mr. Popular today?" I grumbled walking to my door.

Molly stood there, acting shifty yet again.

"Let me guess the headmaster wants to see me?" I groaned.

She only nodded before stepping out of my way. I sighed and glared at her.

"Maybe it's not him you should be so nervous about. Stop making me feel like you're setting me up to die whenever it involves the headmaster." I said with attitude.

I was frustrated, I just wanted to nap after the rough few days I had. After fighting Vicky my body was fatigued. I walked towards the headmaster's office as other students began their days. I knocked on his office door.

"Enter" His voice faint but strong.

I entered the room to see Heng, the headmaster, and Yi Meng sitting there waiting for me.

"Did someone die?" I asked laughing.

"Sit down." The headmaster motioned in a serious tone.

I looked at him but sat down without argument.

"Heng here has requested a week's leave for you and Yi Meng to compete in a family contest. You will leave immediately." The headmaster seemingly growled.

I could feel the tension in the air.

"Why is everyone serious?" I asked.

"Because this contest is meant for new family members or those coming of age. Since your both, it's time for you to compete. However, there's a high mortality rate due to the cockiness of the youth." Heng explained to me.

"Oh. I guess I'll go get my things. I will be ready in a couple of minutes" I replied heading back to the dorm.
