Chapter 3: Lost

I could only sit there and cry for so long before beginning to feel like a spoiled brat. Was I really sitting here, bawling my eyes out because the most powerful man in our pack wanted me as a bride?

Yes, yes I was.

The thought itself managed to get a couple more tears out of me before I wiped them away with my arm. Crying wasn't going to help. I was going to have to figure this out myself. Not only for me, but for Austin as well. Our love would prevail through this, I already knew that to be true. Perhaps he was scared now, but he won't be able to resist me forever. Our love is stronger than this.

"Don't, under any circumstances leave this floor," I mocked him under my breath as I made my escape. Perhaps he'd find me to be more work than I'm worth and just let me be on my way.

I marched myself back down to the first floor with my arms crossed over my chest. What was he going to do, put me in a cage for the rest of my life? No thank you! I was determined to find Austin and plan out our next move. The training room had to be here somewhere.

"Are you lost, pup?"

The voice, once again, sent shivers down my spine. If I wasn't so disgusted by this man, and the way he decided to run our pack, I would have probably succumbed to the mate pull.

"Yes, I am." I stood my ground, tilting my chin up as though I were challenging him. To my surprise, it didn't seem to anger him as I thought it would. Instead, a smile curved onto those perfect lips of his.

"Allow me to escort you, then. Where are we headed?"

Ugh, this was like a game to him!

"I'd like to go and see my BOYFRIEND please," I was teetering on the edge of snarkiness, and downright disrespectful, and it was enough to pull the Alpha's smile into a frown. This was only momentary, though. It shaped back up into an amused smile within moments.

"Are we going by human terms now, then? I prefer mate," His tongue ran over his lips, sizing me up as though I were his next meal. I couldn't believe how hardheaded he was being about this! Couldn't he see how much I despised his mere presence?

"I want to go see Austin. Now." My voice shook as I grew increasingly more impatient. The tears were threatening to come back now, and if he continued to toy with me I felt as though I might just break.

"The Beta Heir? He is busy training, and I will not have him interrupted. You can meet up with him later. Say, dinnertime?"

"What?"

"That is what you want, is it not? Well, why not have dinner with him? He is our future Beta, it isn't like I can keep the two of you on separate ends of the Earth."

"I.."

Well, now I just felt stupid. I was causing all of this fuss, just for him to arrange for us to have dinner together?

"I still love him." I wasn't going to back down, I wanted a fight. Dinner together wasn't enough, I didn't want my lover dangled in front of me, just barely out of reach. I wanted to be with him, and only him.

"And after this dinner, you will not." Came his simple response, eliciting a growl from the depths of my throat. "Easy, pup. I will have no hand in this. You will see for yourself at dinner."

I didn't want to do this anymore. He claims he's not going to have a role in changing my feelings towards Austin, but what else would make me drop our love? I had nothing else to say, nothing of substance. I could only wait for dinner and hope that whatever was in store for me would not break me further than this entire day already had.

His hand brushed against my cheek, leaving a trail of heat across my skin. Everywhere his hand touched, goosebumps would follow. I had to shove the primal urge to succumb to my mate to the back of my mind each time he showed my anything resembling affection.

"Don't touch me," I took a step back, rubbing my cheek as if wiping away the memory of his fingertips. Alpha Angelo only sighed, tousling his dark brown hair a bit in frustration.

"Maya will fetch you for dinner. Go play." He waved me off, turning his back to me. "Anywhere you go, she will find you."
