Chapter 11: Caught in the Act
During times when Gerald does not have basketball practices or anything to do with her, Brielle spends her time studying or reading in the library. Brielle has always found joy in taking her time to study in the library as it helps her focus more than studying at home.
Brielle thinks it has something to do with her brain conditioning while she is in the school premises. Most of the time, Brielle is acquainted by her best friend, Jazz.
Jazz Gonzales is Brielle's school best friend. Just like her, they are both book enthusiasts and can carry out intellectual conversation. She loves to study as well.
Wearing a pair of thick eyeglasses, Jazz has her head low, eyebrows furrowed, and hands swiftly turning off the book she is reading. They are sitting across each other in the dead silent library. Only a few students are hanging around this time, most are just taking advantage of the library's serenity to sleep.
Jazz impatiently closed her book and took off her eyeglasses and placed it back inside its case, "Brielle, should we go and grab a snack?" Motioning her hand outside, suggesting. Brielle agreed to her and began putting her pencil case, books, and phone inside her backpack.
"Sure! I have been craving French fries since earlier," Brielle placed her bag on her shoulder and paused, "But can we drop by the bathroom first? I really need to go," She contorted her face uneasily.
Jazz nodded her head, "Yes, sure. I also have to go." She said.
At this time of the day in the late afternoon, the majority of the students already went home and only a few are left in the campus. Brielle was following behind Jazz who was taking the lead on the way towards the bathroom, keychains on her bag created distinct noises which Brielle finds cute.
Jazz slightly turned around to face Brielle, "Where's Gerald? I haven't seen you guys together lately," She has been itching to ask Brielle because usually, they would go and leave the campus together most of the time. But this time, it has been three consecutive days that she has not seen them together.
Shrugging her shoulders and slightly curving her lips upwards Brielle answered, "I don't know. He has been so cold to me these past few days, it's disturbing. I sort of did something that made him mad last week," Brielle honestly responded. She is a self-confessed open book, utterly comfortable letting others know what's going on with her life especially with Jazz.
For four years, Jazz and Brielle have been close acquaintances due to the fact that they often represent their school for various competitions which require a lot of hours spent together for practices, study sessions, and mock contests.
Jazz is a competitive and an artsy girl who seems cold but is extremely compassionate towards people she loves. She has this sporty physique which can be attributed to her playing in the school volleyball team. Sports is one thing Brielle is bad at.
Jazz formed her lips into an 'O' as a response to Brielle's not-so-shocking revelation. Throughout their relationship, Jazz already got used to stories like Gerald getting upset, getting mad and so on so being missing an action does not really shock her at all. Personally, she thinks Gerald is a jerk and that Brielle is too good for him.
Oftentimes, she would try to see things in Brielle's perspective but she just could not understand and comprehend what Brielle saw in him that made her fall for him. To her, brains and intellect do matter in finding a potential boyfriend.
Aggressively twisting the female bathroom's doorknob, Jazz was caught off guard seeing a couple making out inside the bathroom. She covered her mouth realizing that it was Gerald and an unknown girl because she was on her back.
They were making moaning sounds which made the self-proclaimed spinster in the future almost throw up. They were busily kissing torridly to even notice Jazz witnessing their clandestine moment.
Brielle raised her eyebrows, "What's going on? Why did your face turn pale? Have you seen a ghost or something? Can you move over? I really can't hold it anymore, Jazz." She laughed and lightly shoved Jazz away, who was too weak in the knees to even protest and prevent Brielle from going inside.
As much as she hates Gerald, there is a part of Jazz who does not want Brielle to see what's inside because she knows it would hurt her big time.
At that very moment, Brielle silently gasped and she could feel her lips turn white. The soles of her feet, hands and knees instantly turned cold as her heart seemed to have stopped beating with what she saw.
Her ears produced a solid ringing sound, making her dizzy and lose balance if it weren't for Jazz who held her from behind. Gerald and the girl are kissing each other like it was the end of the world, completely unaware that his girlfriend is shattered into pieces from behind.
Brielle always knew Gerald was trouble but she didn't think he would go this far. She felt like an idiot at this very moment. She felt like an uncontrolled bull who rejoices and gets attracted to red flags.
They are still shamelessly kissing and from where Brielle and Jazz are, Gerald and the girl did not even notice their presence. Brielle was taken off-guard to even make a sound. Deep inside, she wanted to slap Gerald so hard.
She wanted to grab the girl's hair and dip her face into the toilet until she got a taste of the toilet water. Of course, everything was just in her mind as she always had this body reaction of freezing when facing compromising situations. She was too stunned to even blink as if her feet were rooted to the ground.
"What are you doing?" Brielle whispered as she weakly turned to Jazz who was recording them kissing with her phone. Jazz placed her pointer finger on her lips, automatically silencing Brielle who unwittingly shed a tear.
