Chapter 4.
"Mara was my best friend" I replied
"Sorry for your loss" the female officer said calmly with a kind smile.
"Did mara have anyone who hated her passively" he asked
"Yea, um Maddie from the cheer leading squad, but she wasn't at the party or in town, as a matter of fact, she's in Hawaii at the moment"
I said.
"I see" he said
"Any other person?" The officer asked
"None that I can think of!"
I said
"Was mara close to anyone at the party?"
He asked
My mom stood there kinda shocked to hear that I attended the party.
"Um yea, Cole Griffin" I said.
The female officer took some notes down.
"Where we're you at the time of the murder?"
He asked
"At home" I replied
"Any alibi to testify?" He asked
"Yea, everyone, I left the party by 1:15am"
I said getting kind of bored.
"Why'd you leave so early?" He asked
I felt really embarrassed answering this question
"Um, we we're playing Truth or dare, and mara kissed my crush" I said
My face flushed red as I confessed in front of my mom.
"Thank you for cooperating with us, we'd get back to you" he said and they left
Mom grounded me after that for three days though.
I went to my bedroom, and plugged in the camera. I switched on my phone and was immediately greeted with lots of consolations.
I ignored them and went straight to mara's dm.
"Keira" send
"I'm sorry for what I did, please help I think someone is in my home" send
Voice message 00:21 at 4:09am.
I was really anxious to play this voice notes from her, I downloaded it anyways.
"Keira, I'm sorry for what happened, but I need your help, everyone's left, but I hear footsteps downstairs, now the hallway, omg Keira I'm gonna call the police right no...." There was a bang as though someone had hit the door so hard "Arhhhhhhhhh" that was it, that was it, I was the last person she messaged, why'd she scream? Who was with her? From the voice notes she was clearly drunk and this person had his way to her. I wasn't thinking straight at all, five days later, I was at the funeral of my best friend, nothing hurts more than that, but Mrs Zane had it worst.
After the priest finished praying for her soul and all, we're given 10 minutes to see her one last time
I didn't wanna walk up to the alter just to see her body, after everyone saw her, Mrs Zane hugged me tightly
"Go ahead" she said
I took a deep breathe and walked to the altar, her coffin was White with gold coffin, she would've loved black, lying motionless in the coffin was mara, she looked pale, she looked not mara...
Her eyes we're closed of course, and her lips looked thin.
The pink color it had was coated with red lipstick.
Mara would never, I mean never wear lipstick, she was a lipgloss Stan, the only lipstick she would use is nude, and she'd still slimmer some gloss on it.
Her face looked like a life-sized porcelain doll, her cheeks had a rosy colour, the contour and highlight was a different shade, she was mixed, half Asian and half Canadian so she had like a golden brown skin when she was alive, now she looked like a blonde who stayed under the sun for too long.
They should've let me do her make up urgg.
But what really got me was the dress, it was really really long, like a 1920's outfit, I bet mara would laugh out loud if she had the chance to
"Hey baby, this b*tch is at your funeral" I said in a whisper reffered to Maddie.
Her face and movement stayed still, her neck had a extra layer of concealer, maybe that where she was slashed..
"I'm sorry I couldn't save you mara, I'm sorry, I really love you and always wished you were by my side daily, I love you, we're gonna meet soon, hopefully" I said trying to hide my emotions.
I put the friendship bracelet I was supposed to give her in the party on her wrist and Left.
I didn't wanna stay until they put her body in the ground, but mom let me go anyways.
It didn't take long to get that done and soon enough everyone started leaving.
"Keira" I heard someone call me, I turned to see it was Cole
I felt butterflies in my tummy as he briskly walked over to me.
"Hey" I said, my voice very raspy due to crying for a long while.
