Chapter 8: 8:First Fall.

She couldn't see him, he had just dived deeper and even the more she struggled to look, he had just disappeared. She didn't know when she will see him again and if they'll ever meet. She had just hesitated to tell him thank you for making her feel like she still had a family. She focused on the direction he had been but not even a single part of him. How could she not thank him? She had been numb for all these years but within hours he had made her feel alive, how could she forget? Was she focused on revenge more than anything else?

She had left the deep waters, yes, but where she was standing the water level was on her ankles. She hesitated to move to the next step because it was just that step that would get her to the entire dry land. She glanced at the waters one more time, not sure of how she was going to survive without it, it always gave her a sense of belonging but now she was leaving it. But this was not supposed to make her mad right?

She turned around and faced the city, the buildings before her only a few meters away and she could see people from afar but not recognize them. It wasn't that dark because the moon shone brightly and there were lights from the buildings. It was only one step away from the entirely dry land, at first she was hesitating because she knew she was able to stand because her feet were still in the water and the breathers in her ankles were helping. She didn't know how this would be if she stepped on the dry land. She tried to move her legs but none of them were moving, she was stable on the water but she just couldn't move even one leg. She had never gotten out of it before or even practiced walking with human legs, how was she supposed to do this? She had to try and walk or at least move her legs because she was not going to keep on standing there.

She managed to gather all the strength she had, and with a lot of strain, she made the first step, the first leg, and then the second, and now she was standing on the dry land, with no drop of water, she felt her body dry up immediately just like a fish that had been removed from the water. She immediately looked down at the breathers on her ankles, only to find out that they had just disappeared. Even her hair dried up immediately but touching it, it felt so oily as a fish. Her legs couldn't take it anymore, they were shaking uncontrollably. She tried to keep them intact but they couldn't just hold on much longer, her heart was pounding faster that she couldn't even breathe, it felt like she was suffocating, she couldn't feel the air go through her nose, her feet hurt so much and they couldn't support her body any longer. What's worse is that she was struggling to catch her breath but her legs gave in before she could take the second step and in no minute she fell.

She didn't know for how long she had been lying there, but when she woke up she was breathing just quite well although it seemed awkward to her, turns out she only needed some time for the system to function just well. But all she could smell was the seawater, she could feel it calling for her, like a force drawing her towards it. She looked around and saw the direction she needed to head, with a lot of effort to get up, she managed to. She knew that if she stayed there any longer the water would come for her or either pull her back. Her legs were still not used to this and she still felt sharp pains in her feet. Her legs were so weak in such a way that she lost balance in any step she made because they trembled so much. She made two steps and she was down again, this time her hand was scratched by a rock and it bled. She didn't know what to do with it so she let it be, though the pain she felt was just something she was not used to. But this was nothing compared to what she felt when she lost her parents right? She understood that she wasn't supposed to be a weakling. She even considered crawling but this only left her with scratches on the soft palms of her hands and her knees.

After each fall, she looked back at the sea, and at least she could see that she was making an effort because it seemed further even though a normal person would just use less than five seconds to get where she was. Her legs were now becoming stronger but her feet were still hurting. Maybe because they were bare and each time she's making a step then they are the ones supporting her. Slowly by slowly, she was approaching the buildings. At first, she had thought that she would get to them the next day, but luck seemed to be on her side because even though she could walk fast, her legs were not trembling anymore. At first, she considered resting for a bit but she decided to continue walking, she let her anger take the best of her. Not showing on the outside, but it made her persevere and walk courageously even though it hurt like hell. She walked until she reached one of the buildings. It seemed like a super big hotel with an opening on the beach. When the lights struck her, she felt the itch in her eyes and fell again. She had never seen so much light before and this one hurt her eyes. She got up and opened her eyes slowly only to see that it was a car that had passed her.

This was her first time seeing one in reality. She looked at it as it disappeared and wondered how it works, though she didn't like it because it almost blinded her eyes. In the water, she was only used to the sun rays that came down, but never reached other parts that were almost always dark. But that light was still enough, and at night the moonlight was the one that ruled. Talking of the moon, she looked up at the sky and wished for success.
