Chapter 15: I am not Hypocritical!
What is he looking here for? Does he sense something? Meh let's just play dumb, maybe he's just shooting in the dark, looking for clues? We are strong after all from his point of view.
"I am here to do a small test if you all are qualified to go up the Tower. I will just release Shinsu pressure equal to the 30th floor and if you can stand in that pressure, you pass. Also all the teammates have to pass this test or the whole team fails." He says to us.
"What? That's not fai-" someone shouted.
"Fair? Since when did you get the idea that Tower is fair. The fact that select chosen people climb the Tower already shows that the Tower isn't fair. Also you yourselves chose your teams, if you complain about your teammates now then your judgment was bad in selecting teammates. And if you object to this, then you will be disqualified along with your team. So please shut up and let me do the test, it's very straightforward so I don't see a need for further explanations or questions." He says with an evil looking grin.
There is no interruption from the Regulars after that. I mean it would be counterproductive to make them and I don't think anyone is that dumb here, probably.
"No interruptions? Good. So let's start the test." He says as he releases the pressure.....probably. I mean I felt nothing from that but I still act by gritting teeth as if it's taking effort to stand. The other five from the chat group also take the hint and act like they are struggling.
Most of the people fell down but they are now struggling to stand up. Some notable mentions who kept standing and didn't even bow was a certain White haired girl who I assume is from the arguably Strongest family in the Tower and a Blue haired boy.
"You have 3 minutes to stand up. If you aren't standing by then, you along with your team will fail the test."
Many Regulars have started to stand up under the pressure. There is no Shibisu like drama here, after 1 minute the rest of the Regulars on the ground couldn't get up no matter how hard they tried. Tower is really cruel like that but then again, the residents of the Tower were never meant to climb it as far as I know. Jahad was the one who actually allowed the residents to climb it and gave them power. I suppose that's one of the good things he has done.
"All right time's up. Only 10 teams have passed the test." The blonde b*stard states.
"Noooo!" Someone screams.
"Damn it!" Someone is wailing.
"Did I just fail because of this weakling?" Someone powerful looking dude is staring daggers at a frail boy.
"All right! The failures will now be immediately transported outside of the inner tower. I don't want any unnecessary drama. Administrator, if you will please do it quickly." He says while looking up and suddenly around 15 people vanish from the room.
"Congratulations on passing the test. Since only 30 of you remain here now. We will now move on to the Position Test. To determine your positions and information about the positions please follow me." He turns his back to us while saying this and walks away at a slow pace.
All of us follow him. The Regulars start talking amongst one another. Rimuru is explaining the Shinsu Quality stuff to Subaru and Kazuma.
While they are talking, the blue haired boy approaches me, he is around the same height as me. He smiles at me with an easygoing smile. He has a blue spear with him.
"Hey guys you seem pretty strong. Want to climb the Tower with me? Ah where are my manners? The name is Khun Marco Polo, nice to meet you." He says to us. My mouth twitches a little at his name. I mean the name is so unique.
"My name is Amar and these are my teammates." I say while pointing at Shishou and Freya. And then I point towards Rimuru and his group. "And I have decided to climb with them as well. So I think our team is full for now but maybe in the future?"
"Oh come on! The more the merrier! After all you can't have enough strong teammates. Let's ask that Arie girl too. Together our team will dominate the others as we climb." He says excitedly.
"Well maybe in the future. Not now." I just reject him. I mean there are no merits for me to team up with him at this point. He is too weak at the moment.
"And you ladies? Do you agree with him?" He asks Freya and Shishou. Freya just ignores him and Shishou looks at him for a bit and then scoffs.
"Hey there's no need to be so antagonistic you know. Oh well, see you later then Amar. My offer for team up still stands." He goes away towards the white haired girl. Come to think of it, weren't Arie, Khun and Ha Family not on good terms with each other? Since that Marco Polo guy has a nice expression on his face after a bit of talking. White haired girl is still expressionless. Is Arie family, a family of Kuuderes? Well it's food for thought.
"Darling, why are you looking at that white girl?" Freya asks me with narrowed eyes.
"Nothing special really? I was just wondering if that girl accepted being his teammate. And well she seems to be from the Strongest family in the Tower who are famous for their Swordsmanship. I know about some crazy people from that family, so I was just wondering about that." I reply to her truthfully. And she relaxes at my explanation. Did she think I was interested or something in that girl?
Honestly the girl is beautiful but that's not enough for me to get interested in a person, not anymore at least. After all I have Freya now, even though I haven't completely accepted our old relationship it's only a matter of time I do. And I will not betray her devotion to me. I mean the notion of harem sounds appealing to me as much as another guy, but from another perspective if Freya had a harem wouldn't that just enrage me? Considering that she has been loyal to me this unimaginably long time, the least I can do is be loyal to her. Otherwise won't I just be hypocritical fanfic protagonist? (A/N: But you are a hypocritical fanfic protagonist 😜)
While I was in my thoughts, Kazuma and Subaru come up to me. Freya moves a bit back with Shishou to give us space.
"Hey leader, so Rimuru told us about this Shinsu Quality stuff so can you tell us if we have any so that we can train them in case we have them." Kazuma comes close and whispered to me.
