Chapter 2: Arrogant Man

Jordan walked to Michael's room, he opened the unlocked door and saw a handsome man reading a business book who only wore thigh-length shorts lying on a recliner on the balcony of the room.

"Do I need to clean up my brother's suitcase?" Jordan sat across from Michael.

"I'll call Fanny." Michael is about to take the phone but Jordan holds his hand.

"What is it?" asked Michael in surprise.

"Mama will do it and don't let your secretary go too deep." Jordan looked at Michael, he understood very well his brother who was always served like a king since birth.

"My secretary is a maid who will do all the work." Michael went back to reading the book.

"Are you going to make your wife like a servant?" Jordan asked.

"No, she will be the Queen who only needs to spend my money." Michael smiled.

"What kind of woman do you like?" Jordan picked up a thick book that was on the table.

"How about you?" Michael asked back.

"Like Mama, gentle, friendly, loves children and always smiling with tan but light skin." Jordan smiled.

"Looks like we have the same taste." Michael put the book on the table.

"It's not usually big brother being a copycat." Jordan narrowed his eyes.

"I have to imitate my sister who has a lot of experience with women." The tall and white man got up from the chair, he wore a sky blue shirt to cover his sexy and well-groomed body.

"Where are you going?" Jordan watched his brother.

"Go for a walk." The strong hand buttoned his shirt.

"How about we go to Chinatown?" Jordan looks excited.

"What for?" Michael asked.

"Men don't believe in God." Jordan tapped Michael on the shoulder.

"Who exactly is brother? Me or you?" Jordan came out of Michael's room.

"Jo, is your sister all right?" Mama asked when she saw Jordan coming down the stairs.

"What can El do other than take care of business?" Jordan sat in the living room.

"There isn't any." Mama smiled and walked over to the over-pampered first son.

"Where is my son going?" Mama saw Michael in front of the bedroom door.

"Jo, take me to Chinatown to play." Michael looked at his mother.

"Okay, don't come home too late." The woman snapped her fingers for Michael to look down and he could give her son a kiss on the cheek.

"I can never argue with Mama." Michael saw Mama who had come into the room to pack the suitcase.

"Are you coming along?" Jordan asked.

"Yes, tomorrow I will go to Bangka and can't spend time with you." Michael threw his car keys at Jordan.

Jordan drove to Gladak which is one of the areas known as Jakarta's Chinatown. Michael closed his eyes enjoying the journey by sleeping and making his younger brother a personal driver. Jordan could only shake his head at the Bossy nature of his brother.

Michael is the number one man wherever he is as well as in the house, Mama used to treat him like a king who always obeyed all his wishes and made humans to be served.

"What about Cleya?" Jordan asked without looking at Michael.

"I'm not interested in flirting and attention-seeking women," Michael replied.

"Clya is a career woman and is like a princess." Jordan smiled.

"I want to marry a housewife like Mama, good at cooking, caring for my husband and children lovingly." Michael glanced at Jordan.

"Mama is a gentle but firm woman and when angry like a lion," continued Michael.

"As a rich boss and never been in a lower-middle environment, how could you meet such a woman?" Jordan looked at Michael.

"Bangka Island is only inhabited by ordinary people, right?" Michael straightened his seat.

"Do you intend to find women on the island of Bangka?" Jordan pulled the car into the parking lot.

"Mama is a woman from Bangka Island." The sharp eyes hidden behind the dark glasses looked around.

"Why are we going to a place like this?" Michael looked at Jordan.

"We will go pray to God." Jordan got out of the car.

"What? I can't believe any of this." Michael unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the car door. The man saw a very beautiful temple.

Visiting Chinatown Jakarta, of course there will be many temples or monasteries, one of which is Vihara Dharma Bhakti or also known as the Jin De Yuan Temple. This monastery itself is one of the old monasteries in the Chinatown area of Gladak and is a tourist destination and also a pilgrimage, especially for people who adhere to the teachings of Confucianism.

Approaching major holidays such as Vesak and Chinese New Year, this temple will be very crowded and often enlivened by various social events or traditional Chinese art performances. Not only a place of worship for the Vihara, around the Chinatown area of Gladak, you can find a place of worship for Catholics that is quite unique, namely the Church of Santa Maria de Fatima which was built with oriental-style architecture like temples in China. With its typical Chinatown architecture and ornaments, of course this church is one of the most interesting religious tourism destinations in Chinatown Jakarta. In fact, this church also has a special schedule for mass held in mandarin.

"Come on." Jordan smiled to see Michael who was still silent in front of the car.

"Is this place really quiet?" Michael walked over to Jordan.

"Of course, this is not a worship schedule and it is still far from the date of religious celebrations." Jordan stepped into the temple with shades of red. Red lanterns adorn the front of the place of worship so beautifully.

"What are you going to do here?" Michael looked around so calmly.

"Pray," Jordan answered.

"Just you, I don't want to." Michael stopped his footsteps.

"When will you believe in the existence of God? You are a smart man." Jordan looked sadly at Michael, he didn't know what made his brother not have religion in his heart. Michael's attitude that he didn't want to do all the religious rituals forced Jordan to replace him.

"I don't know, I don't know," Michael replied.

"I'll come in." Jordan left Michael walking towards a place beside the temple, he was attracted to a statue that looks like a woman who will fly into the sky and leave her partner. The man stepped over the small pond that surrounded the statue.

