Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I woke up with a start the next morning and I was sweating like I did after every dream of my past memories. I spent the time sleeping analyzing everything that happened and what I could have done to make things better but I never woke up feeling satisfied like I had done everything possible to make it better. I looked at my phone and it was 4:20 so I decided to look decent today so I curled my hair for fun because it was not something that happened often, I usually slept to long to have time to do much with it except brush it out and throw it in a pony tail. Putting a little makeup on and some tight jeans and a baggy sweater I felt ready to handle the day and the obstacles ahead, I looked at the clock and it was 6:59. The bell was going to ring in a minute. I walked back to my cabin and just as I crouched to put my stuff in my bag the bell rang. My cabin mates woke up and I sat down and waited for half an hour. At 7:30 I walked outside with my converses on and I saw Chris on the left side of the prayer circle. My friends and I happily chatted until we were allowed to go and eat. I could feel my stomach rumbling from the small bites of food I had taken last night. I avoided eye contact with Chris while maintaining a carefree composure so no one would ask if I was okay, there was just to much that I would have had to unpack and I did not think I was ready for that.

We ate french toast and I scarfed it down as fast as I could. Saying that I was trying to get through the end of the week as fast as I could would have been an understatement.

The breakfast was done and we listened to who has to do chores. If you don't have chores like I don't then you have to clean your cabin with your other cabin mates. We a;; walked into Jubilee with a smile and went to our cabin together, while starting making our beds and cleaning up. We laughed the whole time but they wouldn't stop annoying me with questions about Chris. What exactly happened last year and we made a game plan to avoid him at all times.

I had to clean one way or another and if I had to spend one more minute thinking about Chris I would puke. We all laughed and walked out of Jubilee just as the bell symbolized that break time was over and we had to get to Tony's palace.

When we walked into Tony's place laughing everyone looked at us. Looking around I caught Glen looking at me again so I smiled at him and sat down with my friends. I could not quite place it but I felt like I had seen him before. The team member put her hand up and we all went silent. She talked for an hour and then she yelled.

"Game time." We all screamed and ran back to our dorms to change. I threw on shorts and a T-shirt. I also put bug spray on and sunscreen because I could hear my mothers voice in the back of my head saying I made you pack these for a reason so that you would feel the most comfortable playing not for you to not use them. I ran out of the dorms and into Chris. He always knew how to pop in at the best times. As soon as I collided into him he turned around and grabbed me so I wouldn't fall. I smiled gratefully when Rowan came up instantly and I had a way out. We talked for the rest of the time we had till game time. After a while the team members called us over and we had to split into two groups. One of the groups would hide in the trees and the other had to find them. I loved the forest because it was like a second home to me. I loved the trees and their leaves that changed color in the fall. I of course was part of the group that had to hide. They had split the boys and the girls. Now the boys had to chase after us girls. I ran into the trees with my friends and we scoured the forest for the best hiding spot. I soon saw a huge tree with so many leaves so I had a thought. If you could just climb the tree then no one could find you. I carefully climbed up the tree and sat down on a high branch.

After a while the bell rang and the boys came to find the girls. I watched as the boys found girl after girl on the ground but no boy looked up and saw me. Soon I saw Chris come into view with his stupid little grin.

"Hey Jared, apparently there is one girl left that we have to find or else we lose." Chris said to the boy I had yet to lay my eyes on yet this week.

"And who would that be" Jared said with a look suggesting that he was ready to win no matter what. Then my name rang out as Chris said it.

"Chloe McLaughlin still has to be found. She is the last survivor in the Hunger games." I stifled a giggle as he said that. "We have five more minutes to find her. We can't lose" I felt so bad for him but I also wanted to know what the boys were going to do if they lost.

"Well then I guess we should find the one that got away" Jared replied

"You are hilarious. I understand what I did was terrible but I screwed up and it looks like I wont be given a second chance. No way out of this one"

"Have you tried actually talking to her instead of just assuming she still has a huge crush on you. What you did was pretty shitty she probably is just scared that you will do it all over again"

"Yeah I was thinking about that all night last night but every time I run into her one of her friends comes and sweeps her away. I spent the entire year thinking about my actions and what I was going to do to make it up to her and since we have both been here I have done nothing but hide"

"Well then you better find her and tell her this since her friends are long gone"

"Yeah lets split up and go"

All the boys spread out and even though I knew what I heard it still did not change the fact of what Chris did. I understand that sometimes you make a mistake but that was a pretty big one. I was just to scared to go back and get hurt again so I put my headphones on and listened to my favorite song She's in my head by Union J to erase the events out of my head. I watched as the boys looked in every bush and soon enough the bell rang signaling that I had won. All the boys groaned and I hopped out of the tree right in front of them and skipped out into the clearing and was soon swarmed by all the girls. I had leaves and twigs in my hair but I was smiling. The girls went and got ready for supper as the boys took there punishment. I changed into yoga pants and a baggy sweater. As I packed up my things for the night my eyes caught my dress that was now not going to be worn. The dance was in three days and I was content on spending it reading a book in my room. I sighed and walked to the mess hall. Soon as all the girls had there food the boys walked in wearing dresses and they started to sing at the top of there lungs. They were so bad that I almost felt bad for them but if I hadn't won that would be the girls up there making a fool of themselves. The boys finished and we all ate. I was so happy that I had made some great friends easily on the first day. I do not know what I would have done with a different friend group.
