Chapter 13: Her tears are like gold
"That is exactly what the top doctor is trying to do but there is another problem…"
"Spit it."
(Hesitating to speak) "All...th... the blood O-negative bags that we had in the storage have gone...m...m...missing?"
"WHAT!!"
"I am so sorry for being the bearer of bad news doctor Flo…"
"SAVE YOUR APOLOGIES FOR SOMEONE ELSE SCAR, THAT GIRL MUST NOT DIE IF SHE DOES ALL OF THE PEOPLE THAT WERE ON DUTY INCLUDING YOU WILL ACCOMPANY HER."
"I understand how you feel…"
"QUIET! I'M DRIVING RIGHT NOW, JUST KEEP HER ALIVE I DON'T CARE HOW YOU WILL DO IT."
She didn't wait to hear doctor Scar's response; she was so furious and disrespectfully hung up the call. Her mind was racing such that she couldn't control herself and accelerated the car like someone chased by a million demons. Thank goodness the road was a highway with no cameras, no police, and few cars. A journey that was supposed to take 30 minutes in just 10 minutes she was parked outside of the hospital. She got out of her car sprinting inside of the hospital, without minding about her reputation as one of the best and most classic doctors. She got to the emergency room and found two security guards by the door.
(Shouting) "Where were you idiots before the accident happened!? Why aren't you fired yet!?…"
"Doctor Flo please don't make a scene, come with me to my office."
That was doctor Ed who was the top doctor that took over the operation when things had turned upside down. He was coming out of the emergency room and took her by the hand leading her to his office.
(After giving her a sit) "Scar told me about your relationship with the patient and I understand how you feel, but don't forget that you are a doctor and you have been trained to control your emotions at all cost…"
"Ed, right now I don't care if I lose my job or not, stop spouting nonsense I am also a top doctor as you are, that girl is like family to me and I also signed her papers for the operation. Save me the lecture and tell what exactly happened and tell me how she is doing right now?"
(Calm) "Well, everything happened so quick…"
(Annoyed) "Just go straight to the point I don't have all day."
"Seems like the people that did this know more about this hospital, I mean the time when we change shifts and all the ins and out of the staff's activities and where we store things. They changed and stole the blood bags whilst we were all busy checking in and checking out as well as changing shifts. Looks like they infiltrated the whole hospital because it's not easy for an intruder to pass through this hospital's security…"
"Did you check the cameras?"
"We did both public and secret cameras were checked and nothing doesn't seem out of place, there were no glitches or any pauses. Also, we didn't see anyone that wasn't part of us on the cameras."
(Touching her forehead with her hand) "We have a very serious problem, how is Tasha?"
"She is stable now but we almost lost her, Scar was panicking and couldn't help much I don't know what had gotten into him. Her life is not threatened for now but the problem is we do not have enough blood O-negative. I used the blood bags that I had in my private storage but since we had to drain all the bad blood in her body and give her new clean blood at the same time we are running out of blood and time."
"I think I have more bags in my private storage too I will give them to you, I am not so sure if they will be enough since she requires double bags and I have only about 10. However, my concern right now is Tasha's safety…"
"That's worrying me too because not only did they change the blood bags they also injected her with another dose of the same poison that was found in her blood yesterday."
"What!"
"Yes, we ran all necessary tests and examinations, the poison is the same, and thank goodness this time its reaction was slower than that of the blood."
"Thanks, Ed, please come and collect the blood bags, I think the higher-ups will be sending more bags soon. I am running out of time and I have another friend that I need to check on." She said leaving doctor Ed's office and heading for hers.
After handing over the blood bags to doctor Ed she went on to check on Lisa whom she found in high spirits.
"You look so well today," she said sitting on the bed that Lisa was sitting on.
"Yeah, and you look so terrible…"
"Is it that obvious?"
"Yeah, what's going on?"
"I will not beat around the bush, it's Tasha…"
She went on and explained to Lisa everything that had occurred earlier, Lisa couldn't control her tears she stood and began to pace up and down in the wardroom that she was in.
"We have no option, call Anne."
"Huh, what am I supposed to say, remember I told you that I lied to her earlier…?"
