Chapter 24: Convincing the Bear-22

WILL'S POV•

"Anything for you two." Seb smirked and blew a kiss towards me without placing it in his hand.

I looked at him in bewilderment, Seb just snickered at the reaction and dramatically strutted out of the makeshift camp.

I look back to Maria seeing her sitting up and staring at me.

"Am I interrupting something?" She asked looking in amusement.

"W-what? No!" I shook my head rapidly the thought of disgust on my mind.

Maria laughed and looked at me, getting up and heading over to a pile of leaves.

"Don't think to much about it, I found out last night he is quite the jokester." She said grabbing a couple leaves, heading towards me.

"Here, come here." She mused grabbing my hand gently.

My heart skipped a beat as the spouse bracelet warmed.

She brought me to her hoard of pelts.

"Sit." She said pointing down, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

I obeyed sitting as she began unwrapping the vines the leaves on my chest falling loosely to the ground she knelt down in-front of me.

She bit her lip as she looked at the two long cuts, my heart dropped a bit.

Yet another soon to be scar that makes me unworthy to be her male. I looked away tears beckoned at my eyes but I refused them.

I heard her sigh and I looked down at her, her eyes snapped to mine, a sad expression planted on her her face.

MARIA'S POV•

I just knew it had to hurt, and he still had the strength to run to my aid when Seb was fighting Roy.

It broke my heart that he had to go through so much pain, for that I felt guilty.

His dark eyes stared into mine a slight pink to his cheeks, we barely knew each other. Yet… He felt so strongly about me, I brought my hand to his cheek.

He flinched at it but soon leaned into the touch, I tilted my head and went to speak.

"I'm sorry this happened… Thank you for protecting me."

His eyes widened and then quickly looked away. Shame crossed his features as he watched the tree line.

"Maria… I didn't get there in time, I… it wasn't me who protected you, it was Seb…"

I grabbed his face and turned it gently so he would look at me, he looked at me in shock as I took a breath.

"But you comforted me, stood in front shielding me. Don't forget that you saved me from that creep in the village."

His lips separated in slight shock as he face turned a slight shade of red.

"Will, you mean so much to me. Remember that, you will always be my saver." I smiled as he processed what I was saying, my face heated up and I let go of his cheeks.

"I-I uh… I-erm you… uh." I smiled at his stuttering.

"I…" he sighed I looked down at his wounds and put the fresh leaf onto it.

"Maria." He called my name I looked up and met his gaze.

"You… i-inspire me to be better, sure we've only know each other but just a while… I feel like with you by my side I can do anything…" he said cupping my cheek to my surprise, my face felt hot as I looked him in the eyes.

They were dark and gentle almost like warm coals of the fire, comforting and sweet…

I found myself being drawn to them as I looked up at him.

Our faces inched closer with out control, my heart beat rapidly as I looked at his lips then back to his eyes.

(What am I doing?) was the last thought before my mind buzzed, I heard a cough behind us and jumped about three feet off the ground.

I looked behind us and Seb was there with some sort of large beast over his shoulder.

"I-I umm! It's not what it looks like!" I said waving my hands, my face red as a tomato.

Seb's eyes gleamed in amusement as he set the beast down and began dressing it.

"Well if I would have known you two were up to something I would have given you two a bit more time… pardon me." He said a with a mischievous smile on his face.

"What! No, no, no I-I was just changing his b-bandages!" I said adverting my gaze turning to Will whose face was equally red.

"R-right Will?"

Will looked at me with his mouth hung open, he slapped his cheeks and shook his head.

"Y-yeah, just changing bandages." He repeated adverting his gaze to the ground.

"That's a awful lot of stuttering for just changing bandages." Seb's thoughtful remark reply as I heard him laugh.

I looked at Will for help but he just silently looked at the ground his face reddened with embarrassment.

"I-… Uh erm I-…" I looked around and looked at the dead beast, before turning around.

Making a subject change was my best bet and I knew it.

I fiddled with wrapping leaves around Wills wounds, as I began to ask a question.

"W-what's it like being a Tiger beast?"

Awkward silence ensued, I mentally scream at myself for not coming up with a better question.

It was kinda like asking what's it like constantly breath everyday?

"…Do you mean what's it like to live in a Tiger Tribe or?" He paused and thought a bit.

"Because uh, it's kinda like being any other Beast Man I guess? I don't know, I haven't ever lived as something else. Good subject change though."

"Well I would hope you haven't lived as anything else." I added to his statement ignoring Seb last remark.

"That would be quite the predicament, no?"

He laughed softly.

I cleared my throat and continued tending to Will's wounds.

When I got done I stood up and looked at my work, Will just awkwardly sat there.

"Umm…" he looked as if he wanted to say something but kept silent.

"Hm? What is it?" I asked as I watched him.

"Well…can we-"

"Go to sleep? No it's day time." Seb cut in with his usual sarcastic tone.

"What? No!" Will said his face slightly a tint of pink which I found cute.

"I was going to ask if we can move today, Roy said their were some Raven Villages up ahead!" Will said looking at Seb who was now roasting the meat over the fire.

I of course didn't want to move until Will's wounds were more stable, my heart beat anxiously as I looked towards Will.

"But, Will your wounds…." I said in a defeated tone.

"Maria I'll be fine I swear, it's just that I don't want you to have to sleep outside more than you have to." Will said looking me in the eyes with a expression that made my heart skip.

"Sorry, Will but I'll have to agree with the Little Doe on this one." My breath hitched in my throat as I looked back at Seb, again with the 'Little Doe' it was almost like their was no escape from the name…

A Doe surrounds herself in beauty, and grace but runs at the slightest hint of danger.

In that scenario, I don't want to be a Doe. I want to be a mother bear, someone who will protect those she cares about with all her soul.

I sighed listening to what Seb was saying.

"In any case I think you should be stable by tomorrow, so why don't we rest today and take off tomorrow? I know how to get to the Tribe." Seb said taking off some meat off the fire.

Will sat and thought for a bit, I looked between the two.

"I'm fine with waiting." I said shrugging as took a seat off my hoard of pelts beside Will.

Will glanced at me and sighed heavily, running his hand through his short dark hair.

"Fine…"
