Chapter 3: 3

The car drove slowly from the yard, leaving quite a thick layer of dust, but that didn't bother the two women. The Syahnas family is still tidying up the things inside. He has two daughters who are still in elementary school, and they must return to their hometown because their daughter will start school tomorrow.

"Yes, auntie. I want to live here. I feel bored living in the city. Besides, in this place, I feel I can be close to my father."

The gazes of the two of them just stared straight at the dusty road ahead. Empty. With each other's thoughts. Syahnaz is the only close relative of Shanaya's father. Then only the woman who seemed to care the most about Shanaya now.

"You can, right?" Shanaya asked then looked at her aunt, full of hope.

"Of course, dear. After all, this house will be empty after Grandpa leaves, right? My aunt is happy if you want to stay here. Later when the children are off, we will come here again," said Syahnas looking back at his nephew.

"Mama? We are ready," said one of Syahnas' daughters who came out of the door, carrying a backpack, followed by her father and brother behind.

Syahnas turned to Shanaya, they embraced as a farewell. Syahnas' car started to leave the yard, leaving Shanaya alone in the old house. Shanaya looked at the big house in front of her. There is a kind of feeling that is now stuck in his heart, he doesn't even know what he is feeling. But every time he saw the grandfather's house, something was blocking and suffocating that swelled up.

Shanaya decides to walk around the house. Lonely. However, some residents are now starting to be seen crossing the front street. Some brought sacks of grass, firewood, or even harvested crops. Some greeted Shanaya friendly, not infrequently just stared at the house shaking their heads. Somehow.

Shanaya comes to the side of the house where there is a big banyan tree. She stopped and looked at the old tree. Images of the past flashed across his mind. Especially when he saw with his own eyes when his mother's corpse hung under a tree a year later after his father died.

The death of Shanaya's father is a heavy blow to her family. After the death of his father, Shanaya's and mother's life began to decline. Her mother had to work hard to complete her daughter's education, and right after Shanaya graduated from college, her mother caught up with her father.

There were no tears shed, Shanaya's sadness had long been buried deep. Her hard life has made her heart as strong as steel. He rarely showed sadness to others. In the silence that Shanaya was feeling, the girl heard the sound of a twig being trampled on by something. He suddenly looked at the plantation that was around the big house. The cornfield beside Shanaya was enough to make her visibility limited. But he immediately assumed that there were residents' pets in the fields.

Shanaya came closer, fingering the leaves of the corn tree which were mostly withered. It seemed that Abirama had left his garden neglected for a long time. Things are a little strange for Shanaya. Remember that his grandfather was very diligent in gardening and always made the plants he planted more important than himself. Now Shanaya has a new mission, taking care of Abirama's garden and intending to make it as fertile as when his grandfather was still alive.

From a distance, you can see the scarecrow belonging to the house next to Shanaya. Although the cornfield was quite high, the position of the scarecrow was higher, allowing Shanaya to see it. The position of the thing that was directly staring at Shanaya, made her shudder a little in horror, but she continued to stare at the terrible object with a sharp gaze.

"Maybe I should make something like that," Shanaya muttered.

                             ***

The howling of a wolf in the middle of the night is considered normal. Residents in the village make it a lullaby every night. The condition of the area which is still surrounded by forest makes it easy to find many wild animals now and then. But not all beasts will reveal themselves. Especially when it comes to residential areas. Wild animals and humans seem to understand each other's territory and rarely interfere with each other so far. Humans in this village also never casually enter the forest carelessly.

They rarely set foot in the surrounding forests. They are busy with their respective fields. After all, the location of the residential area in the middle, surrounded by fields of the surrounding residents makes the forest on the outermost side look far from the residents' houses. That's why people rarely go to the forest. Especially with the village legend that has been passed down from generation to generation. That there is a pack of werewolves living in the forest. They controlled the place, which made the villagers quite frightened.

The legend is not just a figment. Because the existence of their traces was seen by residents when they were in the fields. Not only the tracks but werewolf sightings have also been seen at night. Even though it happened decades ago, this fact finally confirmed the village legend which is sometimes considered a figment.

Without anyone noticing, a young man had just run from the forest. The body that was originally in the form of a large wolf, as big as an elephant, passed through the residential area slowly changing its form. His thick hair is now fading. Its massive body began to return to its human form. Simultaneously, the wolf's characteristic howl ended the phase of its transformation into a full human. He was wearing no clothes, only shorts and barefoot. Walk along the pedestrian path that residents usually pass. He looked up at the sky, staring at the full moon, which looked beautiful in color. The youth brushed the corners of his lips, a red stain filling his mouth.

He did not stop chewing while occasionally looking around. Even though it was past midnight, he still had to be vigilant. If there are villagers who catch him wandering around. But there was a strange sight not far in front of him. The scarecrow who used to stand tall in the middle of the field was now walking towards the house beside him. The young man then turned to the house that was being targeted by the creature.

"What does he want? It's not that mr. Abirama is dead! What else does he want!" he said curiously.

The initial intention to immediately leave the place faded. He was curious about what the creature was about to do. Finally, he turned and approached the house of Abirama who had just passed away.