"Tasha is no longer safe here and Anne is the only person who is capable of protecting her so go ahead and call her now."
"But…"
She couldn't go ahead with what she wanted to say; Lisa gave her a scary eye that made her shut it and obey her commands. However, she couldn't get through Anne's cellphone.
"It's not going through."
"Make sure you keep trying until you get hold of her."
She continued pacing and biting her fingers.
"Calm down why are you so nervous?"
"CALM DOWN, DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IS AT STAKE HERE? If anything happens to Tasha I am as good as dead. Midnight will not spare me at all."
"No one is killing anyone just take it easy..."
"You don't understand, Anne is heartless."
"I understand how you are feeling..."
"No don't give me that crap, (folding her arms) Tasha got poisoned right under my nose, tell me do you understand how I feel?"
(No answer)
"What did Tasha's report say again?"
"She was poisoned by an unknown poison, according to tests the poison was supposed to kill her slowly and then show its symptoms later and at that time it will be too late to cure her. However, something triggered the poison and it reacted so quickly that it began to corrode some of her internal organs. It seems like her enemy or enemies are very heartless and they want nothing but her death"
"So you signed for the operation to go on?"
"Yeah I did, what exactly is going on Lisa I am also curious how Tasha got poisoned.
"Huh! What kind of a question is that and what are you insinuating?"
"Nothing, but since you are the one that lives with her at least you should know. Besides, if this is to be made a police case I'm afraid you are the first suspect, also you have been abnormally nervous what is it?"
(Disappointed speaking with a breaking voice) "Is...is th-at who I a-m in your eyes, how...how long have you known me or Tasha for you to pass such a judgment?"
"I am sorry I do not mean to hurt you or your feelings but I am just trying to give you facts and how the situation might turn out."
"Just try to get hold of Anne, also get me some food and clothes I stink."
"What's up with your tone it is so commanding and scary?"
Lisa didn't say a word, she just gave her a talking eye, which made her go and get the food and clothes that she had brought and forgot in her car. Time progressed and everything seemed to be stable and okay at the hospital. Around 9 pm that's when Anne called.
"Stupid doctor, I realized that I missed your call, did you get hold of my brats?"
"Hey, Anne…ah..yeah I…I did…"
"One of my sources told me that they are not at home so where did they go?"
"Well it's ah…ehm…please do not get angry because I have news that I need you to be attentive to."
"Just spit it I don't have all the time."
"Tasha…"
She explained all the events that had happened since yesterday as well as the current events.
(Sobbing) "You guys are idiots but I am the worst b*st*rd that ever lived. I can't even understand what I was doing all this while. Will Tasha ever forgive me after this? I…I.." She couldn't finish what she wanted to say, she broke down and hung up the call.
"What did she say?"
"She was cursing herself, broke down, and hung up the call."
"That is not good."
"Why?"
"That means war is coming, her tears are like gold and if anyone causes her to shed them, they will pay with an interest on top."
"So, you were serious after all?"
(Smirking) "In the past, a group of boys was hired to kidnap one of her sisters. They r*ped and sent her home wounded and traumatized. The police were not taking any action it's like they were bribed. She single-handedly hunted for the boys and sent them to their homes in pieces."
(Confused and scared) "So how come she isn't in jail?"
"Because she doesn't leave traces behind, her job is clean and perfect. That's not all, I will tell you more some other time, your phone is ringing."
"Stupid doctor, my boys are coming to take Tasha in about an hour, can you put the phone on loudspeaker." She did as she was instructed.
"Lisa, you will go with the boys and hand them Tasha's traveling documents also Flora sorry to trouble you but can you please accommodate Lisa until I am back?"
"Okay, but it's expensive to fly a patient, and also moving her might cause serious damage and her life is still at risk…"
"The people that I'm sending are more professional and trustworthy than you guys and so are the people flying and attending to her on the plane. Another thing, Flo, do you know me? If you ever saw me did, I look poor to you?"
"I…" She couldn't say what she wanted because Lisa stopped her.
"That's it for now, we will talk more once I get to that side," (hangs up the call).