"Kazuma you have Theft Shinsu Quality and Subaru you have Death as the Shinsu Quality. I don't know how to train them, but I think it all depends on your imagination. At least that's how my Destruction Shinsu Quality worked." I tell them in a low voice. Kazuma and Subaru nod at this and go back to Rimuru.
Time passes on and we reach an auditorium like setting.
"Come in Regulars and please take a seat." He says while going towards the stage like platform in the front which has a screen at the center. The seats are arranged in a concentric manner in a semi circle. I take a seat, while Freya and Shishou sit on my left and right respectively. Rimuru sits on the row behind me. And that Marco Polo guy sits on the row in front of me at the far left side with the white haired girl. It seems they are going to team up I guess, surprisingly.
The blonde ba*tard just sits on the stage and starts brewing his instant coffee and starts talking. "All right Regulars, so the next test will be the Position Test. Since the climbing in the Tower is done through teams, the importance of positions is paramount. We will deal with 5 main positions namely Fisherman, Spear Bearer, Scout, Light Bearer and Wave Controller. There are more positions called special positions like Guide but they don't have anything to do with you. For more information on the positions, look at the screen behind me." As soon as he says that, the information about positions is displayed on the screen.
[FISHERMAN
Fisherman is said to be the epitome of all positions. The Position is suited for close to medium-range combatants and the main offence of the team. Fishermen tend to use Reel and Needles.
A Fisherman generally possess the most destructive power in man-to-man fights. They usually carry light arms, with no heavy weapons. Fishermen are divided into two classes: Reel Fishermen, who use Reel Inventories to attack their enemy at medium range, or Man-to-man Fishermen, who go directly on the offensive at close range.]
[SPEAR BEARER
Spear Bearer is the Position that attack from long distance and snipes the opponent using Spears as their primary weapon.
Spear Bearers are basically divided into three types:
1) Melee type: This type of Spear Bearer will engage their opponent in close combat fight and attack or pierce with their Spears.
2) Ranged type: This type of Spear Bearer will engage their opponent from long distance far away and attack by throwing their Spears.
3) Sniper type: This type of Spear Bearer will engage their opponent from long distance far away and attack with Sniper Rifle weapon as their "spear".]
[LIGHT BEARER
Light Bearer is a Position which uses exploring devices called Lighthouses to gain information on the battle or the surroundings.
Also, a Light Bearer tends to gather information and formulate plans with the help of such information as they command their Lighthouse. They are also called Lighthouse keepers because they protect the Lighthouse. However, a Light Bearer must still be able to fulfil both roles as there may be times when they are expected to assume another role.
Lighthouses are glowing devices made of Suspendium and are used for gathering information to aid the Light Bearer's teammates in battle. The more Suspendium the Lighthouse possess, the better the Lighthouse shall be.]
[SCOUT
The Scout is the Position for literally scouting. They move ahead of the group, observe the environment and situation. They also aid the Fishermen as secondary offence.
Scouts are usually lightly armed for the intention to be agile and swift in movement and thinking. They usually play the role of helping the Fishermen regain a foothold or keeping watch of the enemy's movements. However, in terms of frequency and risk of combat, a Scout is a step above the Fisherman as they are often the first to encounter the enemy. Scout is a position which regards mental strength as very important, so someone who possesses weak mental strength can't be a Scout.]
[WAVE CONTROLLER
The Wave Controller is a position that manipulates Shinsu in order to participate, directing the flow and outcome of the battle. However, this is merely a traditional definition and very few individuals actually fit these conditions. Most Wave Controllers have other direct battle abilities and commonly fill other positions.
There are basically two types of Wave Controllers: Attacking-type and Support-type, but this kind of categorising is not used much. Wave Controllers are described as the directors of battles. Most of them have direct battle abilities and commonly fill other Positions.]
The blonde ba*tard then just proceeds to brew his coffee. After he finishes brewing it, he starts speaking again. "By the way Regulars you will all be divided based on your positions for your next test. And only a limited number of you will pass based on the position. The number of people allowed to pass in different positions are now displayed on the screen."

"And now we will conduct an aptitude test for the selection of your position. You will also be asked for your position of choice in it as well. Please do take care and all the best." As he says this a test paper come in my hand. A test paper come in my hand with a pen, and it contains some battle situations related questions. I answer them as best as I could. I mean most were easy and some were a bit complex but nothing too hard. As for the desired position, I selected spear bearer because my spear throwing skills need to be honed more in my opinion and this is the best for me for now.
"Alright Regulars, times up. Hand in the papers, the results of the aptitude test will be shown in 30 minutes." He says while brewing more instant coffee in the same manner that eastern people brew tea. And our test papers vanish from our hands. I wonder if this teleportation is handled by administrators or machines. Most likely machines.
While waiting, I decide to check the chat group for some private soundless conversation.

So guys I am back. There might be some errors in the chapter sorry for that. Anyway, I kinda just am tired now and want to finish 2nd floor sooner than I expected from before. There will be more conspiracies in the Tower to make up for it, hopefully they will be good.
Also you guys really didn't want Amonified Kazuma huh. I was surprised a little bit, but then again it's less work for me in a way. I am still on fence if I should sell Beyonder potions of Error pathway to Kazuma through MC or not. Well we will see how the story goes, I will do what I want anyway.
Should I give any importance to that Khun boy and Arie girl? Or just move on? I mean I could go either way honestly. You guys tell me, though what I will do is in the end up to me. They won't be part of the chat group though.
