Chapter 35: Aura of Pride
Claude lifted the ambushers with wind magic and took them towards the now burning manors direction.
When he finally reached the place he flinched for a moment. He saw Eren crying.
You might think it is nothing much for a 9 year old kid like him to cry but the reality was different.
Claude has fought against Eren countless times. Sometimes the fight was small like the morning fight but sometimes the fight was much more fierce.
Their most fierce fight till yet ended after 7 hours. At that time both Claude and Eren suffered injuries. Claude suffered cuts and bruises all over his body but Eren's case was worse. His left hand and right leg got broken, his ribs had cracks and he was bleeding heavily but not once had Claude seen him cry. The soldiers went so far as to name him as an iron willed bull.
That Eren was in front of him now. Who had tears flowing through his eyes like a broken dam. He had a face of rage like Claude but it was overwhelmed by the sad expression.
Claude felt a cold sweat running down his face. He standed silently for a few seconds not wanting to accept what was in his mind.
He slowly walked towards the kneeling Eren who was being supported by a crying Amber. What he saw opened a void in his heart. His impenetrable mental fortitude crumbled in an instant.
He saw a completely burned unrecognisable body of a certain someone. He recognised that certain someone from her half burned gown which she used to wear most of the time when checking on her two sons. The burned body was that of Ellen.
Claude quickly used mana eyes and looked towards her. Ellen's once healthy light pink core was slowly but steadily turning into a grey core. Almost half of her core was already turned into grey.
Seeing a hope, Claude went towards her and used his tier 1 healing spell.
" Heal "
What he saw left him dreaded. Her whole body was burned and was in pain and agony. If it was a normal person that person would already be dead but one-way or the other Ellen was still holding onto life.
Claude casted healing spells multiple times but nothing was working. Tears started to flow from his eyes but he still kept casting healing spell. His mana was depleted when he asked Amber :-
" What happened to her !?"
Seeing the anger and pain in his voice Amber answered :-
" The fire which was burning the house was not an ordinary fire. It was fuelled and started by mana fuel. This fuel is strong fuel which keeps on burning for a few weeks if keep adding more combustible objects—" Before she can continue Claude shouted and ordered :-
" I don't need a lesson, I want to know what caused this !?"
" Mana fuel is highly combustible and that's why not even a beast comes near them in the fear of being burned alive. You can already guess what might happen to a human….." She concluded when she saw Claude's face filled with hatred.
" Claude, is that you….?" A hoarse voice was heard.
It was the voice of Ellen. Her beautiful voice was completely burned alongside her vocal cord.
" Yes, it's me." Claude said, holding her black burned hand.
" I don't have time, that's why let me tell you something. I know how your relation with Eren is but please stay by Eren's side. He is not mentally strong like you. In future he will need you the most. At that time please stay by Eren's side and support him..." she continued in her hoarse voice.
" I don't have much to say to you. You are smart enough to know that I didn't like you much at first but somehow, at the end I was captivated by you. You made me feel like I had another son and filled my short life with happiness. Just don't seek revenge for my death because I know you surely will..."
" I want you to end my pain. Amber is too weak willed while Eren will regret it his whole life. You are the only one I can ask this from. Won't you end the pain of this ' stupid lord mother ' of yours….." She seemed to chuckle at the last sentence but due her hoarse voice it was not understandable.
" …...Yes." Claude had many things to say but currently his mind was facing such a huge emotional turmoil that he was only able to say yes. His face was that of a crying child but the emotions on his face were not something a child should ever face.
" You were always mine even though I didn't give birth to you my son….." That was her last sentence before Claude directly attacked her mana with his mana causing a severe mana core damage and ending her.
Eren was still crying loudly like a child while Amber was barely holding back her tears to support Eren.
Claude had his face covered in shadows nobody knew what face he was making right now. But he was currently remembering all the moments he had with Ellen.
Her surprise over his magic. Her pinching his little nose until it turned red. She sometimes spoils him by feeding him with her own hands. Her punching the shit out of the glasses man when he said those cruel things to Claude.
" ....My mother... " Amber heard a low muttering voice from Claude.
" She was my mother..." Amber heard the muttering once again, this time a bit clear.
Claude stood up and walked towards the two men who ambushed his house. Even though they have come out of paralysis they were currently so weak that even crawling was a heavy task to them.
" She was my mother. HOW DARE YOU INFERIOR CREATURES KILL HER !!!?" Claude said while the air around him became denser.
" She accepted me even though she knew I might take her son's position. She gave me the same amount of love she gave my step brother. And here you are killing her for petty humiliation !!?" Claude said while his face distorted with rage and anger. Currently he was not even looking at them like they were humans, it seemed like they were insects who can only be crushed under his shoes. This sends chills down their spine.
" My whole life I had nothing. My father was not present. My mother didn't want to even accept me as her son...." Claude said looking at the sky while tears kept pouring from his eyes along with a sad smile. This caused Amber's heart to ache like thousand needles were piercing her entire being.
" .... because of that I always had to act like an adult and I knew even if I act like a child no one will care. She was one of the only people I was proudly able to call my family. She was the closest thing to mother I ever had..." Claude said while looking down again. Shadows covering his face.
" .... AND YOU TOOK HER AWAY FROM ME !!!?" Claude shouted looking at them with his pain filled eyes.
When he said the last sentence his eyes emitted a strong, dense blue energy. And a doom appeared around him. Within the doom the colours changed from blue colour to colourless black and white. It was like the doom was blinking. The colour change spread from his eyes to the surroundings like an echo.
The men felt an inner instinct to kneel before him. They didn't understand it but for them Claude seemed like the world's strongest, holiest and majestic being. In front of Claude's supremacy they felt like insects or slaves to be precise who should do whatever Claude was telling them.
This was Claude's own personal Aura created from his truest desires. This was the Aura of Pride.