"Do not touch!" A prohibition sentence that Michael hated so much. Those sharp eyes looked towards the source of the sound. Michael's hand was right on the flower held by the statue of a man and woman. Da wanted to know what kind of flower it was.

"Why can't I touch it!?" Michael snapped at the old man.

"It is a statue of forbidden love." The old man's body trembled at the sharp gaze and loud voice from Michael.

"What will happen because I have touched it?" asked Michael angrily.

"You will fall in love with a woman who doesn't want you at all because of your differences and you will have a hard time getting that woman," explained the old man, still looking down.

"What? No woman would turn down an El." Michael strangled the man by the neck with great emotion, two sentences he really didn't want to hear.

"Excuse me, sir." The man had difficulty breathing.

"They're all stupid myths." Michael took his hand roughly from the old man's neck and he fell to the floor.

"What are you doing?" Jordan helped the man in monk clothes stand up.

"Destroy this statue!" Michael's hand touched the face of the female statue with emotion.

"Are you crazy?!" Jordan glared at Michael.

"Listen Jordan! Why is there a stupid statue like this for?" Michael grabbed his brother by the collar.

"Why are you emotional? What's wrong with the statue?" Jordan held Michael's hand who was silent.

"Why is there a forbidden statue in a place like this?" Michael withdrew his hand.

"You should read religious history books." Jordan approached the old man.

"Forgive my brother." Jordan bowed his head in salute and apologized.

"What are you doing?" Michael pulled Jordan roughly.

"Listen El, we have to respect God's servants." Jordan glared at Michael.

"You taught me!" Michael met Jordan's gaze even more sharply.

"We should go home, it's all my fault." Jordan handed the envelope to the old man who was still standing.

"Irritating." Michael walked briskly to the car.

"Again, please forgive my brother." Jordan smiled.

"Listen son, this statue is not a myth, your brother will fall in love with a woman who may even hate her very much." The Old Man held Jordan's hand.

"I wish I could witness the miracle." Jordan smiled.

"Ah, will my brother get that woman?" Jordan asked curiously.

"It depends on the effort." The Old Man tapped Jordan on the shoulder.

"Okay thank you. I will follow my brother's love journey." Jordan bowed again and walked to his car. He saw Michael lying in the driver's seat with his eyes closed.

"I didn't know your temper was so bad." Jordan started his car leaving the temple.

"Are you hungry?" Jordan asked.

"Whatever," Michael answered simply, he kept thinking about the monk's words earlier. There is a sense of worry that is quite disturbing.

"We'll find food here." Jordan parked his car in Gloria Alley.

"What is this place again?" Michael glared at Jordan.

"If you don't want to get off, stay in the car." Jordan immediately got out of the car,

"I'm hungry too." Michael was very upset.

"What place is this?" Michael repeated the question with a frown.

"Very crowded," said the arrogant man again and got back into the car.

"Base." Jordan snorted at his brother. He walked to the Es Kopi shop and bought two glasses.

"Hello Sir, do you want me to tell you a fortune?" An old woman stood by the car door with the window open.

"Why do I keep meeting stupid people?" Michael glared at the woman.

"It's just a myth!" Michael snapped.

"Can Madame tell me?" Jordan put two glasses of iced coffee on top of the car.

"Of course, young man." The woman touched Jordan's palm.

"A complicated love story," the woman said.

"It means?" Jordan asked curiously.

"You will meet women who you really fall in love with beautifully but have to compete with strong people." The woman clapped Jordan's hand.

"Madam, I have many lovers." Jordan withdrew his hand.

"But none of them you really love." The middle-aged woman in traditional Chinese clothes smiled.

"What about my brother?" Jordan grabbed Michael's hand.

"What are you doing?" Michael looks annoyed and tries to pull his hand away but Jordan holds him firmly.

"Hmm, a possessive man who will fall for a woman who hates him." The woman smiled.

"What?" Michael stared intently and hatefully at the woman.

"Thank you." Jordan took the woman away from Michael and gave him the money.

"He is your love rival," the woman said and left.

"What?" Jordan was surprised by the vaguely sounding sentence.

"What did that woman say?" asked Michael excitedly.

"You are my love rival." Jordan gives the Takkie Iced Coffee to Michael.

"That's impossible, none of your lovers catch my eye." Michael smiled and took a sip of coffee.

"I haven't even met that woman yet," Jordan said sitting down next to his brother.

"Would you give that woman to me if we loved the same woman?" Jordan asked looking serious at Michael.

"What do you mean? We can't fall in love with the same woman. There are many women in this world." Michael smiled.

"Why not? We have the same criteria and based on the prophecy we will become love rivals." Jordan finished his drink.

"Listen Jordan, we live in modern times, don't believe in such things." Michael handed Jordan an empty glass to throw it away.

"Hmm." Jordan took the glass and got out of the car to throw it in the trash.

"Find a fancy restaurant, I'm very hungry." The man smiled.

"Okay." Jordan immediately drove the car to the restaurant according to Michael's orders.

A visit to Gladak's Chinatown will not be complete without exploring its culinary delights. One of the legendary culinary destinations typical of Chinatown Jakarta is Gang Gloria. A variety of typical Chinatown culinary can be found in this area.
