Chapter 11: Tsunade Senju
A month earlier.
Third hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi was looking at the files of the students graduating this year. As a kage he was responsible for the team selection of the new genins.
He already had the idea who was going to pass the upcoming test.
"Hmm... This year sure is going to be difficult to assign team members and their teachers. Most of the clan heirs are in this batch. This means I have to assign them carefully." Hiruzen thought deeply as he read each students detailed information.
These files contained every little bit of info that the chunin teachers and anbu had secretly collected. He was the leader of a shinobi village after all.
Amatsu Hyuga
Main family member, Parents died in kyubi attack.
Estimated Strength: Below special jonin, Able to fight chunin and win
Speciality: Gentle fist, Seen practicing C ranked Earth and Fire nature ninjutsu. Able to perform them flawlessly.
As he read about the hyuga genius he was not surprised. With the amount of bragging the Hyuga clan members did about him and Hinata, all the villagers knew about them.
Sasuke Uchiha
Last surviving member of Uchiha in Konoha.
Estimated strength: Similar to Amatsu
Specialty: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu and Taijutsu
Warning: Revenge driven, loyalty towards village is unknown
"This is going to be troublesome. Hmm, maybe Kakashi can help him. If not..."
Hiruzen continued to read all the files carefully. After reading them he began to think of what jonin teacher he was going to assign to them.
"Amatsu and Sasuke are clearly way above average genin. If Kakashi is going to look after Sasuke and his team mates, there is no one suitable to teach Amatsu. Jiraiya will not agree to teach after Minato's death."
Suddenly something clicked in his mind.
"Yes, why didn't I think of her?" Hiruzen smiled. "It seems it is time for you to return to village, Tsunade. Your vacation is over."
Tsunade Senju was the last living member of Senju clan. She was also the grand daughter of Hashirama Senju and Mito Uzumaki. On top of this, she was also his student and former team member of Jiraiya and Orochimaru.
She had withdrawn herself from shinobi business and drown herself in gambling and medical research after her only brother's death in second shinobi war. If not for an emergency situation, she would often roam around the land of fire gambling or doing some research.
Last time she returned was during the 3rd shinobi war. She left as soon as the war ended.
Hiruzen wanted Tsunade now for two reasons. He was already getting very old and weaker as time passed. He wanted her to be his successor. He knew Jiraiya wouldn't agree to be the hokage and there was no other suitable candidate. He had thought of Kakashi but he was neither strong as the sanins or had enough fame and reputation to become a hokage candidate.
Which only left Tsunade as the viable option. Her fame as a sanin and one of the best if not the best medical ninja, her strength along with her lineage was perfect for hokage. Very few would oppose her.
(A/N: Unlike canon, she was not suffering from blood related phobia. After her brother's death, she was left alone as the last Senju. She decided her clan had given Konoha enough sacrifices. She left after the war with Shizune, her apprentice.
She continued her medical research outside while gambling. And unlike canon she was more powerful. She had developed a number of new techniques and improved her original technique. Also she learned slug sage mode. As she met the requirements to learn perfect sage mode unlike Orochimaru.
She is a lot stronger than Orochimaru and Jiraiya combined. This is due to her fully inheriting both Senju and Uzumaki clan talents. Although she didn't have Wood style, she had Senju's potent chakra.)
Without delaying any further, he ordered his anbu to give her his message.

When the anbu found her in her secret lab doing some experiments on some lizard like animals. They informed her of hokage's message.
Tsunade was not pleased with the message. She was quietly researching a very important matter, but now she had to return to her village.
She and Shizune, later packed their things and started their journey towards Konoha.

Two weeks before
Tsunade was standing in front of the third hokage with an annoyed mood.
"What is it, old man? Why did you ordered me to return? Is another war going to start soon?" Tsunade asked him. "If you don't give me any good reason I am leaving immediately."
"Why are you so eager to leave? This is your village after all." Hiruen replied with a smile. He lit his smoking pipe with fire and began to smoke.
"As for my reason, I want you to become the teacher of a genin team."
"What? You called me back to become a teacher of some brats? Are you becoming senile in old age?" Tsunade shouted. She looked at him as if he was mad.
Tsunade had never become a sensei of a genin team till now. Except for Shizune, she hadn't taught anyone before.
"Now now Tsunade, it is not that difficult. Also it is time you have your own team and guide them. And don't even think about running away this time." Hiruzen said.
"How about this, if you agree, I will clear all your gambling debts and even return the chief position of the hospital." Hiruzen offered.
Tsunade's mood instantly soared upon hearing his proposal. Just clearing her debts alone had her convinced to stay.
Tsunade was a compulsive gambler, who had the unfortunate disadvantage of having terrible luck. As a result, she had been elevated to a comical status as "The Legendary Sucker" because of the gross profits others had made off of her misfortune and gambling addiction.
And she had an large amount of debt for this vice of her.
Poor Hiruzen didn't know he had just made the worst decision for Konoha's finance. By the time he would be aware of this, it would be too late to back out.
"Ok I will do it." Tsunade immediately agreed.
Her thoughts were 'Just teaching three little genins. What can possibly be difficult about this.'
"So tell me about my future students."
