Chapter 14: Nihil: Type C Archetype

The term 'Nihil' for this kind of monster came from the cultivated beliefs of the City, that everything outside of our iron-fisted civilization was perceived as nonexistent.

A being that was believed to appear and born from nothing, Nihil was a real stretch of a word that was based on zero scientific aspect.

Nothing was able to be created from nothing, the law of the universe didn't allow that.

But rather than looking to be scientific, that specific word was believed to be used as a coping mechanism for humanity.

For humanity didn't accept the unfiltered mirror to glance at itself.

Type C Nihil.

Chronicle.

While many of Nihil didn't necessarily bore resentment against humanity, their existence would always end up being destructive.

And it was always the case for the Chronicle Archetype.

For starters, Nihil have four grand Archetypes that could easily be analyzed and differentiated on the field by matching them to a certain criteria about their looks, capability, and behavior.

Chronicle Nihil was one of those four.

This type of Nihil had somehow carried an essence and piece from the ruins of Humanity.

From the action, result, and process, these Nihils carry the 'Will' of the past and have the desire to repeat the history.

This Archetype was somewhat easy to detect, as long as they matched the requirements as follow~

Capable of Human's speech, but not a proper interaction.

Didn't actively seek the victim and more aimlessly rampaging throughout the vicinity.

Capable of changing form through multiple stages of exposed combat.

They could also have sapient form but not necessarily, for they at least need only one body part related to humans to be classified as Chronicle.

For the one within my frame, the giant skull was the last requirement for it to be classified as Chronicle. Quite gory, isn't it?

The potential of threat and destruction they carried depends on this 'Will' that they bore.

As for what this 'Will' was actually about.

Only speculations have been made so far.

"It seemed like it had already reached its last stage."

One of the men from the Streetlight Talon walked to the front view of everyone that was gazing at the hellish view. He opened his gas mask.

His blond hair was wavy, he had a peach fuzz mustache. Those signatures were really memorable to anyone who lived within this District for a long time.

Sighing, he threw his hand to the front with a fatigued look.

"I, Toronto of the Streetlight Talon, announce that the Nihil suppression has failed!

"It will be only a matter of time until the 'Head' of this District asks for the 'Landsknecht' to wipe everything in this area.

"All in all, we will pay for all of the trouble for every Office that supports us. As usual, if any people from the 'Association' asked any diplomatic question, all of you are free to preach that you're not in relationships with us to avoid the fight."

After that, most of the people began packing their weapons and tools. Removing their gas masks and sighing with disappointment.

The representative of the Offices started gathering around Toronto for the business, while here I am, not doing anything much other than watching.

"Haaah~" The dagger-giver woman removed her gas mask as she showed her relief, revealing very tired concentric golden eyes with bags above her silly grin. "If not for the Yugens, we would have amassed enough force to bring it down. Guess that's just our luck…

"So say, tall man, want to join our ragtag organization of misunderstood vigilantes in exchange for hard cash? Come on, I know that you wanted to~!"

Said the person who was ten centimeters taller than me. For the record, I'm 194 cm in height.

"Don't worry about her," said the maintenance woman before lightly chuckling. "She always does that to every person that has the slightest potential. Even someone incapable like me was approached by her."

Her voice was soft and high pitched, a little bit different from what I would have expected from her adult-like appearance.

Hmm, I wonder where I've heard it before.

"Woah, woah," the shady green-ponytail recruiter immediately reacted to that statement, "Who said that you're incapable? My eyes never lied to me! And now look at how you become!"

Toronto approached, his face was more serious in contrast to the green-ponytail woman.

"Let's not joke around and hurry up. Pack your tools and weapons to the headquarters. We have no time to waste."

"Woah, woah, woah! Why in a big hurry, grin-less 'Cheshire'? Are ya scared of the Landsknecht that much?"

Toronto's face didn't soften for a single bit, as he kept staring at her.

"... We also suffered a lot of casualties, so it's better to move out as soon as we can to not let our colleagues die in vain."

The green-haired woman was puzzled. "You're kidding, right? Everyone that is joining this suppression is at least stronger than Grade 6."

Toronto didn't budge as he stared at her.

That was the moment her silly grin dispersed. "... Give me the sitrep."

"The Yugens brought hundreds of armaments with lethal poison. We have lost twenty two people to those drugged thorns."

"I see."

Her face looked extremely pissed. Without any regard for her leader, she walked away with a clenched fist, approaching the giant cleaver that was maintained by the woman with purple bob hair that was backing away.

Before she could get her hand on the grip, Toronto dashed and grabbed her neck and slammed her onto the ground, immediately pinning her hand that was retaliating.

"Gilga, you're fatigued, how could you even take them down if you can't even react to my action."

"Tch! Let me free this instance! I want to skin those Yugen bastards!"

"Exactly as I said, you green-headed dumb woman. You will only end up killing yourself."

One could easily assess how powerful they are, by looking at how she was unscathed by that powerful slam that banged the ears of everyone within one hundred meters.

While the leader was suppressing the green beast, the woman that was maintaining Gilga's cleaver was staring at the sheath that was strapped to my back.

Her black eyes then stared at my masked face aggressively.

"That sword sheath is the one that my friend usually uses, why are you with it?"

Many of the other Streetlight Talons began to stare at me, even Toronto and Gilga who had just been helped to stand from the slam.

Eventually, the woman in front of me began to take a strange marble from her pocket before crushing it in-between her thumb and index. Numerous floating purple fires then manifested behind her, flickering and warming to get ready to be launched.
