Chapter 2: Jamais Vu
Jamais Vu- the experience of being unfamiliar with a person or situation that is actually very familiar.
I groan waking up with a huge headache. Slowly opening my eyes I look around the unfamiliar setting. Noticing 2 pills on the end table next to the bed im on I take them and get up. Stretching my arms looking around more. I look to a wall with a lot of pictures, I grumble realizing I was in Amari's house, patting down my pants looking for my phone I find it in the back pocket I pull it out to see the time.

- Sunday 13-
I let out a sigh knowing Mari's parents won't be back till the 15 I walk out of the bedroom, looking for mari and mp. " Yo" I call out looking around finding them at the table with 3 cups of coffee. " Why are you so loud dude" Mp says groaning slightly I chuckle at his disposition taking a seat at the table. " Morning Mari" I mutter taking a sip of my coffee. " Morning " her soft voice utters and that's how our afternoon went drinking coffee in a comfortable and much needed silence. After drinking our coffee we took our showers and put on clean clothes.
" Hey no more clubbing for a while" I say remembering our mischievous adventures from last night. Crashing down on Mari's be next to her I pll out my phone. Making sure I didn't drunkenly text the few contacts I have, letting out a sign finding out I didn't. " So what do the deadliest trio have planned for today" mp says while me and mari snicker at the nickname. I look towards mari for an answer. " I don't know maybe a movie or something, I know we gotta stop by Kai's house to get the rest of his shit so maybe after that a movie and lunch?" Mari says shrugging. I look towards mp with a approving look and we both nod agreeing. " Well we shoul probably get going seeing as we slept half the day away and we took forever showering" Mari states glaring at the two of us for that last bit. I check the time again

" Yeah sounds good, to the wicked witch's lair" I say referring to my adopted mother, which I know that sounds really bitchy but in my defense she deserves it, and you may be wondering how. Well ever since my father basically threw me away I was put into foster care. Janice Laner ended up adopting me, a classic case at first it was fine pretty great actually, but in the growing weeks of me still get accustomed to my new home she grew- cold, dark she would have her husband ricky beat me for the smallest mistakes. I remember this one time when me, mari, and mp went out for the movies and got caught in traffic due to a accident so I got home late and boy was there hell to pay.
Flash Back-
" Shit Janice is going to kill me " I say as we pull into my neighborhood. " Calm down dude you'll be find just tell her we got caught in traffic" mp says not worried. Which I don't blame him he doesn't know the deep secrets of the Laner household, but I do. My anxiety spikes when we pull into my drive way. " See ya" " Peace" Mari and Mp speak I send them a nod not trusting my own voice. Not trusting the voice in my head that tells me to get back in that car and tell them to floor it. Readying myself for whats to behold when I walk through the doors. Pulling out my keys to unlock the door before I could unlock the door it swings open. Looking up I see fire in the eyes of Ricky Laner.
He pulls me in the house by my collar throwing me to the floor. I groan as my face meets the floor. " Where the hell were you" Janice speaks with venom dripping from her mouth. " T- there was tr- traffic on the w- way bac- back. A c-car acc- accident" I say with fear clouding my eyes. I really hope my funeral service is nice. Within seconds a kick is delivered straight to my ribs, I hunch over groaning at the pain, but I guess ricky had other plans. He pulled me by my collar and sent waves of punches. All I could do is scurim an scream in his grip. Feeling a warm liquid drip down my face, tasting a metallic liquid in my mouth I slowly loose consciousness. Not before Ricky drops me delivering 2 more kicks to my ribs. I let out a painful scream before going unconscious.
Everything goes black an yet the only thing I can seem to think of is a unknown voice in my head repeating ' 6 crowns' over and over. When I finally come to I quietly call Mari an mp knowing there together seeing as mp basically lives with her. They finally pick me up. " Holy shit Kai what the hell happen to you" mp says lifting me up into the car. I hiss at the sudden movement. Groaning from the pain in my ribs. When mp finally gets me in the car I lean my head back into the headrest and move my body until im comfortable but not without a few groans. I slip into unconsciousness, the fading sound of my name being called. There goes that voice again but this time it's repeating the name ' Rylan Wright' over and over.
" I think he's waking up" I hear someone says. I groan at the light coming into my sight. Blinking away looking around I try to get up, but someone's hand stops me. " Kai you have 2 bruised ribs take it easy " Mari says to me in a soft voice. Laying back down on her lap I rub my eyes " what happen" I speak my voice hoarse from yelling and screaming. "That's what we wanna know buddy, I mean you just text a 911 outta the blue and when we pick you up you look like you had a run end with joey the kangaroo. My chuckle turns into coughs. I tell them what happen and what Janice has been doing. Tears filled my eyes. " Kai- baby why didn't you tell us" Mari utters softly. I look down in shame " I thought you guys woul see me differently- see me as weak" I mutter.
Flash back over-
Bruised 2 ribs, got a black eye, and a scar going across my eyebrow that night. That wasn't even the worst of it but it was the first night mari and mp found out about the beating. I tell them everything but the thought of telling them that scared me. I didn't want them to think differently of me. Im glad they didn't and for that they're my bestfriends and I love them more then anything. Pulling into the driveway I unbuckle my seatbelt. " We'll go in there with you Kai" Mari speaks, I send her a smile nodding. Unlocking the door with the key I still have I run up to the room I stay'd in. Grabbing the bags I had in the closet we start packing my stuff. Grabbing all my clothes and the boxes I already had ready, we take trips back and fourth to the car and back. When we were nearly one and out of there with my luck janice and ricky come back, while we were carrying boxes down the staris. ' fuck' I mutter, refusing to make eye contact with me we act as if there not even there. Surprisingly they say nothing and just watch.
After loading all the boxes I take my keys out of my pocket. Going back inside I leave them on a counter, turning back to the door I leave. " You'll be back Krew- you always come back" Janice says with snark in her voice. My steps falter tears starting to swell in my eyes, I work up the courage to finally speak. " go fuck yourself Janice" I say with confidence before leaving but not before slamming the door for dramatics. Getting in the car quietly I feel mp hand on my shoulder, I break down. Mari hugs me rubbing my back I cry into her shoulder. Mp somehow joins the hug. The only thoughts running in my head are how much I love these two, and how much they love me. After the hug I wipe my eyes and chuckle before saying " I told janice to go fuck herself" smilling at the two reactions. Mp pats my back approving and Mari smiles. " Im proud of you Kai" Mari says before starting the car. " To the movies. " mp says. " Yo by the way what movie are we even watching?" I ask, Mari smillings. " Spiderman of couse" Mp says. I roll my eyes sitting back in my seat.
