Chapter 2: You're still around

It was the last day of school. The lights were off in the classroom. The students were watching a movie. A knock on the door interrupted it. The teacher opened the door to reveal a werewolf. The two chatted for a moment before the teacher turned back into the classroom. She approached Ein's desk.

"Someone at the door wants your help with decorations." The teacher whispered to him.

Ein looked up at the door to see the supposed Beta of the school. They never had the best relationship, but Ein knew why. It was solely because he was the lowest rank amongst werewolves. The Omega. And it was stated that being the Omega means you are weak and a humiliation to the pack, if not a disgrace to the werewolf race.

Ein got up and slowly headed to the door. He closed it behind him. Facing the other werewolf, the Beta gave Ein a grin. It wasn't a pleasant grin, though. It was a grin with malicious intentions behind it. The Beta gave Ein a harsh push, making Ein fall to the ground. The werewolf snickered at how foolish the Omega had made himself look. Ein got up, one limb at a time. He frowned as he straighten his uniform. They uttered no words as they made their course to the auditorium. Inside, there were a lot of green and white decorations scattered across the floor and onto the stage. The colours of the school. There were ribbons and bows and garlands, both of green and white. A huge sign stating 'O'khasis Prep' was hanging on top of the stage. Ein did not want to get involved in the chaos.

"Hey, Ein," The other Beta had greeted him.

Ein looked at him with a tired face. "Hi." He cut it short.

"We need your help since... well..." the Beta didn't want to finish his sentence.

"I'm the Omega. Yes. What is it?" Ein finished it for him in a peeved tone. He knew what he was going to ask, but it was still going to be just as annoying.

"Yeah... we don't want the graduates to do work since it's their last day and all. So, we wanted you to help us!"

Ein gave out a sharp exhale. He would not enjoy this. He practically promised himself. Despite his mood, he went straight to work. After an hour, the assembly hall was decorated. It was decorated nicely. Deep down, Ein was proud of his work, but he would never admit that to anybody, even himself.

Soon, the chairs were filled with parents, relatives, and other students. Humans, meif'was, and werewolves. The graduation ceremony was going to begin promptly. Ein took a seat at the back row so he wouldn't trouble anyone with his presence. He had always assumed his existence was a burden or a nuisance. He had consistently been in his father's way. And his father made clear that the werewolf knew that. If Ein was a bother to his father, surely he was a bother to everyone else as well.

Ein didn't understand why the graduation ceremony wasn't taking place after school, like all the other schools. Every school has to have something unique to them, Ein guessed. The speeches were long and having a hundred students go up one at a time was also long, if not a waste of time. Ein closed his eyes midway through. He didn't want to continue listening. The ceremony, to put it short, was boring to the werewolf. He thought that staring at a white wall was more entertaining than the ceremony. It seemed to him that everyone wanted to say a little something about the school, but it kept dragging on. Ein found the little songs irritating. There was nothing more annoying than having to listen to people sing sad songs about memories, in his opinion.

After a few hours, the auditorium was empty, except for Ein and the first Beta.

"Since it's the end of the school year in like 15 minutes, I'm just gonna chill here, but you take everything down." The Beta ordered the Omega. At least no one would get in his way. Ein quickly got to work, but it wouldn't be long before a comment was made.

"Y'know, I'm surprised you're still around." The Beta said, looking up from his phone.

"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Ein stopped what he was doing. This conversation took aback the teacher supervising the room. She didn't want to get involved for fear of getting physically hurt. After all, she was a human. And she knew werewolves were much stronger than she was.

"I mean, don't you think you should just kill yourself? I mean..." The Beta knew what he wanted to explain. He thought that if he was like Ein the Omega, he would want to end his life.

Ein took it as an insult. How dare the Beta, the one that's supposed to be a leader to the pack under the Alpha, say that to him. He knew nothing of Ein. The Omega couldn't control how he turned out. Enraged, Ein threw himself at the Beta, knocking them both to the ground. The teacher ran out of the auditorium. Ein punched the Beta in the face. He frowned at the thoughts flowing through his head. Maybe he wasn't good enough for the world. Nobody wanted him around, not even the one that should want him around. Ein's jaw was clenched together. He held a frown on his face. His blood was boiling with anger and rage. Anger and rage because of the Beta, because of the surrounding people, because of his father. Because of himself. Ein kept punching. Left. Right. Left. Right repeatedly until the Beta couldn't defend himself anymore. Breathing loudly and deeply, Ein got off of the werewolf. He unclenched his fists, taking deep breaths to calm himself down. The Beta would surely have a black eye tomorrow.

"Both of you, to my office!" The principal yelled. The werewolf on the ground groaned in response.

A few teachers came to his aid as Ein made his way past them to the principal's office. He sat down in one chair facing the desk. He was slumped over on the chair.

The principal followed behind him and helped the Beta into the other seat. "Ein, right?" The principal asked, taking a seat on the other side of the desk. Ein stared at the man before him. He was in no mood to respond. "This isn't the first time you've gotten into a fight like this!" the man told the werewolf. "I have no choice but to ask you to not come back to this school next year." The principal sympathized with the Omega. He knew it was hard to be that rank. But he didn't know just how hard it really was. "Go grab the rest of the stuff in your locker as I call your dad to come to pick you up," Ein said nothing as he got up. Making his way to his locker, he looked down. He didn't care that he got in the fight, or that he got expelled. All he cared about was how his father would react. Being expelled from school was the worst thing he's done so far and he hadn't even done it on purpose. Ein's heart raced. He started taking deep breaths. His hands were sweating.

Ein came back to the principal's office. He was white as a ghost and his heart was pounding in his ears. A few minutes later, his father walked in.

"Let's go." His father ordered him.

Ein stood up and quietly followed his father to the car. The ride home was silent. There wasn't even the sound of the radio. His father looked mad. Zack didn't acknowledge his son or his behaviour.

Arriving at the house, a sting was felt on Ein's face.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Ein's father yelled at him. The werewolf could not reply. He was choked up in his tears. He stood up and ran to his room, slamming the door on his way in. He took his backpack off his shoulders and laid on his bed. He cried into his pillow. This wasn't the first time he had gotten hit, and he has had it much worse than a few slaps in the face. This time, it was different. Perhaps the feeling of being a disappointment caught up to him. Maybe the thought of his father hating him was too much to bare. Ein had many thoughts in his head. He was trying to figure out why this time he broke down into tears, but he couldn't find a reason that would explain everything.

Zack flinched. He didn't know if it was because of the loud bang of the door or the way he had treated his son. The entrance room of the house spun. His legs became weak. His arms became numb and his chest hurt. Zack grabbed onto the nearest wall to keep himself up. The emotions he was feeling were overwhelming him. The werewolf made his way to the living room and sat on the sofa before his legs gave out. He gave out a deep sigh. He tried to calm his emotions down. Zack doesn't want his son to get hurt. He was afraid of something bad happening to his son. After what happened to his wife and of his child's mother, he could never go through that again with someone he loved so much. The person he loved the most. If he loved him that much, why was he treating him this way?
