Chapter 24: Spoilers about life (2)

Vera was standing a few steps behind Sara, her arms crossed but her expression curious. Gamayun had taken a break just to talk with them, so the least she could do was listen.

«You haven't noticed yet, have you?» the bird from paradise said.

Vera shook her head, confused. What did she have to notice?

«Your energy,» Gamayun hinted, and Vera closed her eyes for a moment. She saw Sara's white aura and her own, black like the night. However, no matter how dark her presence could be, her energy was stable. She wasn't influenced by everything around her - not as much as usual. Not just that: she was feeling strong! Stronger than last time she had done a self-check.

«I could tell you who's going to win, but it's useless. You won't even place the bet,» Gamayun said then.

Win? Oh, she was referring to the football championship.

So, she did hear Vera's question from Paris. She just chose not to answer because, apparently, it was a waste of effort.

«No? How so?»

«You will have no interest in betting. I would like to tell you more, but it's better if you discover by living. It will be fun, with a lot of drama and action. I can't wait to see it with my own eyes!»

Strangely, Gamayun wasn't just proper and beautiful at that moment. Her voice, facial expression, and the light in her eyes reminded Vera - but also Sara - of an old lady loving gossip and searching for constant entertainment.

Gamayun knew everything but didn't want to spoil it. She wanted to see it while it happened, just like a show. It didn't matter that she was talking about people's lives.

«Don't worry!» she added when Vera's forehead wrinkled. «It will be a good thing. Isn't this what you wish for, now? A place to stay, where not to worry about daily needs. Someone else will take care of you. If you learn how to accept it, it will be nice.»

«If? Does it mean I won't learn?»

«I can't tell you! It would take away all the fun. Also, your man wouldn't be happy if I told you everything just yet. He will hate me because you won't be natural. It's a matter of the quality of the show. I can't tell you how it's going to end.»

While talking, she moved on the ancient bricks with her bird feet. If anyone in Milan, at that moment, looked up, they would have seen a huge bird jumping on the Duomo, flapping her wings from time to time and moving her tail. From that distance and angle, they wouldn't have noticed the human head. Likely.

And, even if they did, they would just assume it was their imagination. Humans were easy to fool because they would trick themselves at times.

Vera shook her head, returning to focus. She was talking with Gamayun, the messenger of the gods. She couldn't get distracted because of her golden tail.

«Oh, okay,» Vera chuckled, nervous. She had said her man would be happy if...

What man? She had no man in her life... But if Gamayun said she would have one, one day, there was no doubt.

However, it was something to ponder about another time. After solving the issue with Sara's stupid plan. She couldn't allow matters of the heart to hinder her work. Also, she was still convinced there was another way to interpret Gamayun's words.

Maybe, the man was just a superior who would set her free if she asked him to. Or let her have her vacation since she earned it!

«Now it's my turn,» said Sara. After listening - and losing track of the conversation - she gathered courage and asked. «Will my husband be rich and handsome?»

She also wanted to hear about her future man. Why could Vera have her spoiler? She was a dark witch, an evil creature. It just was natural that Gamayun would like Sara as well.

She was a white witch, a creature of light. She brought happiness to those around her, and everyone liked her. It would have been the same with the bird.

«What should I do to find him?» she added.

However, Gamayun ignored her. She continued to stare at Vera with that warm light, smiling motherly and jumping excitedly every time she thought about the adventures ahead. It had been centuries since the last time she had talked with someone she liked. And the girl in front of her would have provided entertainment for a while.

The story had just begun, and Gamayun loved a dramatic romance full of tension and events. Not to mention Vera still didn't know who her man was. Nor what kind of creature.

They were just a perfect couple, but the witch would have needed time to realise it.

«I can't wait, I can't wait,» the wise messenger said.

Humans had their televisions, but real life could be ten times better than any plot they came up with.

«Oh, it's time to go,» she said in the end. «Don't forget to have fun. And add drama. Always add drama, will you?»

This time, she wasn't talking with Vera. She was turned to Sara.

The woman's face had frozen in a hilarious expression. She didn't know how to interpret those words. However, she had to ponder about it. At the moment, she had a mission.

Unlike Vera, she wouldn't forget her role as an agent at any time.

«Not so fast,» Sara said.

Her tone and words made Vera sweat in panic. Who talks like that to Gamayun? That woman was crazy. Totally crazy.
